Chris Evans Reaches Peak Captain America in Esquire

chris-evans-esquire

Chris Evans made the entire internet swoon today with his new Esquire cover story.  He talks about how his Marvel contract is done after the next two Avengers movies, and about being outspoken against Trump (“Look, I’m in a business where you’ve got to sell tickets. But, my God, I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn’t speak up… If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that”). He also jumps out of a plane with the interviewer.

Ewan McGregor said”I’m f*cking proud to be a woke bae!” (right after someone explained to him what that meant).

Ben Affleck announced last night in a Facebook post that he just got out of rehab. Sources say he checked in immediately after the Oscars and it was his own decision, not prompted by any specific incident.

Kim Kardashian West believes the robbers who attacked her in Paris were monitoring her social media usage. Well, yeah.

Mandy Patinkin reportedly “burst into tears” watching Jake Gyllenhaal on Broadway.

-Nicole sent me this video last night of Prince William dancing at a club with the text “we have the same top moves.” She’s not wrong.

-Cleanse your palate with this video of Isabelle Huppert dancing. (I love how she has no time for that JT song tho.)

-How to Get Away With Murder’s Aja Naomi King might be dating co-star Alfred Enoch? I ship it.

-Oh god. On the anniversary of the Fappening, more alleged intimate photos of actresses are being circulated online, and this time Emma Watson and Amanda Seyfried are among the targets.

Sarah Paulson, stylist Karla Welch and Ruth Negga look amazeballs on the cover of THR.

Leighton Meester knows she would bring her Blair Waldorf-style A game and crush it on The Bachelor. “If you can’t win The Bachelor, what’s wrong with you?”

-Former SNL star Noël Wells has some harsh words for the show’s “comedy dinosaurs.”

-I’m always so fascinated by who runs celebrity Twitter accounts. Is it the stars themselves, or do they outsource it? With Adele, we can be sure it’s the latter because her managers have taken away her access. “I’m not allowed to access my own Twitter because I’m quite mouthy and I say the wrong thing a lot of the time.”

Charlie Hunnam says he is “profoundly germophobic” but he has a good reason for it — blindness caused by dogs.

The Good Fight will return for a second season on  CBS All Access. I like it but not enough to go searching for downloads so I’m am so, so glad it airs like a regular TV show here in Canada.

-Also getting a second season is FX’s Legion. I’m on the fence about that one. It sure is pretty but I don’t know if there’s a lot of there there.

-We’re getting a Rihanna–Adam Driver musical drama? OK THEN!

Kelly Clarkson has a giant mounted bear in her living room like the gd boss that she is.

-The season finale for This Is Us aired last night and it was…not good. Like, really not good. This is what happens when you build your show around a gimmick (and when you already delivered your best emotional wallop two episodes ago). It’s no surprise producers are already promising a “lighter” season two.

-Also, if this is how Jack dies I’m going to scream.

American Gods’ first trailer takes us into Neil Gaiman‘s trippy world.

Oprah fights for justice for her mother in the first trailer for HBO’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I wasn’t sure how they’d be able to adapt that book but this looks GOOD.

Adam Brody & Ben McKenzie Have Big Baby News (Unrelated, Sadly)

Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie in The O.C.
Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie in The O.C. (Fox)

-It’s a huge day for The OC alums. Adam Brody and Leighton Meester welcomed a baby girl (who they adorably named Arlo Day), while Ben McKenzie is reportedly expecting a baby with Gotham costar Morena Baccarin. The pregnancy bombshell dropped in the middle of her divorce case, so this should be interesting…

-Congrats to Usher and Grace Miguel, who tied the knot.

-Oof. This comparision of critical reactions to Ryan Adams‘ cover version of 1989 versus Taylor Swift’s original work is devastatingly sexist.

-Rumours of trouble in Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady’s marriage continue to swirl.

-I’m kind of loving Jimmy Kimmel‘s new method of making stars read mean tweets live, especially when it’s clear that they didn’t sneak a peek beforehand. Andrew Garfield’s reaction to being compared to a pedophile who lives in an RV is priceless.

Jimmy Fallon got Keenan & Kel to reunite on his show for a “Good Burger” sketch and it was wonderful.

