Kristen Stewart’s Royal Role

–Kristen Stewart will play Princess Diana in a new movie which is…hard to imagine. I actually really like Stewart as an actress but she seems to bring a very specific, twitchy energy to every role, whether it’s Personal Shopper or Charlie’s Angels.

–Gwyneth Paltrow plugged her new ‘Smells Like My Orgasm’ candle on Fallon — with help from her 14-year-old son Moses.

-In this week’s People, Tyler Perry penned an essay about racial injustice. He narrates a recorded version for 8 min & 46 seconds — the exact length of time Derek Chauvin used a knee to pin George Floyd by the neck as he died.

-Screenshots are circulating from a private Facebook group in which a black film editor posted about looking to connect with other black editors, and a bunch of well-known white editors immediately called foul.

–J. Cole released a new song on Tuesday, which contains verses that many interpret as taking aim at Chicago rapper and activist Noname. It is all very tone policing. “When I see something that’s valid, I listen/But s**t, it’s something about the queen tone that’s botherin’ me” and “Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed.” He responded to the backlash by tweeting that he stands by his lyrics, but also encouraged fans to follow Noname: “I love and honor her as a leader in these times.”

–Chance the Rapper also weighed in, tweeting: “They both my peoples but only one of them put out a whole song talking about how the other needs to reconsider their tone and attitude in order to save the world. It’s not constructive and undermines all the work Noname has done. It’s not BWs job to spoon feed us. We grown”

-The Bold and the Beautiful headed back into production today and the safety measures are wild, including using actors’ real-life partners as stand-ins for intimate scenes.

-With all that’s been going on, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a public #MeToo-ing but that’s what happened last night to Chris D’Elia. The comedian (who, ironically, played a predator in the second season of You) was the subject of a series of Twitter threads from women who say he behaved inappropriately with them. Multiple young women shared screenshots of him apparently sliding into their DMs and trying to arrange meetups when they were still in their teens.

–D’Elia responded with a statement to TMZ: “I have said and done things that might have offended people during my career, but I have never knowingly pursued any underage women at any point. All of my relationships have been both legal and consensual and I have never met or exchanged any inappropriate photos with the people who have tweeted about me. That being said, I really am truly sorry. I was a dumb guy who ABSOLUTELY let myself get caught up in my lifestyle. That’s MY fault. I own it. I’ve been reflecting on this for some time now and I promise I will continue to do better.”

-Comic book writer Warren Ellis is also coming under fire on Twitter for his interactions with women.

-The CW released a committment to making their social pages safe and free of harassment for fans and talent. Which is great — but Candice Patton has been receiving online harassment and threats for 6 years and they did nothing.

-This is a very good piece on how some Hollywood TV studios drastically cut the pay of lowest-level assistants & support staff after the pandemic hit. Last week, at least 15 showrunners at WBTV banded together to fight for them, but the recent cuts to assistants’ pay particularly rankled employees who used to work with Andrew Kreisberg, who was fired from The CW in 2017 following allegations of sexual harassment — and was paid nearly $10 million by Warner Bros after he was let go.

–Ted Danson gushing about Schitt’s Creek to Annie Murphy during an Emmys roundtable is so heart healing.

-In another Emmys roundtable, Patrick Stewart revealed he was not high on Gene Roddenberry’s list to star on Star Trek: “Somewhere in the cellar of Paramount Pictures, there’s a Post-it note which says, ‘I do not want to hear Patrick Stewart’s name mentioned again ever!’ ”

–Joe Cornish says he’s met up with John Boyega to talk ideas for an Attack The Block sequel. Don’t tease me!!

-This is a good look back at how New Girl mastered the art of the slow burn with Nick and Jess.  (I think they eventually screwed up that relationship, but the beginning was perfection.)

-The National Book Critics Circle has imploded. More than half of the board has resigned in a series of events one member described as “bizarre and bloody in an end-of-a-Tarantino-movie way.”

–A teen romance about a guy who’s so beautiful he has to keep his face under wraps? Sure.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Join the Fight

–Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas took a break from pap walking to protest.

–John Boyega joined the protests in London today and told the crowd “I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f*ck that.”

-Speaking of the protests, Keke Palmer confronted the National Guard.

–Lea Michele has issued an apology for her past behavior — and I feel like her PR people should probably have taken one more pass at it. Saying things like “I don’t remember” tormenting costars and talking about how her behavior “was perceived by them” ain’t it.

-Spring Awakening’s Gerard Canonico fired back: “You were nothing but a nightmare to me and fellow understudy cast members. You made us feel like we didn’t belong there. I tried for years to be nice to you to no avail. Maybe actually apologize instead of placing the blame on how others ‘perceive’ you.”

