Adele Gets Ready for SNL

-Here’s our first look at Adele on SNL. I’m both looking forward to this episode and dreading the conversation about it.

–Jennifer Aniston posted a photo of her casting her election ballot early and she had a message for fans: “It’s not funny to vote for Kanye. I don’t know how else to say it. Please be responsible.”

-In a podcast interview, Jennifer Lawrence says it took her a while to get over falling at the Oscars. “I can look back at it now fondly but for a very long time the fall thing was very sensitive. Anderson Cooper, I saw him on CNN three days later saying, ‘Well she obviously faked the fall,’ and it was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to give a speech like that again, so it didn’t feel good for me not to have a speech.”

-She also said her husband doesn’t mind that she kicks him to the guest room when she has “slumber parties, like, once a week” with her friends. In a pandemic tho?

-This year has been rough, but the ladies of pop are determined to get us through it by releasing new music. First came Taylor, then Demi, and now Ariana Grande.  With just 10 days to go before the U.S. election, she’s offering us a vision of what life would be like if she were in charge in her new video for “Positions”.

–Miley Cyrus is also getting in on the action, announcing a new album that’ll be released Nov 27.

–Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith continue to be the best celebrity couple.

–Matthew McConaughey talked to Howard Stern about how his mom repeatedly sold him out once he became famous. He’s incredibly forgiving.

-The funniest thing about Robert Downey Jr.‘s post supporting Chris Pratt is that he cropped Tom Holland out of the photo. They’re so close that they have … literally no photos together.

–Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on GMA, along with Borat 2 costar Maria Bakalova, and talked about the scene with Rudy Giuliani. “If the president’s lawyer found what he did there appropriate behavior then heaven knows what he’s doing with other female journalists in hotel rooms. I just urge everyone to watch the movie. It is what it is. He did what he did.” He added that he was “quite concerned” for Bakalova during the scene because he was hiding nearby and monitoring the situation via text. “It’s my responsibility as a producer as well to ensure that the lead actor is looked after.”

–Christine Baranski plays Scrooge to Dolly Parton‘s angel in the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming holiday musical Christmas on the Square.

-Speaking of Netflix holiday movies, the Dash & Lily trailer is super cute.

-So we’re still pretending that Paul Greengrass‘ News of the World, starring Tom Hanks, is coming out in theatres at Christmas, huh?

-Meanwhile, there’s lots of whispers about the studio behind James Bond shopping it to streaming sites and the numbers floating around are insane — like 200-600 million dollars insane.

–Kaley Cuoco may be a murderer in the trailer for The Flight Attendant, coming to HBO Max and Crave next month.

Shonda Rhimes’ Power Moves

-In her THR cover story, Shonda Rhimes talks about leaving ABC (she says her breaking point came when she tried to get an extra all-inclusive pass to Disneyland for a trip she took with her kids and sister and a high-ranking exec asked her “Don’t you have enough?”), talks about setting expectations with Netflix (“The first thing I said was, ‘You’re not going to get another Grey’s Anatomy — not Grey’s Anatomy in a cornfield, Grey’s Anatomy on a baseball field or Grey’s Anatomy at an airport, that’s just not happening’ “), and the culture shock of being at the streaming service (“The reason I came to Netflix is because I wanted to be able to make television without anybody bothering me. And as long as I get to keep making television without anybody bothering me, I’m happy”).

–Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and James Gunn took to social media to defend Chris Pratt. So they suddenly showed up when a meaningless throwaway Twitter poll voted him the worst Chris, but stayed silent when Brie Larson was facing hate and brutal boycott campaign from fanboys for being Captain Marvel and advocating for diversity? Screw them.

-Welp, Quibi is dead. Jeffrey Katzenberg is calling investors to tell them he’s shutting the company down, sources tell the Wall Street Journal. They’ll likely blame it on the pandemic and not the atrocious rollout or the fact that we are at the saturation point with streaming services.

–Jennifer Lawrence says her biggest regret about getting married last year is she didn’t have a big bachelorette party.

–Dolly Parton sang a few lines of “Bury Me Beneath The Willow” on the Late Show last night and it made Stephen Colbert cry. I loved her reaction: “I better hush before you cry yourself to death and we can’t finish the show.”

-I loved this chat between Jamie Lee Curtis and Neve Campbell about their reigns as scream queens.

-Legally Blonde 3’s new release date has been confirmed. I’m skeptical we’ll be back in theatres by then, but you do you, Hollywood.

-The reviews for The Witches are in, and it sounds very, very bad. Too bad; I was ready to watch Anne Hathaway ham it up.

