–Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian are pretending to be hot for each other in their new SKIMS ads. In other news, I no longer understand the target audience for shapewear.

-Shocking and tragic: Willie Garson has passed away from pancreatic cancer at 57. He was spotted filming the Sex and the City reboot just last month. The celebrity tributes are pouring in.

–Brad Pitt is accusing Angelina Jolie of using “devious means” to try to cut him out of a lucrative real estate deal involving the posh Chateau Miraval estate they co-owned in France.

–Aaron Rodgers has responded to critics who claimed his relationship with Shailene Woodley is affecting his performance: “It’s absolute horseshit.”

–Jennifer Hough, who accused Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty of rape, claims she was threatened with a $20k bounty on her head.

–Justin Chambers says after 15 years on the show, Grey’s Anatomy became “sort of a factory job for acting. You just clock in, clock out.” He was rumoured to be making around $375k per episode, so not exactly like a factory job though, is it?

–Nicole Richie turned 40 and celebrated by accidentally setting her hair on fire.

–Johnny Depp used his acceptance speech at the San Sebastian Film Festival to call out cancel culture. “It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people.”

–Ryan Reynolds responded in the best way possible to Gerard Butler‘s casual diss — by shouting out the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

-Here’s Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein doing a 6-minute medley of The Muppet Christmas Carol songs, just because it’s been that kind of week and I feel we all need it.

–Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian and Rami Malek will be among the first hosts of SNL’s new season.

-The Prince Andrew reputation rehabilitation project has begun.

–Richard Buckley, fashion editor and designer Tom Ford‘s husband of 35 years, has died.

-Black actresses who star on CW superhero shows got together on an Instagram Live to talk about their experiences. The Flash’s Candice Patton said that the network had no idea how to deal with the racist hate coming her way, but she knew if she left the show that execs would have used that as an excuse to not cast Black women in the future.

–Kathy Hilton went into a restaurant wearing a dress and left wearing a tablecloth. I’ve never been more interested in her.

-Following years of complaints about her use of “blaccent,” Awkwafina finally addressed the matter in an interview — and didn’t really say much at all. It’s weird that she’s been so dogged by this and yet seemed totally caught off guard by the question.

-An Emmys producer found Seth Rogen‘s onstage COVID comments “deeply frustrating.”

–Daniel Craig believes the next James Bond should not be a woman — because he believes actresses should get better roles and not settle for castoffs.

–Britney Spears’ lawyer told a judge that he expects her conservatorship will be terminated “completely and inevitably” this fall, but his current top priority is removing Jamie Spears from the role of conservator of her estate. He is urging the judge to replace Jamie on Sept. 29 with someone who could handle the job on a “temporary, short-term” basis for things like her prenuptial agreement.

-Netflix’s new miniseries Maid is getting good reviews, especially Margaret Qualley’s performance as a mom who finds work cleaning houses after escaping an abusive relationship.

–Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry make an Uber driver’s night hell in the trailer for Netflix vampire action movie Night Teeth.

 

Jennifer Lopez is a Visionary

–Jennifer Lopez covers the new issue of Adweek, who has given her their Brand Visionary award. Ben Affleck was asked to weigh in and said, “All I can tell you is that I have seen firsthand the difference representation makes because I have seen, over and over and over and over, women of color approach Jennifer and tell her what her example as a strong woman and a woman succeeding and demanding her fair share in the business world means to them. I am in awe of what Jennifer’s effect on the world is.”

-Yet another Britney Spears doc is coming, this one from Netflix, who just released a short teaser.

–Jake Gyllenhaal screened his new movie The Guilty and told the audience that rumours of a showering strike were greatly exaggerated. “It was an answer to a question where I was being sarcastic and ironic and it’s followed me around ever since. I showered before I came here, so I’m sorry!”

-The Ted Lasso crew held a “friends and family” Emmys afterparty that featured karaoke, the famous biscuits and a birthday cake for Jason Sudeikis. I love that Brendan Hunt wore the pants from the last episode!

-This could rock the entertainment world: For the first time in its history, IATSE, which is made up of over 375 unions representing every discipline of film and tv labour, is preparing to strike after the latest contract talks between the organization and producers faltered. The stories about TV and film crew members being overworked and exploited seems to have reached the tipping point with the sudden popularity of this anonymous Instagram account.

–Kathryn Hahn is set to play Joan Rivers in a limited Showtime series called The Comeback Girl.

-A Pitch Perfect TV series has been ordered at Peacock. The series is set several years after the events of the films, with Adam Devine returning as Bumper, who moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. It’s got good bones: Elizabeth Banks will produce, while The Good Place’s Megan Amram will be the showrunner.

