vanity fair hollywood issue 2

-The 27th Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue is a splash of candy-coloured craziness this drab February desperately needed. (Watch the video cover to get the full effect.) It features Zendaya, Michael B. Jordan, Charlize Theron, Michaela Coel, Sacha Baron Cohen, Maya Rudolph, LaKeith Stanfield, Dan Levy, Awkwafina and more.

Tiger Woods has been seriously injured in a car crash in California. He’s undergoing surgery for leg injuries after having to be removed from the car by the jaws of life.

Tavi Gevinson‘s essay on the Britney Spears documentary is so, so good. The doc positions society/the media of tearing her down because they were uncomfortable with her expressing sexuality, but did Spears as a teenager really have any control over the image she was projecting? Tavi gets to the heart of why there’s way too much focus on a young girl’s “agency” about her appearance/attitude. “Even young women who are not megafamous have typically picked up on what makes them appear valuable by the age of 15. Their capacity to perpetuate these standards doesn’t mean they are not also victims of these standards.”

Gerard Depardieu has been charged with rape and sexual assault in connection with a 2018 case involving an actress in her 20s.

Shailene Woodley confirmed that she’s engaged to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, telling Jimmy Fallon: “I never thought as a little girl, ‘Yeah when I grow up I’m going to marry someone who throws balls, yeah!’ But he’s really just so go good at it. I’m very impressed.” She also added “For us, it’s not new news, so it’s kind of funny everybody right now is freaking out over it. We’re like, ‘Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while,'” leading to more questions about the timeline.

Drew Barrymore revealed to Howard Stern that her mother placed her in a “full psychiatric ward” for a year and a half when she was 13. “I was going to clubs and not going to school and stealing my mom’s car and, you know, I was out of control…I think after, you know, 30, years of therapy, and a lot of soul-searching and having kids myself, you know, I think she created a monster. And she didn’t know what to do with the monster.”

George Clooney says his wife Amal will not allow him to go near their daughter’s hair with his Flobee. Smart woman.

-What a shock. The publisher of Woody Allen‘s memoir is facing accusations of a history of workplace toxicity and inappropriate behavior.

-Man, this podcast interview with Ethan Hawke is great. He talks about everything from learning from Philip Seymour Hoffman and Denzel Washington, to joining the MCU,  to Saint Francis of Assii’s quest for sainthood.

-Also great: Vulture has compiled the 101 greatest endings in film history.

-Here’s our first look at HBO’s Tina Turner doc.

-Speaking of HBO, the limited series Beartown premiered last night to strong reviews. I haven’t read the book it’s based on, but I just read that author’s latest (Anxious People) and adored it.

-Superman & Lois premieres on the CW tonight, and THR calls it thirtysomething with superpowers, which intrigues me.

-Ginny And Georgia on Netflix is being promoted as the next Gilmore Girls, but critics are saying it’s more than that.

-Here’s the latest trailer for The Mauritanian. I found this movie really bleak, but Tahar Rahim‘s performance is astounding.

Jennifer Lopez’s Inauguration Performance Gets Mixed Reviews

JLo’s performance at the inauguration was, um, interesting. But I adored the white outfit — and the photo shoot.

The New Radicalsappearance at today’s inauguration makes more sense when you learn that “You Get What You Give” was the Biden family’s breakfast rallying song when Beau was going through cancer treatment. *sob*

Lady Gaga took her tech entrepreneur boyfriend Michael Polansky to the inauguration.

Rihanna had today’s best social media post.

-I’m not a huge James Corden fan but his “One Day More” song with Broadway stars was pretty spectacular.

Danny Masterson has pleaded not guilty to charges of raping three women and is out on $3.3 million bail.

Lori Harvey and Michael B Jordan continue to enjoy their blissful bubble.

-Variety’s latest Actors On Actors video features Daniel Kaluuya and Tom Holland, and it’s all very charming. Holland says he broke his laptop when he found out he’d landed Spider-Man: “I flipped it up in the air. It fell off my bed. My dog went nuts. I ran downstairs. I was telling my family, “I got the part! I got the part!”‘

-Lupin (a French Netflix show about a gentleman thief who steals a diamond necklace for revenge) is on track to reach more households than recent buzzy fare such as Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit.

-I haven’t started it yet but the reviews are glowing.

-Every time there’s a fluffy People story about Kristen Bell, I remember Deux Moi’s recent posts about how she’s being groomed to take over Ellen’s job.

-I just got all caught up on The Boys (I blame Aya Cash) and am now crushing on Jack Quaid. This IG Live in which Jane Levy assures him he’s hot is hilarious.

-Netflix stock hit an all-time high today.

Jovan Adepo, Grace Van Patten and Mary J. Bilge star in The Violent Heart trailer.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Split

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas have split up . It’s a holiday in the US, which makes it a good day to try to slip this news under the radar. Still, the People quotes from sources are pretty supportive of both sides, and yet she’s been officially positioned as the dumper and he’s the dumpee. I wonder how they worked that out.

Armie Hammer has apologized after his finsta leaked and it included a post that showed an unidentified woman in lingerie on her hands and knees on a hotel bed, whom he referred to as ‘Miss Cayman.’ He issued a statement to the Cayman Compass: “I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman.” First of all, if he posted it to Instagram it’s not exactly “stolen.” Secondly, *this* is what he feels the need to apologize about?! I gotta hope he’s just getting warmed up.

-This is a good take on how the cannibalism accusations are the least disturbing in this saga. His last girlfriend said she checked herself into a 30-day partial hospitalization program designed to treat PTSD and trauma following their 2-month relationship last year. I also liked this thread about how damaging it is for him to say he prefers rough sex but stopped wanting it with his wife because that’s the mother of his children and he grew to respect her too much.

-He was also reportedly fantasizing about sex during BLM protests, so it just gets better and better.

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey look like they’re having a blast on vacation. Are paps just hanging out in St. Barts or….?

-I don’t watch Batwoman but according to critics, the show isn’t really feeling the loss of Ruby Rose‘s departure. They’re loving Javicia Leslie, who took over the leading role in last night’s episode.

Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ‘vagina’ candle reportedly exploded in a UK woman’s home, which was a gift for headline writers today.

Dua Lipa, I really like you, but we’re not doing this trend again, mmm-kay?

-A source tells People that Kim Kardashian and Kayne West have given up going to marriage counseling.

-The guy who played Christopher on Girlmore Girls denied rumours that he attended the Capitol insurrection — but he seemed to support it.

Matthew McConaughey talked cancel culture with Jordan Peterson. Jordan Freakin’ Peterson?!? That’s a bridge too far for me.

-Have you watched Promising Young Woman yet? My favourite part of it is how it weaponizes its casting by using actors who are known for playing nice guys on TV.

Bow Wow played a packed indoor concert in Houston. Can you imagine risking your life…for Bow Wow?!?

Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly, who have been dating for five months, are moving into a $27.5 million mansion.

Romeo Beckham looks so much like his mom Victoria on the cover of Luomo Vogue.

Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League is going to be a 4-hour movie on HBO Max, not a 4-hour miniseries. Twitter seems to think this is a big deal, but I continue to care a negative amount about this entire project.

Matt Damon has joined the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. There’s no word if he’s got a bigger role than the cameo he made in Ragnarok.

-I like these predictions about how TV may soon change. Moving late-night shows to prime time seems like a no-brainer.

-Here’s the trailer for the new series The Equalizer, premiering after the Super Bowl. I’m not really into CBS shows, but I *am* into watching Queen Latifah being an ass-kicking vigilante.

Nicolas Cage fights killer animatronics in the first trailer for Willy’s Wonderland.
