Anya Taylor-Joy’s Flower Power

Anya Taylor-Joy poses with sunflowers on the cover of InStyle

Anya Taylor-Joy covers Instyle’s Beauty Issue. She talks about how her friends keep her grounded (“I also have great friends who tease me mercilessly if I even hint at being overworked or stressed. They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, honey, it’s so sad that you have to go get on a plane and go do whatever'”) and learning boundaries (“I really struggle with wanting to give everybody everything all of the time”).

-Besides Dune, her new movie (Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho) is the hottest ticket at TIFF. A new trailer dropped today and it’s both creepy and intriguing.

-Big news broke last night: Jamie Spears asked a judge to end his daughter’s 13-year conservatorship. There’s chatter that he didn’t want to deal with the “pressure” Britney’s new attorney has kept up on him, accusing him of abusing his power over her and of dissipating her estate. He also resisted Jamie’s attempts to be compensated for stepping down as her conservator, saying there was nothing to negotiate and that Jamie should resign immediately.

-Though this is a good step forward, ending her conservatorship likely won’t be a quick process.

-Last night’s other big news: John Mulaney appeared on Seth Meyers’s show last night and spoke candidly about his intervention and subsequent trip to rehab, and confirmed he and Olivia Munn are expecting. Meanwhile, the discourse around him has grown exhausting. I think two things can be true at the same time: people are very invested in his personal life because he’s made that such a huge part of his standup that they’re now pushing back against (unjustified) feelings of betrayal, but also he traded on his rep as Hollywood’s “good guy/non-toxic celeb/the marriage guy” a little too heavily to make the timeline of events (not to mention his ex wife’s reactions) sit well with some folks. This thread pretty much nails it.

-Speaking of the timeline, he opened the interview with some clarification (or revision?). He said he first went to rehab in September last year, split from his ex-wife in October, then relapsed and went back to rehab for two months, and didn’t start dating Munn until the spring.

Kylie Jenner announced that she and Travis Scott are going to have another baby with this cute Instagram video, and fans are convinced she hinted it’s a boy.

Bob Odenkirk posted a photo of himself look happy and healthy back on the set of Better Call Saul.

-This Vulture review of Drake‘s new album is the best one I’ve read yet. “It is a trip through a world we already know. There are no surprises in its landscapes. Maybe this is the source of its appeal.”

Nicole Kidman made an ad about why everyone should return to AMC, and a lot of people are pointing out that her watching movies in an empty theatre is kind of missing the point.

Eva Longoria has resigned from the Time’s Up board amid the organization’s turmoil.

-Though no official cause of death has been determined yet, authorities are reportedly investigating Michael K. Williams‘ passing as an overdose.

-Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been officially revived by as a Christmas TV movie by Roku, marking their foray into original programming.

-Netflix dropped a trailer for Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan‘s follow up to The Haunting of Bly Manor. Saracen!

Riz Ahmed plays a Marine who goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an alien threat in the Encounter trailer.

-The first teaser for Netflix’s star-packed Don’t Look Up has arrived. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet and Meryl Streep.

Angelina Jolie Breaks Instagram Records

-I wondered if Angelina Jolie‘s decision to join Instagram was tied to her Marvel contract, but sources say she was compelled to join and speak out about what’s happening in Afghanistan. In her first post, she shared a letter she was sent from a teenage Afghan girl.

-Another day, another adorable set of photos of Channing Tatum and Zoe Kravitz hanging out in NYC. Ok, now that it seems like they really are together I want to wrap them in bubblewrap and make everyone leave them alone.

Kylie Jenner is pregnant — she’s expecting her second child with Travis Scott.

-So, it happened. Mike Richards quit Jeopardy after his first day of taping following Ringer’s explosive report and rumblings that Sony was unimpressed. When I say he quit Jeopardy though, I only mean his new hosting gig. He’s still an executive producer. I can’t imagine what it must be like to work there now (or what the next host will deal with). According to the NYT, staff aired grievances at meeting on Thursday, while Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen were not allowed to watch the in-studio taping and were told that Richards was too nervous about their presence.

-Meanwhile, The Ringer’s Claire McNear talked about how her story came together, the response she received, and what she predicts comes next.

Ryan Reynolds tweeted his support for Levar Burton to take over hosting, bringing up the fan campaign that got him cast as Deadpool.

-The woman who was assaulted by Nicki Minaj’s husband is speaking out and taking new legal action after saying she’s experienced several months of alleged harassment, threats and intimidation from Minaj, her husband and their associates.

-There were some reports this week that Britney Spears had secretly married and divorced her then-fiancé and former agent Jason Trawick in 2012. The speculation surfaced when her conservatorship court filings included an expense of $9,150 for a lawyer “Consultation on Dissolution of Marriage,” but the most likely explanation is that it was a meeting about a prenup.