–Uma Thurman penned an op-ed condemning Texas’ anti-abortion law and shared her “darkest secret”: she had an abortion in her teens.

-Meanwhile, David Simon just pulled his new HBO project out of Texas because of the law.

–Amy Schumer revealed she is recovering from surgery after having her uterus and appendix removed due to “painful and debilitating” endometriosis: “I’m gonna try to share this story at some point to raise awareness because so many people don’t even know the word endometriosis.”

-Family Guy included a PSA on how vaccines work. That’s where we’re at now. Baby Stewie has to explain science.

–JoJo Siwa quickstepped her way to history in her Dancing with the Stars debut. She’s the first female celeb to be paired with a female pro.

–Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, revealed she’s been in a relationship with a woman for 19 years.

When asked about the comparisons of Gerard Butler‘s 2009 film Gamer to the recent action flick Free Guy, Butler responded “I actually don’t know what Free Guy is.’ When his Copshop costar Alexis Louder explained, he said “Oh shit, is it? … I don’t watch Ryan Reynolds movies.” LOL

-I really like the Vulture series where they ask an actor a bunch of questions about a random role on their resume. Up today is Richard E. Grant talking about Spice World.

-Fans are having issues with the ending of Sally Rooney‘s Beautiful World, Where Are You. There are 944 people ahead of me in the library hold, so I will never know.

-Here’s the first trailer for Joel Coen’s The Tragedy Of Macbeth, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.

-And here’s the trailer for Netflix’s Passing, Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga. Set in ’20s Harlem, a Black housewife (Thompson) suffering through a quiet emotional breakdown reunites with a childhood friend (Negga) who’s now passing as a wealthy white woman. I still find it weird that Hall’s the one to tell this story, but the trailer is impressive.

Nicole Kidman’s Reinvention as a TV Star

–Nicole Kidman graces the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar (though I wish they’d chosen one of the other photos for the cover instead). She talks filming Nine Perfect Strangers during the pandemic (“We just really bonded and that’s unusual for this day and age. Because a lot of times people are coming in and leaving and you don’t get that camaraderie and friendship”) and recovering from the harsh spotlight of her marriage to Tom Cruise (“I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shut-down approach. My husband, Keith, says that when he met me, he said, ‘How’s your heart?’ And I apparently responded, ‘Open'”).

-The Emmy Awards were last night and though there weren’t many upsets, most of the winners were solid choices. Fashion-wise, my favourite looks were from Anya Taylor-Joy, Yara Shahidi, Beanie Feldstein, Angela Bassett and Nicole Byer. I didn’t love Kathyrn Hahn, Juno Temple or Emma Corrin (but at least Corrin gave everyone something to talk about).

–Seth Rogen was the first presenter and kicked off the show with a bit about the seemingly lax covid protocols. “Let me start by saying there’s way too many of us in this little room. What are we doing? They said this was outdoors – it’s not! They lied to us…I would not have come to this.”

–Taika Waititi and Rita Ora were way too extra.

–Michaela Coel‘s speech may have destroyed me.

-Do I have to start watching Reservation Dogs? The cast got the biggest cheers when they presented last night, and critics (who always liked the show) seem to be raving about the final three episodes of the season.

–Adele made her relationship with Rich Paul Instagram official among a slideshow about her wearing a dress that’s very reminiscent of 90210’s prom episode.

–Gisele Bündchen is defending Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, who is facing backlash for posting an anti-vax comment on Instagram.

-After he was caught on tape saying the n-word, country music star Morgan Wallen pledged $500K to Black-led charities. Rolling Stone reached out to 57 state, regional and national organizations, and so far only one reported receiving any money from Wallen.

-I don’t understand why people don’t scrub their internet history the second they achieve a whiff of fame. Simu Liu is under fire after old Reddit posts he reportedly wrote were uncovered.

-Jane the Virgin star Justin Baldoni‘s does his best Backstreet Boy impression in his hilarious new HP Ink commercial.

–Emily Blunt and The Rock proved that tequila makes makes press junkets better.

-I don’t actually think I finished The Haunting of Bly Manor, but I’m going to check out Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan’s latest for Netflix, because the reviews are excellent. Hamish Linklater and Zach Gilford‘s performances, in particular, keep getting shouted out as exceptional.

-Michael Myers is back in the final trailer for Halloween Kills.

–Tom Hanks, a robot, and a dog versus the world in the first trailer for AppleTV’s emotional survival story, Finch.
