Jennifer Aniston: “I’m Not Heartbroken”

-In an Instyle interview with her pal Molly McNearney — Jimmy Kimmel‘s wife — Jennifer Aniston talks about her recent divorce from Justin Theroux (“The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken. First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors”), shooting a film with Dolly Parton (“She’s magic”), and a possible Friends reunion (“I fantasize about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted.”)

-I’m loving that that cast of Crazy Rich Asians is getting magazine covers. I’m rooting for this movie to make a million kajillion dollars.

–Topher Grace does this thing where he edits down movie franchises into one concise cut. (His Star Wars prequel edit is legendary.) Now That 70s Show star has blessed the world with a 2-hour version of The Hobbit trilogy.

–Chris Hardwick is not just returning to work following those sexual assault allegations, he’s picking up more gigs. Besides his Talking Dead job, he’ll host The Wall and is set to appear as a guest judge on AGT after.

–Seth Rogen has confirmed Judd Apatow‘s story that he was the one who told Tom Cruise that you can watch porn on the internet. “I mean, I can’t remember — it was like 12 years ago or something like that. I think generally my reaction was, ‘You are a very sheltered man.'”

-Set It Up’s Glen Powell will be in Top Gun 2 after all, just in a different role. I wonder if this is in response to the social media outcry after Miles Teller got the original gig over him?

-These photos of Reese Witherspoon throwing ice cream at Meryl Streep on the set of Big Little Lies has me *very* excited for season 2.

-Everyone is pissed that Jennifer Lopez will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs instead of Missy Elliot. Except, apparently, Missy Elliot.

-I tried to watch the first season of The Sinner but I thought it was horrible (and not because of Jessica Biel, surprisingly!). But the second season arrives this week with good reviews — and the presence of Carrie Coon, who makes everything better.

-Oh ffs. Hollywood is now rebooting ALF.

-Despite a cast letter asking for James Gunn to be reinstated as the director of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, Disney is not planning on rehiring the filmmaker after offensive tweets from his past resurfaced. “I don’t see Disney re-hiring him,” says one person close to the matter tells Variety.

–Ian Somerhalder says he could no longer be part of the The Vampire Diaries cast’s group text because he’s a father now and can’t be bothered by people’s silly emojis. Sure.

-It’s a good day for listicles if you’re a TV fan. The Ringer pulled together the best 100 episodes of the century (gotta say, I didn’t predict The OC pilot beating Breaking Bad’s “Ozymandias,” but I dig it!), while  TV Insider chose the 65 best episodes of the 21st century (another good list, but who picks Buffy’s musical over “The Body”?!).

-Wait, so Anna Wintour is NOT leaving Vogue? And she may have pulled a Miranda Priestly? That’s delicious!

–Oscar Isaac and Mélanie Laurent star in the Operation Finale trailer.

Jennifer Lopez Celebrates Birthday with Champers and Abs

–Jennifer Lopez turned 49 and celebrated like this. Not all superheroes wear capes.

-Once I realized the writer of Gwyneth Paltrow’s NYT profile was Taffy Brodesser-Akner, I knew it was going to be good — but it’s so, so good! Sure, there’s topical quotes on the backlash to her “conscious uncoupling” announcement (“I think that was an instance where it really hit me that an insouciance with language from me is different than from somebody else”) and her relationship with Harvey Weinstein (“The one time that Harvey propositioned me was really almost the least of it in terms of how onerous that relationship was’). But the real meat of it is Brodesser-Akner’s examination of her strategy. Paltrow talks about getting more blog hits every time someone criticizes Goop’s ludicrous advice and products (“I can monetize those eyeballs”) and how she parted ways with Condé Nast when it came to publishing the Goop magazine because they had “old school”  rules like insisting articles be fact-checked.

-Meanwhile, Dr. Jen Gunter, one of Paltrow’s most vocal critics, had some thoughts on the article: “Paltrow monetizes the vagina, which is what I have called her out for. Women are harmed by the perpetuation of vaginal myths. It’s internet traffic for her. It’s women crying to me.”

–Demi Moore and Ed Helms might be dating? Really????

–Natasha Rothwell (who plays the amazing Kelli on Insecure and stole the entire movie in Love Simon) just signed on to Wonder Woman 1984.

-This deep-dive into Leonardo DiCaprio‘s new obsession with beach volleyball slayed me.

-There’s a new Netflix show that’s being called Gossip Girl meets Big Little Lies and it’s like they’ve crafted it out of my brain’s source code.

