Renee Zellweger Tackles Gender Inequality

-This is a good profile on Renee Zellweger. It’s one thing for a paparazzi-baiting celeb like Jennifer Aniston to complain about the scrutiny surrounding her, but it’s more powerful when it comes from someone who self-exiled themselves from the spotlight for six years. I especially liked this part: “This conversation perpetuates the problem. Why are we talking about how women look? Why do we value beauty over contribution? We don’t seem to value beauty over contribution for men. It’s simply not a conversation.”

-On the flip side, Gabrielle Carteris is petitioning to keep ages off IMDB, saying that she wouldn’t have been Andrea on 90210 if a casting director could find her real age online. I’m not sure lying about aging is going to help with gender inequality.

–Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart have split — about four years after we all expected them to.

–Leslie Jones’ personal website was hacked and nude photos, passport, and passwords were posted online. This is bullshit. What was her crime? Starring in a summer movie while being a black female? Paul Feig has spoken out against it; I really hope her GB costars get vocal soon too.

-This preview of Britney Spears’ Carpool Karaoke edition has me worried. James Corden has said that they tape these things for hours, and this is the best they could edit down to 30 seconds? Her pretending to sing and not getting his jokes? Ooh boy.

-Unlike his Mr Robot character, Rami Malek can’t code or type, but he did manage to post his first Instagram selfie with Stephen Colbert’s help.

-The Affair costars Joshua Jackson and Ruth Wilson went to a restaurant together — for 8 hours! No judgement. If I were her, I’d extend that meal as long as possible too. (“You’re cool if I order a fourth entree, right?”)

–Bella Thorne is one of those people who I can never, ever place (even though I’ve watched The Duff an embarrassing amount of times. Like, a mortifying amount). But now that she’s come out as bi weeks after splitting with her bf and now may be dating her brother’s ex-girlfriend, I guess I should start paying attention.

-Oh, and the next day it’s announced that she is executive producing a Lifetime TV movie. Got it.

–John Krasinski says he might’ve played Captain America if he wasn’t so intimidated by the swole Chris Hemsworth.

-Also, Krasinski says he’d rather Emily Blunt this he was watching porn than have her realize he was watching Devil Wears Prada for the 75th time.

-“I don’t assume that people know who I am.” Beck, reminding us why we love him.

-Look, I like Michael Strahan just fine. He seems like a nice guy and I think my mom has a crush on him. But the way ABC keeps going all in with him confuses me. He just sold a script to them about a former football star who joins the Miami police force. Like, a drama script!

–Courteney Cox ran wild with Bear Grylls and discussed her divorce from David Arquette, her “brutal” temporary split from Johnny McDaid and her plastic surgery regrets.

–Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston had a fight? Heavens!

-Not sure we need to know that Naya Rivera got an abortion during her day off from Glee, but here we are.

-I love that Keira Knightley revealed that she’s been wearing wigs for years. I feel like 90% of female celebrities are wearing other people’s hair, while we spiral in hair envy about them.

-I could listen to Kevin Bacon talk about feminist theory forever.

-Whenever I see a Victoria Beckham dress design that I love, I get so confused/surprised.

-The first trailer for Kenneth Lonergan’s drama Manchester By the Sea is here, starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler. I’m basically planning my entire TIFF schedule around this movie.

Chris Evans’ Puppy Pushups

–John Krasinski challenged Chris Evans and Miles Teller (ugh) to the #22PushUpChallenge, and Chris’ response features the most adorable dog distraction ever!

-You know what’s nuts? After that totally gross video that came out on Friday of Johnny Depp hurling a wine glass at Amber Heard, I still saw people on Twitter cape for him. I don’t get it. Let’s see what they say now that TMZ is reporting he once accidentally cut off the tip of his finger while fighting with her, then wrote on the wall in blood “Billy Bob” – the name of the actor he was accusing her of cheating on him with. Charming.

-Also, I appreciated this article on how Heard and Lindsay Lohan suffer from being imperfect victims.

–Justin Bieber has threatened to make his Instagram private if commenters don’t stop attacking his new lady, Sofia Richie (who is Lionel Richie‘s daughter. You know who I found out this weekend is NOT actually Lionel Richie’s daughter? Nicole Richie. #MindBlown)

–Justin‘s pleas for civility somehow led to a pissing contest between him and Selena Gomez, with her insinuating he cheated — and him shooting back with “oh I forgot about you and Zayn?” Not surprisingly, their fans spent the weekend having meltdowns.

–Thomas Gibson is reporting mulling a lawsuit over his Criminal Minds firing. I guess that explains why his statement didn’t include an apology.

