Will Smith Opens Up about Extramarital Relationships

Will-Smith on the cover of GQ

-In his new GQ interview, Will Smith gets candid about extramarital relationships. He said, “Jada never believed in conventional marriage….And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection. We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison.” The article also includes this tidbit: “A viewer of [Red Table Talk] could have walked away thinking that Jada was the only one engaging in other sexual relationships, when that was not, Smith delicately explained to me, in fact the case.”

-Wow. R. Kelly was found guilty of being the ringleader of a decades-long scheme to recruit women and underage girls for sex. After nine hours of jury deliberation, they found him guilty on all 9 counts—one of racketeering and eight of sex trafficking. He could face life in prison after his sentencing hearing in May.

Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd have been spotting out together at dinner again. I still don’t believe they’re dating, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

-Following the NYT’s new report that Jamie Spears allegedly hired a security firm to monitor Britney’s phone and bug her home, her lawyer says he has “crossed unfathomable lines” and is urging the court to suspend him immediately.

-The 21-year-old son of Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly punching a 24-year-old woman in the face.

Lena Dunham got married over the weekend, and Taylor Swift was reportedly a guest.

-The View says Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin had false positive tests and don’t actually have covid.

-This Variety opinion piece on why Warner Bros should just open Dune in theatres exclusively instead of “giving it away” in your living room feels really misguided. Yes, the studio might use lackluster box office performance as cover for pushing streaming subscriptions, but that’s part of a bigger problem of making theatres more appealing. And who’s “giving it away”? You still need an HBO Max subscription.

-Nearly all the SNL core cast is returning for season 47 — except for Beck Bennett. I’m surprised; I thought for sure Aidy Bryant and Cesily Strong would leave.

-I’m a big fan of Joel Coen and Frances McDormand; I’m not a big fan of how they’re handling questions about Scott Rudin.

-Netflix’s Tudum event unleashed a bunch of new trailers, including Stranger Things, Don’t Look Up, and Extraction 2. But nothing seems to be getting as much buzz as the Bridgerton Q&A and our first scene with Anthony and Kate. I’m really liking what I’m seeing so far. There’s a reason this couple is a fan favourite of all the books; they’ve got an Elizabeth/Darcy-esque enemies-to-lovers, sparring banter vibe, and it’s great that they cast an actress who can convincingly demolish him with a sharp retort.

Alana Haim (of the band Haim) stars in the trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, which also stars Bradley Cooper, Cooper Hoffman (son of Philip Seymour Hoffman), Benny Safdie, and Tom Waits.

The View Interrupted by Covid

-It was a wild day on The View. They were supposed to have Kamala Harris on today, but in the middle of the show producers announced co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro had to leave the table after testing positive for Covid-19. Joy Behar and Sara Haines just took audience questions for the bulk of the show, and Harris ended up calling in remotely for the last 10 minutes of the show.

Elon Musk and Grimes have broken up after three years together.

Prince Andrew has accepted he has been served in a US sexual assault lawsuit. Wow, how big of him.

-Meanwhile, Teen Wolf is coming back…again, with a new movie from the show’s creator Jeff Davis for Paramount+.

Russell T. Davies — who was instrumental in helping revive Doctor Who in 2005 — is set to return as the showrunner of BBC’s cult sci-fi series. “I’m beyond excited to be back on my favorite show.”

Drew Barrymore interviewed the cast of Dear Evan Hansen as Josie Gellar from Never Been Kissed. There’s a moment when you can actually see Julianne Moore‘s soul leave her body…

Cary Fukunaga covers The Hollywood Reporter to chat about Bond, but also dished a bit about what went down on True Detective. “[Writer] Nic [Pizzolatto] kept positioning himself as if he was my boss and I was like, ‘But you’re not my boss. We’re partners. We collaborate.’… Nic is a really good writer, but I do think he needs to be edited down. It becomes too much about the writing and not enough about the momentum of the story. My struggle with him was to take some of these long dialogue scenes and put some air into them.”

-The Other Two has been renewed for a third season. Yay!

-The Super Mario Bros animated movie is powering up with an all-star voice cast led by Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The internet is SO MAD about the Pratt casting!

-I can’t believe I stuck it out through all of  Nine Perfect Strangers. I also can’t believe no one stopped Nicole Kidman from doing whatever she was trying to do. Melissa McCarthy and and Bobby Cannavale were the only good parts of that show.

-Meanwhile, on the show’s last day Melissa McCarthy proved that Nicole Kidman will hug anyone — no matter how much it scares her.

-A ton of Netflix trailers and featurettes are going to drop tomorrow during their Tudum event.

-A bunch of celebrities help Rob Lowe explain movie tropes in the trailer for Netflix’s Attack of the Hollywood Clichés!

Billie Eilish Takes Control

Billie Eilish on the elle cover

Billie Eilish covers the new issue of Elle and opens up about the scrutiny she receives over her looks. “The other day, I decided to wear a tank top. It wasn’t even a provocative shirt. But I know people are going to say, ‘Holy f**k, she’s dressing sexy and trying to make a statement.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m not. It’s 500 degrees and I just want to wear a tank top.'” She also talked about losing fans because she changed her style. “I lost 100,000 followers, just because of the boobs. People are scared of big boobs.”

Rihanna‘s Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 3 fashion show hits Amazon Prime tomorrow.

-I’m glad The Other Two seems to be getting more buzz with its second season. It’s so, so funny.

-Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein is reportedly dating British comedian Beth Rylance. Lucky her!

This interview with Andy Serkis, who directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, makes me really want to see it. He talks about Eddie and Venom’s relationship in this sequel and says “Absolutely they do love each other and that’s the kind of the center of the movie is that love affair, that central love affair.”

-I’m hearing lots of buzz about Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, a movie about a teen drag queen that just came to Amazon Prime.

-See why Kristen Stewart is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the first full trailer for Spencer.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays an artist who became famous for drawing cats in the trailer for The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. I saw this at TIFF and liked it more than I thought I would.
