-I was really surprised that when the Tom Cruise audio leaked last night, the immediate reaction seemed to be mostly “go, Tom!” I mean yes, we all want to yell at dummies who break covid protocols, but I just kept thinking about how awful it would be to have a boss who berates you like that in public. And the power imbalance of subordinates getting screamed at by one of the most powerful actors in the world is yucky. I’m sure it had to be said but I’m not sure that was the best way to say it, and if this audio leaked at any other time he would be stuck with a Christian Bale “get out of my eyeline!” level scandal.

George Clooney says he supports Cruise, though he might have handled it differently. “I think it doesn’t help necessarily to point to specific people in that way and do it that…but, you know, everybody has their own style. The people who were on that shoot will tell us more about it. I understand why he did it. He’s not wrong at all about that. You know, I just, I don’t know that I would have done it quite that personally, but I don’t know all the circumstances so maybe he had [done it differently] 10 or 15 times before.”

-Gabrielle Union will lead a table read of a classic Friends episode over Zoom on September 22. If they keep doing these things, the HBO Max reunion will soon become moot … as maybe it should?

-The upcoming season of Supergirl will be its last. Melissa Benoist is pregnant and her husband is no longer on the show, so I wonder if she no longer wants to be stuck in Vancouver for 8 months of the year. I assume some of the actors may end up on the new Superman & Lois show.

Then he took it up a notch on Instagram Live: “I’ll say it again. F*ck you racist white people. I said what I said. If you don’t f*cking like it, go suck a dick…If you’re a fan of me and you support my work and you’re racist and you’re arguing with what I was saying, f*ck off, you f*cking dickheads.” I love him with my whole heart.

-This is a pretty great breakdown of that Tatler cover story on Kate Middleton. Meanwhile, Kensington Palace has hit back at Tatler’s article, saying “This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication.” Which is surprising, seeing as many believe the article was sanctioned by Kate.