-Another movie that isn’t faring well with critics is Netflix’s Rebecca remake mostly because the film portrays the central relationship as straightforwardly romantic, rather than tragic or toxic. The fact that this is how they depict the last scene makes it clear they had no idea what the book was actually about.

-Speaking of reviews, critics seem mixed on Borat 2. But the only thing everyone seems to agree on is the Rudy Giuliani segment is unbelievably uncomfortable. Apparently he follows Borat’s “daughter” into a hotel room and it’s … not good. The screengrab that’s floating around Twitter looks bad enough.

–Jared Leto will play the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, just in case you needed more convincing to skip it.

–Scott Speedman has joined the cast of You for season 3. I’m really happy for him, but my heart won’t be able to take it if he turns into a murder buddy for Joe.

–Jann Arden‘s sitcom is going to stream in the US on Hulu. Between this and her singing the Dawson’s Creek theme song when it hits Netflix, is this the year of Jann in America? Let’s hope! (She did a Cameo for my friend’s birthday this week and it was the best one I’ve ever seen.)

–Ariana Grande and Adele stans are not happy because they don’t understand how Twitter works.

-Normal People star Daisy Edgar Jones has been cast as Kyra, the lead in the film adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing. I still haven’t finished that book — not because it’s bad but just because it was too heavy for my brain in 2020.

-Netflix will campaign Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis in the lead actor and actress categories for their Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom performances. They’ll also submit Boseman for supporting actor in Da 5 Bloods.

-The first trailer for Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon is gorgeous.

–Megan Thee Stallion is on the cover of W Magazine’s Music issue. She talks about racism (“You know, anything can go viral, so I really like how we’re able to catch these people doing these disgusting things and put ’em on blast, and people are getting fired from their jobs. It’s like, Yeah, we see you. You like to be disgusting in private, so let us show you how to keep that same energy in public. I like that we get to call everybody out now”), and cyberbulling (“It’s really mind-blowing to see the nasty things that people say to you. I don’t know if people think you not gon’ see it. I feel like just being an artist, waking up every day, voicing your own opinions is a risk… Just talking. Being real is a risk”).

–Cardi B has no interest in Tiger King star Carol Baskin‘s criticism of “WAP”, saying “I’m not gonna engage with Carole Baskin on that. Like, that’s just ridiculous you know? Oh, Lord. Like, girl you killed your goddamn husband.”

–Taika Waititi wished Chris Hemsworth a happy birthday — by tweeting a photo of his brother.

–Miley Cyrus appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast and opened up about her sex life. She says the first time she “went all the way with a dude” it was with Liam Hemsworth when she was 16, but he didn’t know. “I lied and said he wasn’t the first so I didn’t seem like a loser.”

-She also confirmed that she and Cody Simpson have split.

–Dolly Parton continues to be a gem. She’s funding covid research, vocal about BLM, supporting childhood literacy and now in her Billboard cover story, she talks about removing the word “Dixie” from Dollywood. “As soon as you realize that [something] is a problem, you should fix it. Don’t be a dumbass. That’s where my heart is. I would never dream of hurting anybody on purpose.” She also says “Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter?”

–Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter cameo in the new Weezer video.

–Brad Pitt’s lawyers slammed Angelina Jolie for requesting to disqualify the judge in their upcoming child custody trial, saying she’s delaying the case and “depriving” the kids of a “final resolution.”

–Edgar Wright was adamant that Scott Pilgrim shoot in Toronto. “Proud to have shot Toronto for Toronto after decades of the city subbing in for NYC in tons of comic book movies. Couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for my first North American film. Love it & miss it.”

–Chrissy Teigen announced she’s pregnant by debuting her baby bump in John Legend’s new music video.

-A commenter told Kelly Clarkson that her marriage failed because she’s too busy, and she was not having it.

–Drake dropped a new video for “Laugh Now Cry Later,” shot a Nike HQ and featuring Lil Durk, Odell Beckham Jr., Marshawn Lynch and Kevin Durant.

-I absolutely agree with this take on why gritty reboots are not what TV viewers need right now. I made it through Perry Mason because the cast was so stacked, but what a slog.

–January Jones‘ social media posts continue to awe and amaze me.

-Schitt’s Creek star Noah Reid got married last month and shared his wedding photos on Insta.

-Speaking of wild social media posts, Nick Jonas took us on a journey.

–Kaia Gerber and Cara Delevingne already have matching tattoos, and it’s punny.

-I’ve never watched Lucifer but Tom Ellis seems like a super solid guy.

–This video on how to make a blockbuster movie trailer is perfection.

-DC television is basically hosting their own virtual Comic Con tomorrow with DC Fandome.
