Avril Lavigne

Did Katy Perry Copy An Idea for Her Music Video?

-A video director is accusing Katy Perry of ripping him off.

-That ‘Avril Lavigne is dead‘ conspiracy theory resurfaced again this weekend. It’s like it’s 2015 all over again.

-It looks like that Vogue cover is already working: Elle Fanning is the new face of L’Oréal Paris.

Drake chaperoned his cousin’s prom. More importantly, she and her date wore matching outfits!

-Ruh roh. Hackers are reportedly threatening to release an upcoming Disney movie online if they’re not paid a ransom.

-This article about how The Leftovers’ Damon Lindelof wrote an episode of the show inspired by Vulture’s TV critic left me gobsmacked and a little teary. Definitely worth reading.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum remembers the time she dated Justin Timberlake: “It’s not as salacious as everyone thinks.”

-Yikes! Michelle Kwan learned of her husband’s divorce filing in a tweet “without warning.”

-Speaking of divorces, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has split from husband Riley Stears.

-In happier couples news, Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons married his longtime partner Todd Spiewak over the weekend in New York City.

Arcade Fire reportedly debuted half a dozen new songs at a secret show in Montreal over the weekend.

-Here’s an oral history of SNL’s epic season, made even better by a hilarious photo shoot.

-Speaking of oral histories, everyone’s talking about this juicy one about The Strokes.

-King of Arthur: Legend of the Sword could lose $150 million. This has not been a good run for white male directors.

-I haven’t watched American Gods yet, but I LOL’d at this interview with Bryan Fuller about how he demanded a gay sex scene be reshot. “I was like, ‘Okay, unless he has a 12-inch, candy-cane c*ck and can f*ck around corners, his dick’s not getting in him. So you guys need to go back and figure out where holes are.”

-It’s upfronts week, which means a ton of TV news is breaking. Fox blasted ABC’s resurrection of American Idol as “extremely fraudulent,” renewed New Girl for a shortened final season, debuted the full trailers for their X-Men show The Gifted starring Amy Acke, and The Resident with Matt Czuchry and Emily Van Camp, confirmed The X Files will return next year and cancelled Scream Queens (though 24: Legacy and Prison Break may live on).

-Speaking of cancelled shows, NBC did the unthinkable and reversed their decision about Timeless’ cancellation. It had more to do with renegotiated ownership stakes than fan outcry, but it’s still sure to give fandoms false hope for years to come.

-Speaking of fandoms, this is a good read on why the cancellation of diverse, female-friendly shows is a tough pill to stomach.

-NBC also ordered a new show starring Mae Whitman and Retta, which is already my favourite. They also debuted the new Will & Grace promo which…ok.

-No, YOU cried watching this video of the This Is Us cast surprising fans.

-Bravo greenlit a new series called All That Glitters about Anna Wintour & Tina Brown‘s rise in publishing and I want it NOW.

-In honour of upfronts, a former TV Guide and Variety writer lays out why each network sucks. Up first, Fox and NBC: “[Fox’s ratings are]  that guy with a tiny dick telling you he grows 100% if you just give him a chance (a.k.a. Live+7).”

Felicity from Arrow can sing? (I’m not sure why she’s wasting her talents on Maroon 5 covers, but still.)

Jason Bateman says he signed on for a new season of Arrested Development on Netflix, so I guess that’s a thing.

-The official trailer for Glow, Netflix’s show about 80’s lady wrestlers, is out.

Avril Lavigne Annouces Split from Chad Kroeger on Instagram

http://instagram.com/p/7I5TTpo4M0/

Avril Lavigne is the latest celebrity to prove she doesn’t need to release statements through official channels. She just announced the end of her two-year marriage to Chad Kroeger via Instagram.

-Here’s a closer look at Sandra Bullock’s new boyfriend. Four for you, girl!

Emma Thompson continues to give interviews that should become required reading for all humans. Her bit about women who don’t call themselves feminists is particularly inspired.

-Simmer down, E! News. Just because Robert Pattinson happened to be at the same place as a wedding, doesn’t mean he “crashed” it.

-The 007 author apologized about calling Idris Elba “street” and said it had nothing to do with race (which, if you read his full interview, you’d have guessed). But what about Idris not being “sauve” enough? That’s the apology-needing bit, IMO.

-Meanwhile, Idris Elba and Cary Fukunaga cover Variety and tell harrowing tales of almost dying during Beast of No Nations’s shoot in Ghana.

Gisele Bundchen threatened Tom Brady with divorce, which may explain their sudden PDA. This is why I always side eye articles that say nothing except how cozy a couple is. Like this one.

Next year’s Oscars will have two hosts, because the Anne Hathaway/James Franco debacle has taught us nothing. Unless it’s Amy Schumer and Chris Pratt, I don’t want to hear about it.

-This is a pretty fascinating story about what a mess the fall TV season is, and nothing has even premiered yet. There’s been a crazy amount of firings, recastings and showrunner swaps already.

-Nothing makes me laugh harder than the people on Twitter who are SO MAD about the all the press Kermit and Miss Piggy’s “split” is getting. Yeah, it’s basically just a promo for their new show, but the back and forth is also a clever commentary on celebrity coverage. I bet those Twitter complainers are the same people who point out that wrestling is fake…

-No matter what’s going on with Kermit, Miss Piggy is keeping busy, whether she’s flirting with Liam Hemsworth or helping the Agent Carter cast in their first installment of the #DubSmashWars (scroll down to see the video).

