-It’s been one of those weeks where I thought it was Friday every day (it was really not), so this Michael B. Jordan cover couldn’t have come at a better time. He dismisses rumours that he doesn’t date black women: “It’s so funny to everybody because it couldn’t be further from the truth. My dad and my mom both said, ‘If they only knew.’ If they only knew. And that’s the thing that keeps me not tripping about it, you know what I mean?”

-Speaking of good covers,  Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and Sarah Silverman cover the GQ comedy issue — and the photo pokes fun at Vanity Fair’s recent cover fail.

-MTV has suspended production on Catfish because Nev Schulman has been accused of sexual misconduct. In a YouTube video, a woman who appeared in a season 4 episode accused Schulman and an unnamed female producer of harassment and assault. He’s denied it, saying “The behavior described in this video did not happen.”

-Congrats to Chrissy Teigen, who had baby number 2.

–Meghan Markle released a statement that her father will not be attending the wedding. I’m still not convinced.

–Gillian Anderson will star as a sex therapist in a new Netflix series and I’m totally here for it.

-Six months ago, Mo Ryan broke the story that NCIS NOLA showrunner Brad Kern had been the subject of numerous HR complaints. CBS now says Kern is no longer showrunning, but he’s still a “consultant.”

-I’m sad that they’re all ending, but I’m really glad that the CW is giving iZombie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane The Virgin a chance to end on their own terms and plan their final runs. Too bad that Jane isn’t coming back until mid-season, though. So long to wait after that huge finale twist!

-Now that the upfronts are over, here are the trailers for all the new broadcast shows debuting this fall. Medical drama New Amersterdam seems to be NBC’s biggest bet because it landed the coveted post-This Is Us timeslot, The Passage on Fox might be decent (I liked the book and anything that puts Mark-Paul Gosselaar back on my TV is tops), critics really seemed to like what they saw of Leighton Meester’s Single Parents, and on the CW the Charmed trailer actually looks…good? It’s from the Jane the Virgin showrunner so suddenly I have high hopes.

-CW’s next superhero show crossover will feature Batwoman and the city of Gotham. Huh.

-I love Buzzfeed’s ode to Winston on New Girl. He was such a perfect weirdo.

-Stop claiming that fictional characters have different sexual orientations than what is actually seen onscreen, writers. That’s not representation, that’s just pretending to have representation. It doesn’t count.

-Why even ask John Travolta about his thoughts on Me Too? Like, why is he even relevant to the discussion?

-Ditto for Lee Daniels.

-I adored Zombieland so I’m very psyched by the news that a sequel with the original cast is slated for next year. Between this and Jordan Peele executive producing a show about vengeance-driven Nazi hunters for Amazon, it’s a good time for zombies.

-The red-band trailer for Sorry to Bother You has arrived. Oh yes.

 

 

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Sparks Healthcare Talk

-Damn: Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed that she’s fighting a breast cancer diagnosis, which she found out about the day after her Emmy win.

–Kate McKinnon is on the cover of the November issue of Vanity Fair, in which she remains admirably tight-lipped about her personal life. I hate hate hate the cover image, but the inside shots are beautiful.

–Rihanna has been taking to Twitter on a regular basis over the past week asking Trump what his administration is doing to relieve the suffering in Puerto Rico. She amped up her message yesterday, telling him “Don’t let your people die like this.”

-This video of a toddler caught sneaking popcorn from Prince Harry during Toronto’s Invictus Games makes me very melt-y.

–Harry was also a surprise guest at a WE Day event in TO.

-If Kim Cattrall being a diva is preventing a third Sex in the City movie from happening, we all need to send her a fruit basket.

–Kim Kardashian confirmed that she and Kanye are expecting in a preview for the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

-Netflix plans to invest at least $400 million in Canadian production in the next five years — though it might not be great news for Canadians.

-It’s been a rough week. I just don’t think I have it in me to read a whole story about Idris Elba falling in love with his new girlfriend if that girlfriend isn’t me…

-Disney may have forced ABC to renew Agents of Shield for movie synergy reasons.

