Teen Vogue Introduces Us to The Next Big Things

TeenVogue-young hollywood_2018

-The fact that I had to look up almost half of the people featured on Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood Class of 2018 issue means I’m very, very old.

-On Colbert’s show last night, Donald Glover met the Girl Scout who used “Red Bone” to sell cookies and it was adorable.

-Man, Amy Schumer is sharing *a lot* about her wedding on social media. The dress still pains me, but this video of the wedding vows is very sweet. (I love the part where, after he pours his heart out in an emotional speech, she just mouths “f*ck.”)

-This thread about people freaking out when meeting someone famous made me smile.

-Speaking of things that made me smile today, there’s also this Funny or Die skit with Bradley Whitford playing an “emotional stuntman” who gets called in when actors can’t handle crying scenes. (“They’re not takes. They’re gifts.”)

-I can’t believe it took four days after that horrific CBC report for Hedley to finally announce they’ll be taking an “indefinite hiatus.”

-E! is reportedly holding Oscar red carpet prep “crisis meetings” in an attempt to have only “friendly” stars approach Ryan Seacrest to talk to live, according to Page Six. “There will be no Debra Messing moments this time around,” said a source.

-On their show today, Kelly Ripa  defended co-host Seacrest  without actually mentioning the assault allegations by saying, “I just want you to know that you are a privilege to work with and I adore you. I’m speaking on behalf of all of us here. I know what an easy, professional, great person you are, and I feel very very lucky to work with you each and every day.”

-Meanwhile,  Jimmy Kimmel says he has no plans to address the Me Too movement when he hosts the Oscars, saying “This show is not about reliving people’s sexual assaults.”

-There’s also lots of talk on Twitter that more stories about really powerful men in Hollywood are about to be published, including one about a TV “titan.

Quentin Tarantino‘s Sharon Tate movie is reportedly going ahead, and will star Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. No word on who will play Tate, despite the fact that she’s ostensibly who the movie is about…

-I really liked this interview with John Leguizamo, in which he talks about Latino representation in Hollywood.

-I stopped watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine but I might have to start again now that Gina Rodriguez has joined the cast and might be playing Rosa’s girlfriend.

-I’ve also given up on the new season of The X Files, but apparently last night’s episode was an excellent standalone that you can jump into without watching the others. The fact that Gillian Anderson tweeted about Scully’s vibrator afterwards has be intrigued.

-I also gave up on Scandal ages ago but the cast’s appearance on Ellen this week was very cute.

-The police were reportedly called to Tori Spelling’s house over a “domestic incident.”

-In a very, very clever Twitter exchange between Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel, the movie studio announced that Avengers: Infinity War’s release date would be pushed up a week to April 27 instead of May 4. It’s smart of Disney to move it further away from the release of it’s other big movie (Solo), as well as Deadpool 2.

Kristen Wiig is in talks to play the villain in Wonder Woman 2, which I kind of love.

-Here’s the trailer for Starz’ series SweetBitter. I really, really liked that book, which followed a new waitress training at one of NYC’s hottest restaurants.

Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy play lovers separated by a hostage taking (and a submarine) in the Submergence trailer.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Split

-I can honestly say I didn’t see this one coming: Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux announced they are separating after two years of marriage in a statement to The Associated Press. Saying the decision was “mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year” they added “Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.” My only wish is that this doesn’t kick off another round of “sad Jen” press. I’m already seeing Twitter fantasy shipping about a reunion with Brad Pitt.

-Good on The Cut for wondering a few days ago why Theroux was in NYC while Aniston was celebrating her 49th birthday in Malibu.

-Also, once again Aniston’s divorce announcement came after a couple-y vacation in Mexico.  She should probably stop going there.

-In happier celeb couples news, Amy Schumer and chef Chris Fischer (who is a James Beard winner!) had a surprise wedding in Malibu that was attended by Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston, Larry David and Judd Apatow. She shared some photos on Instagram.

-Whatever your opinion of Lena Dunham, her essay about making the decision to have a hysterectomy at 31 is stunning.

Michael B. Jordan showed off his love of ironing and housework has never looked this sexy.

-Remember how Jeffrey Tambor was insisting that he was still part of the Transparent cast? He’s officially been fired.

-There’s been so many thoughtful, important essays about Black Panther this week but I especially like this one.

