Julianne Hough Gets Revealing for Women’s Health

Julianne Hough naked cover

-In her cover story for Women’s HealthJulianne Hough reveals “I’m not straight” in Women’s Health interview. She’s also not clothed.

-[Note: I’m taking an extra long long weekend. See you mid-next week!]

-Speaking of naked photo shoots, 48-year-old Claudia Schiffer stripped down for Vogue to mark 25 years since she posed for her first cover.

-In Billie Eilish‘s Rolling Stone cover story, the 17-year-old talks about how giving up dancing due to a hip injury affected her mental health. “I think that’s when the depression started. It sent me down a hole. I went through a whole self-harming phase — we don’t have to go into it. But the gist of it was, I felt like I deserved to be in pain.”

-This article on the Fast & Furious stars’ complicated demands when it comes to fight scenes because they’re afraid of looking like wimps is AMAZING. Vin Diesel has his sister keep track of the number of punches he gets. Jason Statham negotiated a deal with the studio limiting how badly he can be beaten up onscreen. Dwayne Johnson enlists producers and editors to make sure he doesn’t have more losses than wins. They’re all delicate ego flowers and it tickles me so much.

-I love Lana Condor’s cover for Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam.

BJ Novak celebrated his 40th birthday with former Office costars Mindy Kaling, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey and Oscar Nunez.

Lena Dunham tried to kiss Brad Pitt on a red carpet — and he was not amused.

-The finale of Jane the Virgin killed me dead. And then I watched this video of the cast sobbing through the final table read and I died again.

-Grey’s/Euphoria star Eric Dane says he’s “the most sexualized man in Hollywood.” Awww, muffin.

Eva Longoria says her former Desperate Housewives costar Felicity Huffman is handling her legal woes “with grace.”

Idris Elba says he knew he’d made it when Beyonce talked to him at the Met gala.

-13 Reasons Why has been renewed for a fourth and final season. Season 3 is coming in August and it’s killing a major character (because clearly those kids haven’t suffered enough).

-Bull’s showrunner and its leading man Michael Weatherly received “leadership training” ahead of the show’s fourth season. Oh well, OKAY THEN!

-Here’s the latest trailer for Queen And Slim from director Melina Matsoukas and writer Lena Waithe, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith.

-Two British soldiers experience one harrowing day while fighting in World War I in the trailer for 1917, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard Madden.

Emilia Clarke Talks Fame and Famous Fans

emilia-clarke-allure

-The Mother of Dragons herself Emilia Clarke covers the new issue of Allure. She talks about her desire to go unrecognized in public (“I move like a shark when I’m in public. Head down. I think I’ve got quite bad posture because of it, because I’m determined to lead a normal life”), and the time Beyonce introduced herself to say she was a fan (“I watched her face go, ‘Oh, no, I shouldn’t be talking to this crazy [woman], who is essentially crying in front of me.’ I think my inner monologue was, ‘Stop fucking it up,’ and I kept fucking it up.”).

-Last night’s Game of Thrones was fun from an action point of view, but garbage from a character arc point of view. Sure, there’s been foreshadowing that Daenerys has grown increasingly bloodthirsty (remember Meereen?), but foreshadowing shouldn’t replace character development. The buildup to her suddenly mowing down women and children was way, way too fast. Also feeling unearned was how Cersei ended up. And if you’re going to build up Jamie’s beautiful character arc for seasons just to throw it away in one episode, can there not be a line or two of dialogue about how he just couldn’t shake old habits/his true nature/whatever? The last two episodes have been character whiplash.

-They also had another coffee cup moment with Jamie’s gold hand suddenly going missing. How does a show with this budget keep messing up like this?!

-Wait, so the #FreeBritney movement wasn’t just a crazy conspiracy theory after all? Britney Spears requested that a judge end her conservatorship, and also accused her dad of placing her in a mental health facility against her will.

Felicity Huffman wept as she pleaded guilty today. Prosecutors are recommending she’s sentenced to four months in prison.

