-This week is going to be crazy and stressful, so let’s let Beyonce ease us into it with her glorious British Vogue spread, mm-kay? This is the first time she’s given an actual interview in years.

-It’s the day before the election and celebrities are pulling out the big guns. Taylor Swift posted a video to urge fans to vote, while Beyonce has endorsed Biden/Harris, adding the caption “come thru Texas,” and Michael Keaton posted another video for Pennsylvania.

-There’s been a bunch of sitcom reunions too, with the New Girl cast turning the theme song into a voting PSA, and the Community cast shooting an in-character short.

Dave Chappelle will host the first episode of Saturday Night Live after the presidential election — just like last time.

-Speaking of SNL, people really didn’t like it when this weekend’s host John Mulaney said in his monologue that “nothing much will change” if Biden beats Trump.

Johnny Depp lost his UK libel case against the publisher of The Sun over an article which called him a ‘wife beater’ – something the actor denies. The judge ruled the Sun has shown that “what they published in the meaning … was substantially true.”

Kendall Jenner threw a Halloween-themed birthday party amid the pandemic, and the internet is out for blood.

-Most celebs seemed to keep it lowkey this Halloween — but still showed off their costumes on social.

Megan Fox took to Instagram to call out ex Brian Austin Green for posting photos that make her seem like she’s “an absent mother.”

Joshua Jackson spotted a guy walking down the street wearing his Mighty Ducks character’s jersey and was totally cool about it.

Cardi B has canceled her divorce filing from Offset.

-On the other end of the spectrum, Julianne Hough has filed for divorce from Brooks Laich 6 months after they separated, despite a brief reconciliation.

Jamie Lynn Spears has withdrawn her petition to become Britney Spears’ trustee.

-We learned this weekend that Prince William secretly battled coronavirus in April, even struggling to breathe—but kept his ordeal a secret because he didn’t wish to alarm the public. Which makes his decision to recently appear in public with his grandmother maskless even more strange.

-It’s November, which means Taylor Swift can legally re-record her old albums now.

-Bless Mariah Carey for always ushering in the holiday season with a fun video.

Stephen Colbert recited a passage about hope from memory. I love this nerd!

Ray Fisher once again called out Joss Whedon and Warner Bros, this time about racism.

John Boyega seems to be at peace with where things landed with Disney following his criticism, which he hopes will make it easier for the other actors. “It was a very honest, a very transparent conversation…They gave me a chance also to explain what my experience was like. I’d hope that me being so open with my career, at this stage, would help the next man, the guy that wants to be the assistant DOP, the guy that wants to be a producer.”

-I don’t have much interest in watching Kate Mara play a woman who seduces a high school student, but the reviews for The Teacher are good.

-My goodness, I want to live inside this Bridgerton trailer. It’s the first major show from Shonda Rhimes for Netflix, and it drops at xmas.

Megan Thee Stallion Says Tory Lanez Shot Her

-On a new IG live, Megan Thee Stallion confirmed that Tory Lanez shot her. “You shot me. And you got your publicists and your people going to these blogs and lying and shit. Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you dragging it.”

-Meanwhile, JoJo removed Lanez from the upcoming deluxe edition of her album Good to Know.

Lori Loughlin was sentenced today to two months of prison, two years of supervised release, 100 hours of community service and a $150,000 fine. Her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was sentenced to five months in prison, two years of supervised release, 250 hours of community service and a $250,000 fine.

-Congrats to Rachel McAdams, who is pregnant with her second child.

-The first reviews for Tenet are very positive (though critics keep using words like “confounding” and “head-scratching”). I like this piece from a critic on the struggles of covering a movie that’s trying to get people back in theaters in the U.S. during a pandemic when health experts say it’s the last place to be.

BTS has made history with their new video “Dynamite,” which dropped at midnight and surpassed 10 million views on Youtube in just 20 minutes.

-Golden State Killer James DeAngelo sentenced to life in prison. I just finished HBO’s documentary series I’ll Be Gone in the Dark and I wish Michelle McNamara was alive to see this day. Her widow, Patton Oswalt, tweeted “The insect gets none of my headspace today. I’m thinking of the victims, and the survivors, and the witnesses and crusaders and investigators. And of course Michelle. Go forward in peace, all of you.”

-The X-Files cast reunited for a charity music video and it’s delightful how many one-off guest stars they pulled in.

Aniston posted a cute video of getting her butt handed to her at pool by Courteney Cox.

Jake Johnson says there’s a chance of a New Girl reunion and I’m here for it.

-Cuties, a Sundance favourite that is now on Netflix, is from a French Senegalese Black woman who is pulls from her own experiences as an immigrant and condemns the hyper-sexualization of preadolescent girls. However, the way Netflix marketed the movie (with a risqué poster and description) has led to calls for a boycott of the film. Netflix has since apologized, and people like Tessa Thompson are standing up for the movie, but it looks like the damage is done.