-People titled their latest cover story “Inside the Mysteries of Tom Cruise’s Life at 56″ but they really don’t delve into any mysteries, instead opting for a softball profile.

-A Frasier revival with Kelsey Grammer is in the works? For real? Come on, Hollywood. At least pretend to try.

-Comic-Con behind-the-scene videos always offer fascinating glimpses on how castmembers react when they are together offset. The Flash ladies seem a little, um, tense. On the other end of the spectrum, the Arrow cast is super touchy-feely.

-AMC had cleared Chris Hardwick to return to Talking Dead on Aug 12 after their investigation into sexual assault claims by ex-girlfriend.

-At the first day of the TCAs, HBO confirmed that the long-awaited Deadwood movie is finally happening: “It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together, but we are there. It is greenlit.”

-Meanwhile, the HBO boss defended Westworld after the critical backlash: ‘It’s not for casual viewers.’ (He probably could have dropped the word ‘casual’.)

-Also at the HBO panel, Jenni Konner addressed her split from producing partner Lena Dunham after they ended an eight-year partnership: “There’s no drama.”

-At the Facebook on-demand panel, things got combative when reporters pressed them to defend their decision to include Fox News and Infowars on their platform.

–Peter Dinklage and Elle Fanning star in the apocalypse drama I Think We’re Alone Now.

-Here’s the trailer for mid90s, which is written and directed by Jonah Hill. It’s got a Florida Project vibe, but more brutal.

–Hilary Swank struggles with a parent suffering from Alzheimer’s in the trailer for What They Had, which is coming to TIFF.

 

Harvey Weinstein Breaks His Silence

–Harvey Weinstein just broke his silence (oh goodie) according to quotes in The Spectator, in which he blames his women troubles on being ugly and says “Yes, I did offer them acting jobs in exchange for sex, but so did and still does everyone. But I never, ever forced myself on a single woman.” His lawyer was quick to step in, saying “Mr. Weinstein never said anything about trading movie roles for sexual favors. You have my word that Harvey did not say that.” The writer has since walked back the quote, saying “We were discussing Hollywood and I may have misunderstood certain things about the methods of that place” — though the quotes are still up on the Spectator’s website.

-Over 40 celebs, including Rose McGowan, Paz de la Huerta, Terry Crews, Mira Sorvino, and Anthony Rapp, signed an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times asking people to stop blaming Asia Argento for boyfriend Anthony Bourdain’s death.

–Henry Cavill has been shamed into an apology for his stupid #MeToo statements (though he took pains to point out that “This experience has taught me a valuable lesson as to the context and the nuance of editorial liberties” cause, you know, saying a flirt can be confused for a rapist is clearly something that can be misquoted and taken out of context by those meanie journalists!)

-Speaking of taking action after a public shaming, Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of the movie in which she was set to depict a trans man.

-Did Ariana Grande just sweep in late to claim the song of the summer? ‘Cause that video is kinda everything.

-I don’t even go here, but it’s pretty neat that Downton Abbey’s original cast will reunite for a big screen movie adaption.

-The timeline Amanda Seyfried tries to portray in regards to her relationship with Thomas Sadoski doesn’t quite line up, does it?

-I keep forgetting that Neil Gaiman is adapting Good Omens for TV, and then every time I’m reminded it’s like Christmas morning all over again!

-No, YOU cried over this video of Jonathan Van Ness reacting to his double Emmy noms for Queer Eye and Gay of Thrones.

–Yvette Nicole Brown is going to step in to host The Walking Dead preview special as AMC “works to complete our assessment related to Chris Hardwick.”

–Joss Whedon is returning to TV full-time with HBO’s straight-to-series sci-fi Victorian drama The Nevers. HBO reportedly beat out Netflix to nab the series. I know he’s problematic af, but I just can’t help but be intrigued…

–Miley Cyrus just went social media dark. Either she’s about to announce a new project, or she’s just tired of competing with Will Smith’s hilarious video edits.

-I get the biggest smile whenever I read this Vulture reporter’s interviews with Sandra Oh.  They’re just so cute with each other!

–Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl album is turning 30. I watched the new Whitney doc last night (which is so, so good!) and there was the best Abdul slam in it. My theatre collectively gasped.

-The Bay suddenly pulled all Ivanka Trump products due to “performance.”

–Michael Pena fights aliens in Netflix’s Extinction.

–Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick strike up an unlikely friendship in Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor.