-This is great: the ladies of The Office recreated a photo they took five years ago. I really had to squint to figure out which one was the new one, which I guess means they’re all aging really well!

-I really liked the bits in this article talking about what a tough interview Shonda Rhimes is.

-Also, if you’re tweeting about Scandal’s premiere tonight and don’t like Olitz (because you’re a sane, rational person), you might want to avoid using the #Scandal hashtag. It’ll automatically add a ‘shippery emoji to your tweet.

Pierce Brosnan doesn’t have high hopes for the next James Bond: “Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white.”

Robert Pattinson admits that Twihards “drove him crazy.” Gee, ya think?

-Even Ryan Reynolds can’t figure out how to build IKEA units.

Kanye West sees himself as a 17-year-old adopted child of the fashion industry. Well, he’s got the “child” part right…

Maggie Gyllenhaal just joined James Franco‘s HBO series about porn, which means we all have to watch it now. Sigh.

-My feelings for Terrence Howard prevent me from watching Empire, but damn this picture of its writers’ room makes me think they’re doing something right.

-Also last night’s Empire premiere got a 16M viewers and a 6.5 rating in the A18-49 demo. That’s INSANE these days. It certainly dominated my Twitter TL all night. (My favourite part of this ratings article is the last line: “At 10 p.m., Nashville (5 million, 1.3) existed.”)

-Guys, I would totally eat at Gwyneth Paltrow’s food truck. I can’t be alone in this, right?!

Jeff Daniels explains the stakes in this new clip from The Martian.

Here’s the First Photo of Mulder and Scully in The X Files Reboot

-After all of yesterday’s kissy paparazzi photos from the set, here is the first official photo of Mulder and Scully on The X Files reboot. As always, Buzzfeed is asking all the tough questions.

-Also, USA Today ran a story about how Gillian Anderson is basically taking over our TV screens this year. I have no objection to that.

-I don’t watch The View, but Raven Symone seems like a really smart addition to that table.

-Ugh, Jerry Seinfeld needs to stop with the petulant anti-PC policing. It’s one thing to advocate for freedom of speech, but that’s not what he’s doing. Instead, he’s claiming his joke bombed because he’s a victim of unfairly changing times. Maybe his joke bombed because it wasn’t very good? (In case you couldn’t tell, I’m really over this knee jerk reaction from comics that all criticism is censorship, especially since a lot of comedy — especially his — is essentially criticism.)

-THR’s drama actress Emmy roundtable is on point, with Viola Davis, Lizzy Caplan, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessica Lange and Ruth Wilson.

Miley Cyrus says she considers her gender and sexuality fluid. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”

Zoë Saldana had to take to Facebook to defend her husband’s choice to take her last name because people are small-minded asshats.

-Just in case you forgot, John Cusack can get it.

-I might be biased because I love her, but Leighton Meester‘s cover of The Cardigans is good, no?

-In a new podcast, the Fifty Shades screenwriter talked about the tension on the set, why Charlie Huffman really dropped out, and why she can’t bring herself to watch the movie. “My heart really was broken by that process.”

-Also, a manuscript of the new Fifty Shades book was stolen. They should probably just not release it then, right?

-I’m glad that Mindy Kaling Twitter-slapped this fashion blog. It’s one thing to not like her outfit, but it’s another to start a post with “Mindy Kaling is one of those ‘woman of the people’ types who basics find soooooo hilars.”

-I love how much fun Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain continue to have fun with the fact that everyone mixes them up.

-A Clueless oral history? Sold!

Denis Leary and Molly Shannon mangled song lyrics with Jimmy Fallon on last night’s game of Nonsense Karaoke.

-InTouch is still like a dog with a bone when it comes to the Duggars — and I love it.

Katy Perry’s managers are denying reports she wrote a Taylor Swift slam song.

This interview with GoT’s Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke on being TV’s new power couple is adorable.

-Meanwhile, this is a super smart take on Game of Thrones, Hannibal, and the current too-much-ness aspect of violence on TV.

-No surprise here giving Pitch Perfect 2’s box office haul, but Universal just greenlit Pitch Perfect 3.

-Here’s the creepy trailer for Regression, starring Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson.