-I like all the words in this headline: “Helena Bonham Carter to Star in Nick Hornby Adaptation of ‘Love, Nina’ for BBC.”

-Hmmm…I’m conflicted about a lot of the words in this headline: “Cate Blanchett to Play Lucille Ball in Biopic Written by Aaron Sorkin.” I mean, surely they could have gotten somebody, anybody other than Sorkin? My faith in his ability to write female characters was nuked by The Newsroom.

Jimmy Kimmel‘s war against the gaming community is getting very meta.

-On good thing about Mr Robot’s finale being delayed is that it allowed Remi Malek an extra week to do promotion. He was adorable on Kimmel last night, explaining why he owes his role to Emmy Rossum.

Greg Berlanti is soon going to be responsible for every show on TV. But his new one sounds like it has a Hocus Pocus vibe, so I’m in!

Bryan Cranston compared being famous to being a pregnant woman, which is both hilarious and apt.

-I’ve seen a lot of shows on Vulture’s top 100 list. Like, A LOT. I should probably go outside at some point…

-Wait, Rosie O’Donnell is dating Tatum O’Neil?

-I was going to attempt an X Files rewatch before the reboot, but these super fast Vine recaps may be the better solution.

-I somehow managed to get TIFF tickets to Sicario. This new clip makes me think I’ll be watching it from behind my fingers.

Michael Fassbender rises to power in the new Macbeth trailer.

Sony Exec Calls Angelina Jolie a “Spoiled Brat”

-Please tell me you’ve read the hacked emails from Sony execs Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin fighting over Jobs and Cleopatra! If and when those movies get made, I guarantee they still won’t be as entertaining as the emails about them. Rudin (who, by all accounts, isn’t exactly sweetness and rainbows himself), calls Angelina Jolie a “minimally talented spoiled brat.” And that’s just the beginning!

-In other weirdness that has surfaced as a result of the hack, Sony is planning a Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover. Oh, and they have no idea what they’re doing with Spider-Man. Also, there’s a hilarious email trail about Seth Rogen complaining about having to edit The Interview (but it’s spoiler-y).

-It turns out that Diddy and Drake‘s big fight was about the song “0 to 100/ The Catch Up” which was just nominated for two Grammys. Yawn. Turns out if Drake isn’t fighting over Rihanna, I don’t care.

-Here’s another plausible– if incredibly depressing — Serial theory.

-Despite my conflicting feelings about it, Fargo is probably going to end up on my Top 10 list of the year (coming soon!) because it was just so damn different. Next year is shaping up to be even better: Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons (Landry!) just signed on.

Lena Dunham wrote an eye-opening piece about the disturbing response she’s gotten from writing about her sexual abuse.

Freida Pinto and Dev Patel have broken up after six years together and love is dead.

-The Screen Actors Guild nominations were pretty underwhelming on the television front (with the exception of Tatiana Maslany finally being recognized). There were more shockers in the movie categories, including Selma and Gone Girl being snubbed, and the fact that Jennifer Aniston’s campaign actually worked. (I’m going to a Selma screening tonight that features a Q&A with the director and star — can’t wait!)

-In other movie award news, Harvey Weinstein suddenly remembered that he forgot to launch an Oscar campaign for The Immigrant, starring Marion Cotillard.

Scarlett Johansson is a big fan of breastfeeding. I hope that information somehow enriches your life.

Avril Lavigne has an undisclosed health problem but she doesn’t want to talk about it, mm-kay?

-This writer hilariously tried to lose a guy in 10 days like Kate Hudson did in the movie and it made me laugh so hard my sides now hurt.

-Speaking of Kate Hudson, it sounds like she and Derek Hough are actually a thing.

Aaron Paul continues to be the cutest, most loving husband ever.

Columbus Short blames his Scandal exit on his struggles with drug abuse. Gee, ya think?

-I really liked this defense of TV hatewatching. “No one truly hatewatches something they actually hate. What they hate is the execution, not the premise, which means that hatewatching is engaging with the potency of the idea versus the potency of its reality.”

-Speaking of shows that are hatewatched, Olivia Munn defended Aaron Sorkin‘s handling of the campus rape discussions.

-Also, Munn spent most of her Letterman interview trying not to flash the nation.

-Yay! Felicia Day wrote a book!

-Grantland’s oral history of Boogie Nights is not only an amazing read, it also looks super cool.

Martin Freeman has a dance party (and a tea party) in his new SNL promos.

Shonda Rhimes delivered a very powerful speech about glass ceilings at today’s THR Power Women event. It’s worth watching all eight minutes.

-Every year, The New York Times Magazine produces a series of videos that features famous people doing little scenes. This year’s nine smooch-filled vignettes includes romantic pairings between Benedict Cumberbatch and Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell and Laura Dern, Rosario Dawson and Jenny Slate, and Shailene Woodley and Jack O’Connell.

Mark Ruffalo interviewed Jessica Chastain and it was all kinds of charming.

-I really, really like the Foo Fighters‘ Sonic Highway show on HBO, but this critique of its lack of women is on point.

-The Mad Max: Fury trailer is chocked full of insanity. I want this movie in my eyeballs right now!
