Doja Cat Is Putting Dr. Luke Behind Her

–Doja Cat is on the January cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. I’ve seen pics and videos of this woman a hundred times and I still can’t pick her out of a lineup. Total face blindness when it comes to her. In the interview, she was asked about her working relationship with Dr. Luke, whom Kesha has accused of abuse. “I haven’t worked with him in a very long time. A lot of those songs were…. There’s shit that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.’ The point is he’s gotten some credit for shit. And, you know, it’s whatever. I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that…I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him.”

-Well. John Mulaney and Olivia Munn secretly welcomed their baby last month, according to TMZ.

-Actress Zoe Lister-Jones says Chris Noth was often drunk and inappropriate on the set of Law & Order.

-In light of the new allegations, Peleton has pulled their ad with Noth.

-Full reviews are still embargoed until Thursday, but the first reactions to The Matrix Resurrections hit Twitter and they are mostly glowing.

–Keanu Reeves showed up for the Toronto premiere last night. He’s the only celeb who can get away with not wearing a mask (at least he asked the crowd about it).

-Covid is messing up productions again. Both The Crown and Ghosts had to halt filming this week due to active cases on set.

-Meanwhile, Variety did a new story on covid affecting Hollywood and this paragraph has me wondering which two actresses they’re talking about: “Also in recent days, rumblings about two unvaccinated actresses has grown louder and more concerned — one up for Oscar contention in a prominent indie, the other the headliner of a December tentpole. The women continue to engage in publicity for their respective projects, some in person, which has alarmed the publicists and actors who are working the circuit alongside them.” The big tentpole moves out this month are really just Matrix, West Side Story and Spider-Man, no? Mayyyyybe Nightmare Alley and Don’t Look Up, but those feel like a stretch.

-When asked if he would ever consider guesting on girlfriend Zendaya‘s show Euphoria, Tom Holland said “Listen, I have been petitioning for this for a long time and it has not happened yet.” Make it work, HBO!

-I can’t stop watching the videos of Spider-Man crowd reactions. If I wasn’t so scared to leave my house again, I’d be there this weekend.

-Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home is poised to gross $200 million at the domestic box office, which is insane even in non-pandemic times.

–George Clooney was on Kimmel last night and Julia Roberts silently crashed his interview.

-She hasn’t posted yet, but Beyonce has joined TikTok.

–Reese Witherspoon‘s reaction to hearing that Matthew McConaughey used to have a crush on her is all kinds of cute.

–Eric Clapton continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. The latest: he successfully sued a woman who tried to sell a bootleg CD on eBay.

–Paul Rudd celebrates his fifth time hosting in this week’s SNL promos.

–Sarah Snook says Succession’s finale parking lot scene was horrible to shoot. “I’m in high heels, and it’s a 45-degree incline. There’s rocks and stones. It’s a tight dress, and my makeup is melting off. And now it’s windy.” The whole time I was watching it I was marveling at her ability to hold a squat in heels that long.

SZA Makes It To The Other Side

-I know she seems to hate it for some reason, but SZA’s Rolling Stone cover story is really good! She tries to temper expectations about her next release (“Music is coming out this year for sure. An album? Strong words”), talks about coming to terms with fame (“I’ve been in the airport on the way to see my grandmother on life support and [fans] are like, ‘‘Aw, girl, what are you doing here? Can I get this picture now?'”) and addresses the devastating loss of her grandmother (“I didn’t want to make music. I didn’t. I was just trying to not kill myself, and not quit, period. Because it was really fucking hard, and lonely as fuck”).

-She also released the video for “The Other Side,” her collab with Justin Timberlake for the Trolls World Tour soundtrack.

-The Johnny Depp apologists who were all over Twitter a couple of weeks ago seem strangely silent today. According to text messages read out in court this week, Depp once texted actor pal Paul Bettany: “Let’s burn Amber [Heard]…Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f–k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead.” Depp is in London for a preliminary hearing in his libel suit against British newspaper The Sun over an article that alleged Depp had been abusive to Heard. The texts were revealed in court after previous lawyers for Depp had accidentally shared 70,000 messages from and to the actor with The Sun’s legal team — by mistake!

–Prince Harry spoke at a conference for his sustainable travel initiative Travalyst in Edinburgh today and asked to just be called Harry.