-Now that Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes have jumped the broadcast TV ship and fled to Netflix, everyone is speculating about who’s next, with both THR and Vulture running stories today about possible showrunners Netflix may be targeting. But here’s a question that I’m glad someone’s asking: “Are Netflix shows any good?” There are certainly some gems (I recently binged and adored American Vandal), but there are also some stinkers. Quality doesn’t really seem to be a leading factor in deciding what they produce. And we’ve all seemed to accept that their originals, whether it’s OITNB or the Marvel shows, will have a lot of bloat in the middle of their seasons. Also, they certainly don’t seem to have any idea what to do with great performers like Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

-Here’s the new Ready Player One trailer. I love this book so hard but I’m still not convinced by these clips.

Manny Jacinto Finds His Good Place

This GQ feature on The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto (who plays Jason) is so very charming. I had no idea he was Canadian!

-Also, The Good Place cast sharing their favourite stories about Ted Danson is lovely. (He taught the girl who plays Tahini how to slow dance, and let Kristen Bell take him to an escape room.)

-Ahead of the Super Bowl, here’s @ira’s great take on Justin Timberlake’s glaring Time’s Up hypocrisy.

Amy Schumer weighed in on the allegation against her friend Aziz Ansari on a new podcast with Katie Couric. “If you have a doctor that makes you uncomfortable, or you get a massage, or you have a date with someone and they coerce you in a situation like the Aziz one, I don’t think there’s any sort of criminal charge, but I think that it’s good for everybody to learn that that behavior’s not acceptable. It’s not a crime, but it’s not cool. And it can still really mess with a woman.”

-Everyone is talking about how bizarre Rose McGowan’s interview with Colbert was, but I thought it was pretty much what was to be expected.

-Also, McGowan slammed her former Charmed costar Alyssa Milano (“I don’t like her, ’cause I think she’s a lie”) and expressed doubts about the Times Up movement.

Kate Upton has accused Guess co-founder Paul Marciano of “sexually and emotionally” harassing women.

-E!’s investigation into those Ryan Seacrest allegations have ended, and they found ‘insufficient evidence’ of misconduct.

-The lawsuit filed against Jim Carrey over the death of his girlfriend Cathriona White has been dismissed.

Robert Wagner has officially been named as a “person of interest” in Natalie Woods‘ death, nearly 40 years later.

-This interview with Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet, in which they talk about starring in coming-of-age movies, is incredibly charming, despite all their talk of “the craft” of acting.

-Also, it never occurred to me how much Lady Bird’s storyline is close (maybe too close?) to Real Women Have Curves.

-People are still not happy with JK Rowlings’ response about Dumbledore’s lack of gayness in the Fantastic Beasts sequel.  I just don’t get why they’d tease representation, only to take it away from fans?

Tom Cruise has joined Instagram. I’m scared.

-Vogue’s 73 Question videos are always great, but this one with Donatella Versace is next-level. (Also, I’ve been saying Versace all wrong…)

Sarah Jessica Parker says she was “heartbroken” when Kim Cattrall said they were never friends. She is so very Carrie Bradshaw-in-Mexico-post-wedding-nightmare in that clip.

-I’m not sure if Demi Lovato is actually trying to flirt with Henry Cavill on Instagram, but I support it anyway.

-This made me laugh forever: Lindsay Lohan‘s team thought Lisa Kudrow‘s The Comeback was a real reality show.

Shonda Rhimes’ tweet about “strong female leads” is perfect, and reminded me of an old article on the topic that I loved.

JJ Abrams is taking his new sci-fi drama to HBO. It’s the first TV script he’s written since Fringe.

-Black Panther is projected to make as much as $140 million on opening and that’s going to be a very big deal. Let’s hope it doesn’t come as a surprise to everyone.

-Between yesterday’s reboot announcement and this new photo of Brendan Fehr and Majandra Delfino, I’m having A LOT of Roswell feels this week…

-This interview with Michaela Coel (whose Netflix show is both weird and amazing) is a delight.

-I love Adam Devine and I love love love Robbie Amell, but the premise of their new Netflix romcom seems problematic.  But it’s from the same guy who did The Duff, where he managed to turn a questionable-sounding premise on its head and make it charming af, so who knows?
