Does Reese Witherspoon Have Three Legs on the Vanity Fair Cover?

vanity-fair-reese-witherspoon

-The cover for the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue is amazing, but all anyone can talk about is whether or not Reese Witherspoon looks like she has three legs. Even Oprah got in on the action!

-This Taylor Kitsch profile in GQ is damn near perfect. Oh, and the words that go along with the pretty pictures are ok, too.

-Us Weekly is reporting that Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams and Friday Night Lights’ Minka Kelly are dunzo.

-Well, at least Casey Affleck knows how to read the room. He withdrew as a presenter from the Oscars.

-The cast and minds behind Grey’s Anatomy picked their all-time favorite episodes.

-I haven’t watched this week’s episode of The X Files because I have to wait to watch with my friends (boo!) but apparently it made the whole reboot worthwhile. And there were a ton of easter eggs.

-Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker confirmed that she fought to get paid the same as Peter Capaldi and I love her even more now.

-Also, Octavia Spencer revealed that Jessica Chastain negotiated so that they’d get equal pay on their next film together.

-This deep dive into the rise and fall of the pop star purity ring is such a good read.

-We got our first look at Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel costume and comic book fans are confused.

-I love that the cast and director of Lady Bird made the cover of EW this week. The portraits are also great.

-Two more women have come forward to accuse Nelly of sexual assault.

-The new Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again trailer suggests that Meryl Streep’s character is not alive in this one.

Big Little Lies Lands Meryl Streep for Season Two

-The show that didn’t need any extra star wattage just got some anyway — in a big way. HBO just announced that Meryl Streep has signed on to Big Little Lies to play the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s character Perry. Executive producer David E. Kelley told THR in October that the actress— along with Tom Hanks — were his dream casting goals for the show. (Whispers: I still don’t want another season)

-In other huge TV news, CBS says it has given a 13-episode order to a Murphy Brown revival starring Candice Bergen. I would have just been happy if the original was streaming somewhere.

-And because nothing ever dies anymore, Tootsie is coming to Broadway.

-Us Weekly is reporting that James Franco is ‘paranoid about anything getting out‘ since the sexual misconduct allegations that have been made against him.

-Has Darren Aronofsky moved on from Jennifer Lawrence to Suki Waterhouse? How does this keep happening?!?

-I really liked this piece on how Get Out has changed how Hollywood talks about racism.

Jack White is requiring fans to keep their phones in locked pouches during his concerts. In a sure sign that I’m super old, this sounds like a good idea to me.

-It appears that the Billy Bush redemption tour has officially begun. Keep it.

-Mo Ryan’s interview with seven Breaking Bad writers (including Vince Gilligan) is worth your time.

-Nearly two and a half years after its series premiere, the second season of Jessica Jones will start streaming on Netflix on March 8.

-This Vulture interview with Erykah Badu is wild. She talks about what we’ve lost with the rise of digital music (“You can’t roll a joint on the cover of a digital download”), and says she’s a “humanist” who can see the good in everyone, including Bill Cosby and Hitler.

-This Drunk History episode, which features Tiffany Haddish drunkenly telling the story of Rose Valland (played by Busy Phillips!),  is everything I ever wanted.

-Also, Tiffany Haddish signed a first-look deal with HBO.

-I swear, I don’t understand NBC’s marketing of This Is Us. It’s basically like ‘hang out after the Super Bowl and watch us kill off your favourite character!!” It’s a little distasteful, no?

-Meanwhile, This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson told an amazing story about Denzel Washington and Phylicia Rashad.

Olivia meets Annalise in this first look from the Scandal & HTGAWM crossover. This episode is going to lead to a lot of purse envy across the world.

-Watching Colton Haynes and Kevin McHale gossiping while playing with cats is kind of great.

Laverne Cox Covers Cosmo

-Yay for Laverne Cox, who just became Cosmopolitan’s first openly trans cover model.

-Today’s Oscar noms were a mixed bag. Though there’s still a lot of work to be done, but it was more diverse and not as #OscarsSoWhite as previous years, with four black actors included in the acting categories (Daniel Kaluuya, Denzel Washington, Mary J. Blige and Octavia Spencer), and Jordan Peele becoming only the third person to receive best picture, director, and writing noms. Women fared well too, with Mudbound’s Rachel Morrison  becoming the first woman nominated for best cinematography in history, and Greta Gerwig becoming the fifth ever woman to be nominated for directing. And 8 of the 10 nominated actresses are over 40!

-Meanwhile, the nominations seemed to solidify the sense that it’s now a two-way race between The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

-I’m bummed there was no best pic noms for The Big Sick, The Florida Project or Wonder Woman, and no supporting love for Tiffany Haddish and Michael Stuhlbarg. I am not bummed at all by the James Franco snub.

-I just took the Good Place soul mate quiz and got Tahini. That can’t be good.

Dylan Farrow’s clapback to Justin Timberlake makes me want to write poems in her honour.

Melissa Benoist’s outfit at the Waco premiere is so fugly, it’s nearly incomprehensible. Dear gawd, are those velvet shoes?!

Leonardo DiCaprio helped Orlando Bloom celebrate Bloom’s 41st birthday with a party full of models in Marrakesh.

-I love that this reporter asked Sterling K Brown if he’d noticed how few black reporters were granted access at the SAGs (especially since there are rumours that Marvel is being selective on letting black journalists interview the cast of Black Panther). It’s opened up a wider conversation about access and revealed some not great stories about the Luke Cage media rollout.

Zoe Kazan has never been more relatable than in this pic of her meeting Frances McDormand.

-In an interview with Vulture about Baskets, Zach Galifianakis said of Louis C.K.: “This is the poison of celebrity culture: The fact that someone can think that just because they’re loved, they can do what they want. It grosses me out. That’s all I want to say.”

-It’s pilot season! Here’s a look at what the networks are ordering. (CBS has clearly took their criticism to heart; all of the shows they’ve ordered so far are from female creators).

-One of the great byproducts of the Times Up movement in Hollywood is the growing transparency around pay. Over 100 anonymous TV workers shared what they make as pilot writers, on writing staffs, and as assistants.

Mo’Nique is blasting Netflix for not offering her what she deserves for a comedy special. (She’s not wrong.) Wanda Sykes offered her own story about being low-balled by Netflix.

-The Honest Trailers treatment of Get Out is great.