-Speaking of ABC’s superhero shows, the reviews of Inhumans are hilariously *brutal*. Variety says “it makes Iron Fist look like Citizen Kane by comparison,” while Sepinwall says “Inhumans is Marvel’s version of “fetch.” Hopefully this awful TV show means they stop trying to make it happen.” The same showrunner also did Iron Fist. How does he get to fail twice, but the Agent Carter showrunners still don’t have a new show lined up?!

-It’s THR’s annual Hollywood salary list day! I need to learn how to operate a boom mic…

The Bachelor in Paradise Mess Gets Messier

-A Bachelor in Paradise crew member provided a horrific, detailed account of the alleged sexual misconduct, claiming that the female contestant was so out of it that she went limp and kept sliding under the water. This just keeps getting worse and worse. And of course, the slut shamers are out in full force.

-Meanwhile, the male contestant is reportedly demanding to see the footage as he believes it will exonerate him.

-According to Chris Harrison, no decisions have been made about Bachelor in Paradise’s future, but I can’t imagine them ever coming back after this.

-It sounds like Jennifer Lawrence has nabbed the coveted September cover of Vogue.

-Yes, Slate, Katy Perry’s new album is a hot mess. No, Slate, it is not our fault.

-Also, Katy Perry says Josh Groban is “the one who got away.”

-Last night, Stephen Colbert grilled Oliver Stone on his lenient interview with Putin and things got hella awkward, especially when the audience started openly laughing at his answers.

-Not surprisingly, the rumours that Tom Hardy may be cast as Jafar in the live-action Aladdin did not go over well.

-Glow, Alison Brie‘s Netflix’s comedy about female wrestlers, is getting really good reviews. THR says it’s “worth stepping into the ring for,” EW praises its “heartbreaking glitter-blasted humanity,” and TVLine says it “puts ’80s kitsch in a hilarious headlock.”

-Speaking of Netflix comedies, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has been renewed for season 4. I’m not through the new season, but I’m loving what I’ve seen so far. (The line “are you marching in a Give Back the Night rally?” made me laugh so hard on a plane recently, I woke up the woman next to me.)

–Sandra Oh is returning to TV to star in BBC’s Killing Eve, created by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge. God, I love all of those words!

–Justin Bieber‘s fans were not happy with him when he said he couldn’t sing “Despacito” because he didn’t know the lyrics.

-At the Rough Night premiere, Scarlett Johansson hung out with the 72-year-old woman who went viral after her grandson posted a photo of her when she was younger and she looked just like the actress.

-Meanwhile, Scarlett was once again spotted with SNL’s Colin Jost.

–Demi Moore, Leslie Jones, and Demetrius Shipp Jr. played charades with Fallon last night.

-I haven’t really looked at Salma Hayek the same way since that disastrous luncheon earlier this year, but she’s been telling some very funny stories on her latest talk show tour.

-If there’s a prize for “best walking onto a talk show stage,” Kate McKinnon just won it.

-The average Netflix user has streamed almost three full Adam Sandler movies. Humanity is doomed.

-I’m probably supposed to hate this dress on Nicole Kidman, but there’s something about the way she’s been leaning into the witchy fairy look lately that I can’t help but appreciate.

-The trailer for the Whitney Houston doc, which reportedly sheds light on rumored relationship with Robyn Crawford, has arrived.

-This is a great piece on how reviewers treated Gal Gadot when writing about Wonder Woman. Basically, we need more female and POC critics.

-Have you and your friends fought over the NYT’s list of the 25 best films of the 21st century yet? You will.

-I love Roxanne Gay. I love her. She writes some of the most searing, raw fiction out there. And her interview with Trevor Noah made me love her even more. She was heartbreakingly brave when talking about how being gang-raped at 12 led to her weight issues, and how the world treats obese people.

-Why the hell are they remaking Flatliners? And why the hell are Ellen Page and Diego Luna in it? Nina Dobrev, I get, but Page was nominated for an Oscar!