–BTS‘ appearance on Carpool Karaoke was super cute. Dammit, I’m going to have to learn all their names and pick one to stan, aren’t I?

-Not surprisingly, Jennifer Garner‘s boyfriend John Miller is reportedly “uncomfortable” with Ben Affleck‘s candid interviews in which he keeps talking about how his biggest regret was their divorce.

–Adrien Brody is reportedly dating Marchesa fashion designer Georgina Chapman, who is Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife.

–George Clooney said he was “surprised and saddened” to learn of the investigation involving Nespresso farms and child labour. “Clearly this board and this company still have work to do.”

–Ryan Murphy‘s American Horror Story is not my jam, but that series has the best casting on TV today. Season’s 10 cast was just announced, with Macaulay Culkin joining Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Evan Peters.

-The latest Quibi trailer gives us blink-and-you’ll-miss-it looks at their new shows starring Anna Kendrick, Liam Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Sophie Turner, Will Forte, Bill Murray, Rachel Brosnahan, Laurence Fishburne, Chrissy Teigen, Don Cheadle and Lena Waithe.  The AV Club has a list of all the major offerings (so far).

–Steven Spielberg won’t direct Indiana Jones 5, with James Mangold in talks to replace him.

-The This Is Us cast is out here doing TikTok challenges.

–Hilary Duff shaded Disney+, implying the Lizzie McGuire revival is on hold because it was considered too mature for the streaming service.

–Taylor Swift is releasing a new video tomorrow for “The Man” – which she directed. It’s my least favourite song on the album because it’s so very on the nose but I’m interested in what she does behind the camera.

-I have no interest in watching Amazon’s Hunters starring Al Pacino so I read this spoilery review. The big twist sounds hella dumb.

-The people behind Invisible Man created a bunch of scary stunts for the junket. I hate this. These things are stressful enough; journalists are just trying to do their jobs.

-This whole thread about nice celebrity encounters made me happy.

–Octavia Spencer plays a millionaire in a new trailer for the upcoming Netflix series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.

Beyonce Takes Questions from Fans

–Beyonce did an interview! Kinda! She answered questions in Elle that were sent in via email and social media. And she almost certainly answered them via email. Ok, so not really an interview at all then but still! Beyonce speaks! The topics range from everything from shopping at Target to giving to charities to surviving miscarriages.

-People are really upset that Lizzo showed off her butt at the Lakers game with a thong dress. I mean, it got her name trending just as she was dropping a new video so good on her?

–Chrissy Teigen did an impromptu Twitter Q&A session and she was remarkably candid about celeb life, opening up about hired help, free clothing, secret social accounts, paparazzi and more.

–Daisy Ridley is getting a lot of (justified) flack for her obliviousness and confusion when an interviewer asked her about her privilege.

-The Golden Globes are always dumb but this morning’s nominations were especially dumb. No women were nominated for best director or screenplay. On the TV side, they somehow loved The Morning Show and Catch-22 but shut out Watchmen, Veep, Barry, When They See Us and Schitt’s Creek. A huge surprise was Cats getting shut out of the major categories even though the HFPA screened it — and it seemed like the perfect film for the Golden Globes.

-I watched A Marriage Story and while I refuse to get sucked into the ‘whose side was it on?’ conversation, I can wholeheartedly say that my favourite bit was this Merritt Wever scene: part 1, part 2.

–Miley Cyrus, who’s in the middle of getting a divorce from Liam Hemsworth, got a new tattoo that says “Freedom.”

-God bless Pajiba for reminding us all of the time Adrien Brody bought a castle for Elsa Pataky, then they did a 35-page spread exclusive for Hello! about it, then she dumped him for Chris Hemsworth.

-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is asking the filmmakers behind Richard Jewell to release a statement acknowledging it took dramatic license when it portrayed their journalist Kathy Scruggs as trading sex for scoops. I’m actually surprised that Olivia Wilde, who plays the late Scruggs, has been defending the movie’s use of this tired, terrible trope, seeing as she’s the daughter of two journalists.

-Say what you will about Ryan Reynolds (and ohh boy, I have) but he sure knows how to capitalize on a social media trend. His gin company hired the Peloton commercial wife for their latest ad.

-Meanwhile, Ryan is stuck in a video game in the first trailer for Free Guy.

-The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer has arrived and it’s glorious.