-Glee’s Heather Morris also commented, saying she doesn’t want everyone to assume Michele is a racist. “With that said, was she unpleasant to work with? Very much so; for Lea to treat others with the disrespect that she did for as long as she did, I believe she SHOULD be called out.”

-Quibi execs are taking pay cuts. With some shows with huge stars still in the planning stages, I wonder if they will go forward, seeing as the platform doesn’t seem to be catching on at all.

-Fandoms get a bad rap, but this is the second time in a week that K-Pop fans have mobilized to fight racism and protect protesters.

-Have you watched Hannah Gadsby‘s new Netflix special Douglas yet? It’s a nice break from reality. In Vulture’s podcast, she talks about how she structured it like a fugue.

-Speaking of Vulture, I liked this article on stan culture in music fandom. “Lana and Doja learned the lesson Taylor Swift uncovered in the Reputation era, that you can only control your narrative inside your constituency. Outside the castle walls, the wolves are hungry.”

-For some reason I seem to follow every actor who’s ever been on the CW on Instagram. I’ve been pleasantly surprised how they’re using their platforms to amplify Black voices and show their support, so whenever someone makes a misstep it feels bigger. The latest doozies: Katie Cassidy was getting criticism on her silence so she … painted a hashtag on her wall? At least she wasn’t afraid to use the hashtag. Stephen Amell posted a video and gives the strangest explanation for his silence. He says he was quiet over the weekend because he wanted to give space to Black voices. But he posted like 7 videos on Facebook and some of them were nearly an hour long? In the video he also talks about how cops should get paid more and how white privilege didn’t get him where he is, hard work did. It’s a LOT.

-Speaking of the CW, the network are reportedly not going to recast Ruby Rose’s character on Batwoman — they’re just going to introduce a new actress to take over the cowl. It’s so strange. All of the major supporting characters are connected to Kate Kane (Kate’s sister, Kate’s dad, Kate’s cousin, Kate’s stepsister, Kate’s ex).  And if any show could recast the main character, it’s the one that has plots about literal face-swapping and a multiverse.

–Lori Loughlin‘s daughter Olivia Jade stepped in it again.

-Paper scripts, including sides and high-fives, will go away when Hollywood resumes production.

-I’ve started watching Anna Kendrick‘s new show Love Life and am kind of charmed by it, despite critics seeming to be down on it. Not all critics, though.

–Gwyneth Paltrow actually called out her followers who say “all lives matter” and I’m shook.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas’ Music Video Makeout

–Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are kissing in public again — but this time it’s for a music video.

–Cara Delevingne is telling fans to “stop hating” on ex-girlfriend Ashley Benson amid rumours Benson is dating G-Eazy, saying “you don’t know the whole truth, only her and I do and that’s the way it should be.”

-We’ve gotten to the point where we’re scouring IG photo backgrounds and judging celebrities’ pantries. I don’t hate it.

-Is Taylor Swift going to show up on American Idol next week to sing “Daisies” with Katy Perry? The internet seems to think so.

–Neil Gaiman says he wants to work out his relationship issues with Amanda Palmer in private — which he announced by publicly posting an open letter to her.  Yeah, this is working out well.

–Will Smith shows up for a verse on Joyner Lucas’ new song and everyone kind of forgot how good he is at rapping.

–Gwyneth Paltrow posted a photo of daughter Apple to celebrate her 16th birthday and there’s no way this kid isn’t going into showbiz.

-Is Wendy Williams ok? She had a weirdly strong reaction to Mary-Kate Olsen‘s divorce from Olivier Sarkozy.

-When it comes to live concerts, will URL replace IRL? This is a great look at the future of live concerts and how the Kpop industry is innovating, bringing fans and artists together through their screens with immersive, pay-per-view live events.

-It’s the 20 year anniversary of “Oops I Did It Again“. Because we’re old.

–Sarah Paulson knows everyone thinks she looks just like Adele — and she doesn’t hate it. “Listen, I’ll take it. I mean, what I wish they were comparing was my talent to her talent and saying that mine was as great as hers. Which quite honestly they can’t say because no one’s talent is as great as hers.”

-There’s going to be a miniseries adaptation of the story of The View, and this fantasy-casting nails it.

-The next Arrowverse crossover will be reduced to a two-hour event – if they’re ever allowed to film again.

–Shawn Ashmore plays a detective who hunts down the father-and-son serial killing duo who murdered his wife in the trailer for Darkness Falls.
