Diddy’s New Era

diddy vanity fair

Sean Combs landed the cover of Vanity Fair’s September issue, talking about the next phase in his career — launching a record label.

Christine Baranski looks like the queen that she is in V Magazine. She talks about acting since 1980 (“I was in my 60s before I was number one on the call sheet. I just continue working and try to be defined by the work that I do. I’m not interested in selling myself or putting myself in quotation marks.”)

-Speaking of The Good Fight, this season is the first time they did an animated song that I didn’t really agree with. Still catchy though.

-There are rumours that Emma Stone, Emily Blunt, and Gerard Butler might be following Scarlett Johansson’s lead and looking into legal action about their streaming revenue.

Blunt’s Jungle Cruise rode to a better-than-expected opening of $34.2 million at the domestic box office.

Jennifer Lopez was spotted wearing the Harry Winston’s bracelet Ben Affleck gave her back in 2002. It’s as awful as I remembered it.

Matt Damon‘s poor publicist managed to craft a decent statement about how he used the f-word until recently when he got schooled by his daughter, but it doesn’t really wash the stink off the fact that he willingly volunteered that story in the press, expecting to be lauded for his wokeness.

Princess Eugenie‘s husband Jack Brooksbank was photographed on a yacht with a topless woman while wrapping his arm around another. Fergie has defended her son-in-law, saying he was “just doing his job” as a brand ambassador for Casamigos. I mean, that’s exactly how I’d expect a brand ambassador for a tequila brand to act, so I guess she’s not wrong?

Kathy Griffin revealed that she has lung cancer and will undergo surgery.

-Cha-ching! Reese Witherspoon just sold her production company for almost $1 billion.

Dolly Parton, who is estimated to have earned millions of dollars in royalties for writing “I Will Always Love You” in 1973, revealed this week how she spent her money from the songwriting credit for Whitney Houston: She invested in a building located in a historically Black Nashville neighborhood.

-Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings original series — the most expensive TV show ever made — will premiere Sept 2022.

-The first trailer for Venom 2L Let There Be Carnage has dropped and it really lives up to its name.

-Here’s the first trailer for House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.

Adam Driver Is a Sexy Centaur

Adam Driver‘s Burberry campaign is a LOT. In the video, he swims with a horse and eventually becomes a centaur. In the stills, he looks like he’s posing for the cover of a book that I would definitely read.

-Someone was brave enough to ask Matt Damon about Bennifer during his Stillwater press tour. “He deserves every happiness in the world. I’m glad for both of them.” That’s very nice while also effectively conveying a “don’t ask me again” undertone.

-When asked by another outlet about the latest photos, he said “All the pictures that have come out are the same ones that you see. I don’t know anything you don’t know.” Yeah, he’s done.

Lorde did Vogue’s 73 Questions, but at NYC’s Botanical Gardens instead of her house.

-There’s been rumours for a while that Lucy Lui and Bill Murray got into it on the Charlie’s Angels set (which resurfaced a few months ago when a PA from the movie tweeted that Murray rewrote a scene and told her “I don’t know what you’re complaining about. I gave you more lines. I mean… look who you’re in with here. You’re TV… and this is the big league”).  In a new podcast, she confirmed they clashed on set. “Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it. So, yes, I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there’s no need to condescend or to put other people down. And I would not stand down, and nor should I have.”

-This is a good piece on how women and gay men are dominating hip hop right now, but getting little respect.

Mena Suvari wrote a memoir about her rough go of things in Hollywood as she was coming up, and features a lot of older men using her when she was she was just a teen.

Paris Hilton shows off her culinary skills, or lack thereof, in the trailer for her upcoming Netflix series. I’m not really sure what demo this is aimed at (does anyone even remember “that’s hot”?) but it looks fun enough.

Hilton also denied rumours that she’s pregnant.

-I had no idea Zach Braff directed episodes of Ted Lasso.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher appeared on Dax Shepard‘s podcast and they all said that they don’t wash their whole bodies when they shower. What? They also said they only bathe their children if there’s visible dirt on them. No really, what??

Britney Spears‘ mom Lynne spoke out about the singer’s ongoing conservatorship battle in new court documents, saying Jamie “is incapable of putting his daughter’s interests ahead of his own” and that Britney has “fear and hatred” towards him.

Britney, meanwhile, has posted more topless pics on Instagram. I still don’t understand anything that’s happening with her feed.

-An actor who was too old to be playing a teen is defending another actor who is too old to be playing a teen.

-I totally forgot that Comic-Con was happening and I barely heard anything about it. Here’s the biggest (though not really) reveals.

-The all-new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife features the return of the original cast. I only have eyes for Carrie Coon, though.

Jennifer Lopez celebrated turning 52 by showing off her insane body in a series of photos — one of which included Ben Affleck. He was also featured in Leah Remini‘s bday tribute video. This has all led to lots of (justifiable) chatter about how quickly she’s made him hot by association.

Sarah Ferguson appears on the cover of Town & Country and talks about not being invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding (“I didn’t think I was probably worthy to go to their wedding. I took myself to Thailand, actually, to be far away from it so that I could try and heal”), how she was portrayed in the tabloids (“It was always that Diana was portrayed as the saint and I was portrayed as the sinner. Bad Fergie sold an awful lot of papers”) and her thoughts on Diana (“I believe that Diana would be so proud of her boys…and she’d be so proud of her grandchildren”).

-Meanwhile, the royal line of succession has been updated to officially include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s daughter Lilibet Diana.

-I go away for a week and now Jason Sudeikis and Irina Shayk might be a thing?

-Most people didn’t even know that Issa Rae was in a longterm relationship – let alone that she was about to drop some surprise wedding pics. The dress is much more traditional that I would have guessed, but Vera Wang is back to being all the rage these days.

Anna Faris also had a secret wedding.

Jamie Lynn Spears keeps trying to set the record straight about where she stands with sister Britney Spears, and keeps making it worse.

-Meanwhile, Britney and her lawyers laid out their case in new legal docs as to why her father should be removed as conservator of her estate. I’m surprised she filed a petition to replace him rather than end the conservatorship altogether, but that’s probably coming.

-Covid-related delays is cost a lot of productions money — but it might cost The Morning Show more than most. Their insurance company doesn’t want to cover all the delays, triggering a $44M lawsuit.

-Speaking of Apple+ shows, Ted Lasso’s season two premiere drew lots of eyeballs.

-If you follow writer Twitter, you’d know that there’s a lot of chatter about how little assistants are getting paid in Hollywood. Sophia Bush says that on Chicago PD, the PAs were only getting $500/week.

Pink offered to pay a 1,500-Euro fine issued to Norway’s beach handball team after the women wore athletic shorts instead of bikini bottoms to protest against sexism.

-I always thought LFO seemed like just another boy band at the time but the story behind them is surprisingly tragic.

Angelina Jolie got a big win in her custody battle against Brad Pitt.

-This oral history of Clifford, the 1994 comedy about a deranged little boy played by Martin Short, made me realize how beloved this weird little movie is. The part where Nic Cage can’t get through talking about a scene because he’s laughing to hard remembering it is gold.

-Here’s the first full trailer for the Dexter reboot. There’s no way this thing is going to be good, but I can feel myself getting sucked in solely on morbid curiosity.

Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon and Melissa McCarthy star in the trailer for the upcoming Hulu show Nine Perfect Strangers.