Taylor Swift started a frenzy at a multitude of indie record stores across America when shipments of signed Folklore CDs “just showed up” on their doorsteps. “Phones rang off the hook in every store. Folks took road trips to try to get one.”

-WarnerMedia has reportedly launched an investigation into the production of Justice League based on Ray Fisher‘s allegations of misconduct against Joss Whedon.

Pharrell Williams dropped a new video for “Entrepreneur ft. Jay Z”. That line where Jay criticizes Black Twitter can go though.

-Also, Jay Z was spotted hanging out with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in the Hamptons yesterday.

Netflix has cancelled The Society and I’m Not Ok With This due to covid-related issues.

Chi Chi DeVayne, who was a fan favorite on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Drag Race All Stars, has died. The performer was recently hospitalized for the second time in as many months after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

-I like this piece on how cancel culture, for lack of a better term, is good. I think there increasingly has to be distinctions made between celebrities who face consequences for doing and saying bad things, and normal people who get fired for viral videos, but when it comes to Hollywood, yeah I think this take is about right.

-Speaking of good takes, I like this one about what the Ana de Armas Updates account tells us about modern fandom.

Diane Lane and Kevin Costner reunite for the Let Him Go trailer, playing a couple trying to get their grandson away from his abusive stepdad. Lesley Manville steals this trailer.

Jada Pinkett Smith Is Ready for “Healing”

-It’s been a busy week for Jada Pinkett Smith. First she called out Youtuber Shane Dawson for talking about masturbating to a poster of Willow Smith when she was 11. And now she’s once again denying those long-standing rumours of an open marriage after singer August Alsina gave an interview in which he seemed to confirm he’d had an affair with her — with Will Smith‘s blessing. Alsina said: “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation … due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership they’ve spoken on several times…He gave me his blessing.. And I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her, I devoted myself to it…I just always stayed silent because I never want to be the person that causes confusion, I love these people. I have literally never been in love in that kind of way so much so that being intertwined in that way, walking away from it butchered me.” The age difference (she was in her 40s and he was 21 when this rumoured relationship allegedly started), plus the fact that she’s previously said she mentored him, is giving people pause.

-Today, Jada seemed to imply that she’ll be talking about this on Red Table Talk, tweeting “There’s some healing that needs to happen…so I’m bringing myself to The Red Table.”

Christina Ricci was granted an emergency protective order against her husband, film producer James Heerdegen.

-According to court documents filed for her lawsuit against the Mail, Meghan Markle felt “unprotected by the Institution [the royal family], and prohibited from defending herself” during her pregnancy with Archie.

Brie Larson filmed a socially distanced episode of Hot Ones.

-This is a good look at CBC Gem, the best streaming service in Canada that no one seems to know about. It’s free and has shows like Normal People, Pen15 and Freaks and Geeks.

-A bunch of people in the industry — both supporters and detractors of Mel Gibsontalk to Variety about how his career in Hollywood seems to survive.

-Justice League’s Ray Fisher expanded on his thoughts on Joss Whedon, tweeting “Joss Wheadon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.” This is a very good recap of all the Justice League bts drama, including reports that Gal Gadot refused to film a scene Joss wrote where The Flash falls into her boobs. It also touches on other problematic Joss stories, like Charisma Carpenter saying he fired her from Angel for getting pregnant, and his ex-wife accusing him of using her as a “shield” so no one would question his feminism or relationship with women.

Khloé Kardashian is potentially back together with Tristan Thompson.

Ricky Gervais, Ramy Youssef, Kenan Thompson, Kumail Nanjiani and Dan Levy are featured in this year’s THR comedy actor roundtable. Levy says of Schitt’s Creek’s total lack of homophobia: “My feeling was if I were to include homophobia or bigotry of any kind in the show, it would be giving power to those people who see themselves on TV…I don’t ever consider our show to be very political, but I suppose that decision to just say, ‘We’re never going to show the dark side,’ is the quiet politics of our show.”

-Variety’s latest Actors on Actors video is with Homeland’s Claire Danes and Damien Lewis. Why did he take this call in his car?!

Alicia Keys did Vogue’s 73 Questions  and her house is gorg (it was filmed back in Feb).

-Netflix is shifting $100 million to Black-owned banks.

Jeffrey Epstein’s confidante and alleged accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been arrested by the FBI. It’ll be very interesting to see if she names names.

-Hulu has renewed The Great for a second season. I’m still not done the first but am loving it!

-This is such a good piece on the Golden Girls on why it’s weird the mudface scene is what the show is getting criticized for when the entire series is mired in racism and rape culture, and how it’s important to critically unpack all the messages we receive every day in pop culture and think deeply about how to reduce the harm in them.

-The Hamilton movie drops on Disney+ tomorrow and the reviews are glowing. It’s 100% fresh on RottenTomatoes with 82 reviews counted.

Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, and Chiwetel Ejiofor star in the new trailer for The Old Guard.
