Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd Rumours Continue

–Angelina Jolie and her kids were spotted at the same concert as The Weeknd a week after they had dinner together, leading to renewed speculation they’re dating (even though they’re probably not).

-Speaking of hard-to-believe dating rumours, the one about Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell has resurfaced.

-This headline makes it seem like it’s about how Kim Kardashian’s style has changed since leaving Kanye West, but it’s actually about how much he seemingly controlled what she wore.

–Millie Bobby Brown is reportedly dating Jon Bon Jovi’s son and wow this kid looks so much like his dad!

–Ariana Grande is honeymooning with Dalton Gomez in Amsterdam.

–Black Widow made a pandemic record $80 million for the U.S. opening and earned another $60 million on Disney+ Premier Access. The standalone superhero movie took in an estimated $218 million globally between ticket sales and Disney+ Premier Access.

-Move over, Selena Gomez. Paris Hilton is getting her own cooking show on Netflix.

-The Hating Game is coming to theatres later this year. I know I need to temper my expectations because it likely won’t be as good as the book but I CANNOT WAIT.

-Three weeks after pleading guilty in his child endangerment case, Drake Bell has been sentenced to two years probation.

–Jodie Turner-Smith‘s jewels were stolen from her hotel room in Cannes. It’s believed she may have been targeted after wearing Gucci jewelry to her premiere. Though that jewelry was taken back after the premiere, the robbers stole jewelry worth tens of thousands of euros, including her mother’s wedding ring.

-I’m not sure I like what Bella Hadid wore to Cannes, but tree boobs are certainly one way to generate buzz.

-French actor Judith Chemla, the 37 year-old French star of Mes freres et moi, will not attend the world premiere of the film at Cannes today after she filed a complaint against the director Yohan Manca (who is also her boyfriend), alleging he threw a phone at her. Uh, maybe he’s the one who shouldn’t go?

-A spokesperson for Lea Seydoux confirmed she tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. She will remain in quarantine until her doctors deem her safe to travel to Cannes and attend festival events. Which should be, like, NOT before the fest is over, no?

–Vince Staples and Lil Nas X’s twitter exchange was hilarious. No one is doing socials right now better than this kid.

-Here’s another best TV of the year so far list. I would add We Are Lady Parts to this list, but I love that Girls4eva and Starstruck made it in there.

-The reviews for White Lotus, HBO’s new show that debuted last night, are glowing. It’s about wealthy people ruining the lives of various workers at a Hawaiian resort, and the cast is stacked!

-Speaking of TV reviews, the new season of Ted Lasso is getting praise (though the premiere reportedly gets off to a shaky start with a baffling storytelling decision critics aren’t allowed to spoil).

–Shonda Rhimes just signed a new Netflix deal, earning a “significant” raise.

–Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are in full promo mode for Jungle Fever, and this morning on GMA they surprised a custodian who got his degree in his 40s to become a teacher.

–Chris Hemsworth recorded the Loki the Frog noise in last weeks’ Loki.

–Jessica Biel is stepping on Jessica Alba‘s turf by launching a wellness brand for kids.

-This is a good piece in the NYT about why lots of people have no plans to go back to the movies. Our theatres are opening again next week (after the longest closure in North America) and I can’t wait, but I get it.

–Jake Johnson says his new comedy indie movie Ride the Eagle is like “a sweeter companion piece” to New Girl, so I’m in.

–Matt Damon says he turned down James Cameron‘s offer of 10 percent of the Avatar profits to star in it, a payday that would have eventually totaled more than $280 million. Oopsie!

-The Good Place alums Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste reunite in the Queenpins trailer.

Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran Dance It Out

-Friends mania continues. Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran recreated Ross and Monica’s iconic dance routine on her Instagram, but they didn’t quite stick the landing.

-Meanwhile, the Friends creators say they didn’t intend to have an all-white cast. Ok, but how about the reunion? They could bring back the guy who played Mr. Heckles but they couldn’t bring back Gabrielle Union, Aisha Tyler or Phil Lewis?

-Oof. Ellie Kemper was reportedly once the “queen” at an event hosted by the KKK. No word from her camp yet, but it blew up twitter today so I assume as statement is coming.

-The Marvel bosses are reportedly unhappy over those viral Taika Waititi, Tessa Thompson and Rita Ora photos.

–Dolly Parton says she sleeps with a full face of makeup “because I never know if there’s going to be an earthquake or a tornado or a storm and I’m going to have to go out in the middle of the night!”