-Meanwhile, his ex-costar Shemar Moore is subtweeting him. (Also, I’m now going to end every Instagram video with “church is over.”)

–Jared Padalecki got bad service from a waitress — so he posted a photo of her face to his 3M followers. And then he defended the post by comparing people who say he shouldn’t complain to people who say he shouldn’t be depressed. Nope, nope, all the nopes. You don’t get to play any of those cards, Dean.

–This is a great read about how Mr Robot isn’t getting the critical reception this summer of Netflix shows like Stranger Things and The Get Down, but at least it’s trying something completely different.

-Speaking of Stranger Things, this interview/lovefest between Aaron Paul and the little girl who plays Eleven is all kinds of adorable. And then his wife jumps on the phone so she can fangirl too? Kill me now.

-Bad word of mouth resulted in a huge Batman V Superman-like box office drop in Suicide Squad’s second weekend. So why is WB still heavily investing in Zack Snyder’s vision of the DCEU?

-Lowly movie studio employees are rising up. First we got last week’s open letter to the WB and now the comments section of an interview with the directors of Sausage Party was overrun with anonymous sources claiming animators were reportedly forced to work for free and generally treated like poo. (I saw the film over the weekend. I thought it was just meh.)

–Tom Hiddleston is blaming the deluge of photos of him with Taylor Swift on the fact that “we all live in a world where every phone has a camera.” Sure, but do we also all live in a world where everyone has long-lensed professional cameras on remote beaches?

–The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore was canceled today, which sucks because they’re not even going to get to cover the election. It’s not exactly surprising giving its lack of ratings and buzz.  Wilmore released a statement about “The Unblackening” of the Comedy Network.

-This is weak sauce: Adele says she was approached by the Super Bowl to do the next halftime show and declined, so the NFL and Pepsi ran to Billboard with a statement about how there was no “formal” offer. Yeah. Because she declined.

–Bella Thorne and Gregg Sulkin split after more than a year together. I have no idea who either of these people are, but my Twitter timeline is devastated. Sorry?

-Congrats to Kevin Hart, who married longtime girlfriend Eniko Parrish on Saturday.

–Natalie Portman gushing about French women sounds like me every time I visit France.

-Is it weird that these photos make me want to party with Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus?

-This is such a good look at Nate Parker’s problematic past and how that may (or should?) change our view of Birth of a Nation.

–Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard are oh so pretty in the Allied trailer.

-The untold story of NASA’s genius black women gets the spotlight in the Hidden Figures trailer, starring Taraji P. Henson.

–Melissa McCarthy looks awesome on the cover of Redbook, where she talks about feminism, body image, and fashion.

-The international Ghostbusters trailer has way more Chris Hemsworth. Seems like a misread of the room.

-Meanwhile, director Paul Feig is defending Leslie Jones’s Ghostbusters character.

–Mariah Carey saying “I still don’t know her” about Jennifer Lopez is giving me life. Bless you, Mimi!

-I really didn’t think Bella Thorne would be the voice of reason in the feud between Kim Kardashian and Chloe Grace Moretz. Huh.

–Mischa Barton is joining the new season of DWTS. What a time to be alive!

-I could read about the weird connections between new odd couple Selma Blair and David Foster all day.

-I’ve got nothing but love for the fact that Amy Schumer’s new book is called The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo.

–Padma Lakshmi admits she didn’t know the paternity of her daughter for a time. I don’t know why we all needed to know that, but speak your truth lady!

-Looks like Supergirl is getting renewed. God, do I have to start watching it again? Someone tell me if it got better…

-I spend the entire time watching The People vs OJ Simpson being fascinated by what John Travolta is doing — but unsure of whether it’s terrific or horrible. Either way, it’s pretty damn enjoyable to watch…as is Max Greenfield’s impression of him.

-I still can’t really wrap my head around a movie where Sally Field and Max Greenfield play a couple, but I’m intrigued.

-Fringe’s Anna Torv just joined David Fincher’s new Netflix series. I heart her and never understood why she hasn’t hit bigger, so this is good.

-It’s International Women’s Day. Celebrate with Connie Britton’s secret weapon.

-Speaking of awesome ladies, Emma Watson dares you to call her “difficult” “feminazi” or “first world feminist.”

-This TV blind item had my entire Twitter feed buzzing today.

–Casey Affleck is not having a good week. Stay away from the back tattoos, Casey!

-I have no interest in watching A&E’s Damien, but I love how they made up their writers room.

-Is anyone even a little bit surprised that IMDB’s rating system is allegedly “completely and irrevocably rigged”?

-The new Game Of Thrones trailer has arrived (featuring a boss cover of “Wicked Game” by James Vincent McMorrow).