-Even though Johnny Depp lost his defamation suit in the UK, a Virginia judge has ruled that he can file a separate suit against Amber Heard in the US.

Lizzo says she stopped wearing deodorant. Celebrities, you continue to have the option to not tell us things! We would never know and everyone could just go on living their lives.

-There’s a bit of a backlash to Ted Lasso happening right now that I find both predictable and exhausting. I agree with both this take and this review — but I just want to keep liking it.

-I’ve never seen this clip of Will Smith talking about how he passed on playing Neo in The Matrix because the Wachowskis’ pitch was awful. “As it turns out, they’re geniuses. But there’s a fine line in a pitch meeting between genius and what I experienced in the meeting.”

Mindy Kaling says that a lot of what she writes about is informed by a “devastating” remark about her weight that a fellow writer said to her when she was 25 and on The Office.

-Shadow and Bone star Ben Barnes celebrated his 40th birthday by announcing a debut album.

-This is an interesting look at how TV’s shifts toward streaming and fewer episodes is making it harder for writers to train to become showrunners. In network TV days, writers would get to visits the sets and see how showrunners navigated the management side of things, but now most writers rooms are off the payroll before the show has finished production.

-I liked Sydney Sweeney in Euphoria but it wasn’t until The White Lotus that I realized what she could do. She stars in the trailer for the erotic thriller The Voyeurs, coming to Amazon Prime.

-In a revealing new interview, Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart opens up about going through heartbreak and depression (“The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life and my therapist [told] me, ‘Your body’s going through withdrawal from love. You’re used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you’re with.’ In moments of my life, I have dropped every ounce of pride that I had just to be like, Love me. Please take the pain away for a day, a second, an hour, just so I can feel that fix again”), and her worries that her book of poetry might be misinterpreted (“I felt the need to write that because I was scared — and I am scared — that people are going to try and create their own idea of what my love life looked or looks like. I’m not saying, My boyfriend fucked another woman. I’m saying, I felt betrayed”). However, she later took to Twitter to clarify that her words are being taken out of context by some and she wasn’t talking about her recent split from costar Cole Sprouse, tweeting “I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression.”

-Meanwhile, Sprouse posted a photo of her on Instagram with the caption, “Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March. What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love. I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.”

In a new interview, Jennifer Aniston says she related to the scene in The Morning Show when her character stops herself from having a breakdown  and slaps on a smile. “There have been moments — not to that level of hysteria — but moments of ‘I don’t want to f**king go here,’ ‘I don’t want to walk out onto the carpet,’ ‘I don’t want to be seen,’ ‘I don’t want to be looked at and everyone’s going to be talking about me and judging me’ … that’s real. I just loved being able to walk into it and lean into it and not be ashamed of it, but actually just … it was like … Ooooooooooh.”

Deuxmoi (which is quickly becoming a must-follow on IG for gossip hounds) has noticed that this small IG account that recaps celeb news has some very not-small followers, including Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Jessica Parker. I’ve only checked out the last 3 posts but 2 of those bash Angelina Jolie.

Why are y’all so upset that I don’t wanna be in the bed sad? Why y’all upset that I can walk?”

-The Glee cast can’t catch a break. Dianna Agron and Mumford & Sons’ Winston Marshall have reportedly split after three years of marriage.

Brandy is on the cover of People, talking up about her decades-long battle with depression following a car accident that killed a woman, and how her daughter Sy’rai saved her. “I remember lying in bed super depressed. I [told] myself, ‘So, you’re just going to go out like this? That’s wack. You have a daughter. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for her because this is not the way to leave a mark in her life.'” (Also, if you haven’t listened to her new album yet, you should. It slaps.)

Ashley Benson was spotted with a diamond on her finger, leading to speculation that she’s engaged to G-Eazy. (With the mask, I seriously have no idea how any paparazzi recognized her. Should we just assume that any masked celebs who get papped at random spots set it up?)

Tracee Ellis Ross says she fought to make sure her Black-ish character didn’t always look like a traditional sitcom wife. “What I did speak up about from the beginning was, ‘Why am I carrying laundry?’ ‘Why am I the person in the kitchen cooking right now, when this has nothing to do with the scene?’ Even sometimes when it does have something to do with the scene. I started coining them as ‘lady chores.’ ‘Why am I doing the lady chores? Can’t Anthony [Anderson] do the lady chore?'”

-I don’t know why I had no interest in Kenneth Branagh‘s Murder on the Orient express, but I’m down with Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile trailer. I blame Gal Gadot and the Depeche Mode song.