-It looks like Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly have reunited. They were spotted vacationing in St. Barts.

-The way Regé-Jean Page talks about Bridgerton and the romance genre is so impressive. That boy did the required reading.

–Emmy Rossum managed to keep her entire pregnancy a secret during the pandemic.

-I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Mare of Easttown finale since I didn’t like last week’s episode, but they totally stuck the landing.

-I liked this interview with the show’s creator on how he structured the finale.

-The fact that gen z has embraced Jennifer’s Body and how that movie continues to be vindicated makes me happy.

-There are signs of life at the theatre again. A Quiet Place Part II debuted at $57M, which is a record during the pandemic.

-The Werewolves Within trailer made me laugh — and it features pretty much every character actor working today.

Chrissy Teigen Talks Speaking Up and Stepping Back

–Chrissy Teigen covers the new issue of Marie Claire and talks about stepping away from social media (“I’m barely online anymore, and that was at the request of my therapist. I didn’t start therapy until quarantine. I used to avoid it and make fun of the idea of it, and then I found the right person and it changed my world”), and voting out Trump (“People are very confident in their ways of being open about their racism because they have the backing views of the president. It’s become such a hurtful, weird presidency for so many Americans, and I’m going to fight to get this person out of office”).

-Whoa. The Kardashians just announced an end to their reality show. Love ’em or hate ’em, they changed reality TV, dominated every new social media app that sprang up over the 20 seasons they were airing, and ushered in influencer culture.

-The Crown star Emma Corrin talks about playing Princess Diana in British Vogue: “I feel I’ve got to know Diana like you would a friend. I know that sounds really weird, but I get a great sense of companionship from her.”

–Katie Holmes and her new boyfriend Emilio Vitolo were photographed enjoying a very kissy meal. He’s an actor-turned-chef.

–Prince Harry and Megan Markle have paid back the renovations on Frogmore Cottage so they literally own the British people nothing and can live their life in peace without the UK press whining about them (at least, one can dream).

-Disney’s Mulan is facing a new wave of criticism for being filmed partly in Xinjiang, the region in China where Uighur Muslims are being detained in mass internment camps. This, on top of reviews from some critics who are questioning why an Asian director wasn’t chosen. This one was making the rounds today: “Were there any Asians on the creative team? An editor? A screenwriter? The composer? Anyone? I think maybe the make-up designer, plus a couple of producers looking to cash in. Whatever. Did I mention how tired I am?”

–Zac Efron has been living in Australia for a while, and he has been spotted holding hands with Australian model Vanessa Valladares. I’ve been watching his Netflix show and he kept mentioning how he needed to leave Hollywood so him hanging out down under and starting a new relationshipe? Love that for him.

-Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o posted an emotional tribute to Chadwick Boseman on her Instagram: “It doesn’t make sense.”

–Dwayne Johnson thanked New Jersey first responders by outfitting the Ridgefield Fire Department in New Jersey with brand-new pairs of his Under Armour shoes. The donation came days after he announced that he and his immediate family all contracted coronavirus, and while their daughters bounced back quickly, he and his wife Lauren “had a rough go at it.” He said, “I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well. And I’ve gone through some doozies in the past.”

-A former children’s TV presenter in Britain has denied he is the elusive graffiti artist Banksy after a theory posted online went viral. I don’t know this guy but he looks like a Wiggle, which would make it hilarious if true.

-I adore Sarah Paulson but the trailer for Ratched on Netflix leaves me cold. Is it supposed to look like yet another season of American Horror Story?

-In celebration of #StarTrekDay, here’s the new trailer for season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery.

-Photographers discuss about what red carpets could and should look like when events return.

-Tenet did ok box office business in theatres. It’s a Nolan movie though, so the usual complaints about sound mixing remain.

-Another day, another recycled Venice outfit from Cate Blanchett.

-This is an interesting look at how the odd film festival season is going to make for an even more odd Oscar season, with indies expected to make more headway than usual.

-One Night in Miami, Regina King‘s directorial debut, premiered to unanimously positive reviews last night at the Venice Film Festival.

-Speaking of festival movies that are gaining buzz, here’s the trailer for Nomadland starring Frances McDormand.

-Netflix has dropped the Rebecca trailer, starring Lily James and Armie Hammer. It’s been a while since I read the book but isn’t the second wife supposed to be “plain”? I’m not sure James qualifies. At least Kristen Scott Thomas seems to be having a blast as Mrs. Danvers.