-Ooh boy, Constance Wu really stepped in it this weekend. When her ABC sitcom Fresh Off The Boat was renewed on Friday, she tweeted “So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. Fuck.” And when someone tweeted at her about the renewal “Great news!” she responded “No it’s not.” She also commented on the show’s IG post about the renewal “dislike.” Then her Crazy Rich Asians costar Gemma Chan liked a since-deleted tweet from a reporter who claims Wu has a reputation of being rude and petty (Chan said it was a mistake). Wu followed up with a tweet that didn’t really clear anything up. It all seemed like TV is now beneath her. And the next day came the pièce de résistance: her long apology post. Look, there’s a whole different conversation to be had about how actresses need to appear grateful for any sort of success in a way that actors don’t, but this apology made the situation worse. She passive aggressively called the Fresh of the Boat experience/cast/crew “easy and pleasant” but not challenging, and then — AND THEN — she had the balls to end it with “It’s meaningful when you make the choice to believe women.” As if everyone was lying about what she said and there aren’t screenshots everywhere?! Co-opting the #MeToo language to deflect from a temper tantrum is gross. And I can’t imagine how the FOTB cast and crew feels right now.

-Speaking of actors who are torpedoing their careers by venting on social media instead of in their friend group text, ABC’s Stumptown, starring Cobie Smulders, recast the romantic lead played by Mark Webber and he has some choice words about it.

-This deleted Endgame footage between Tony and Peter is so soft!

-The Avengers: Endgame screenwriters say that Captain America is the father of Peggy Carter’s children. Wait…that doesn’t make any sense. This is the latest incident of the creators over-explaining the plot in ways that make it seem like they don’t understand the universe that’s been established.

-I don’t know much about makeup influencers on YouTube, but this Tati Westbrook and James Charles feud is bananas. (Here’s a good refresher if you’re an old like me.) Since it all went down a couple of days ago, she has gained 2.6 million subscribers and he has lost 2.4 million.

-This weekend saw networks quietly killing more shows, including Whiskey Cavalier and Proven Innocent.

-Netflix’s steamy new What If trailer pits Renée Zellweger against Jane Levy.

Taylor Swift’s New Song Gets Mixed Reviews

-I’ve watched Taylor Swift’s new video a trillion times already today because the song is catchy as hell (despite the critics — The Atlantic called it “everything wrong with pop,” Stereogum called it “hollow” and “lazy,” Vulture said it’s “cute but cloying,” and The Independent called it “toothless.”) But what’s the clue she supposedly embedded in the video? Is she engaged?

-Speaking of engagement speculation, Mindy Kaling’s Beyonce audition is very funny but is that a ring we see?!

-Our long national nightmare may finally be over: it looks like Kate Beckinsale and Pete Davidson have split.

-High School Musical actress Monique Coleman recalled the time when Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron got into such a bad fight on set that they shut down production for a day.

-This is a fascinating, sprawling conversation with Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern, in which Stewart talks about her sexuality (“It’s easier to have a longer conversation that requires patience, versus f*cking five years ago, when people were demanding that I come out as gay. And I was like, ‘Dude, how do you know? I don’t even know!'”) and Dern reveals how they grew close while filming JT Leroy (“When we had social time, Kristen adopted my teenage son, who is obsessed with her. They became besties. That made it easier. I had a built-in nanny, co-star, love interest — an all-in-one”).

-More and more US outlets are starting to cover the Prince William affair rumours. The latest: The Cut.

-There were lots of very good takes published today on the recent trend of celebrities confusing criticism with personal attacks, including from Variety, Buzzfeed and Slate.

-Oh and Micheal Che is still whining (and confusing Variety with a blog).

Bradley Cooper taught Ellen some Italian curse words on today’s show.

-I can only assume that Felicity Huffman is just *thrilled* that pal Vanessa Williams is talking to the press about their post-arrest text exchange.

Harvey Weinstein‘s sexual assault trial has been postponed to September 9. Welp, that’s gonna make for an interesting TIFF.

-Avengers: Endgame is already tearing up all the record books with a $140M-$150M opening day, blasting away Star Wars: Force Awakens’ record first day of $119.1M. This thing is tracking for an opening weekend of at least $315M — and could make $1B worldwide.

-Everyone’s really worried about what’s going to happen in the crypts this weekend on Game of Thrones, but this fan theory is great.

George and Amal Clooney throw epic pizza parties, according to Adam Sandler, who attended one with Jennifer Aniston when they were shooting in Italy. “They made us homemade pizza. It was an amazing time. I sat next to Bono. It was a great day…Every time I’m with Jennifer something great happens because everybody loves Jennifer and I tend to stay at home and do nothing.” I kind of love that Aniston seemed to get Clooney in the split with Pitt.

-Also, Sandler and Aniston have teamed up again for a Netflix movie. At least it seems like they got a cool paid vacation out of it?
