Say a Little Prayer for EW’s My Best Friend’s Wedding Reunion

My Best Friends Wedding reunion EW

-I gave up on my EW subscription last year because I never had time to read it (plus it was weirdly expensive?) but I’ll definitely be picking up the print edition of their romcom issue. Every article they’ve released from it so far has been great, but the My Best Friend’s Wedding cover seals the deal. I recently rewatched it and it’s even more problematic than I remember (Kimmy’s a child! Julianne’s a monster!) but this oral history is very fun. I really hope this marks the start of Cameron Diaz’s un-retirement cause I missed her.

-It’s a big day in covers. Newlyweds Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber landed on the March issue of Vogue.  I hate that he’s not wearing a shirt, but it’s completely expected at this point. They talk about working on their marriage (“We’re coming from a really genuine place. But we’re two young people who are learning as we go”), reflect on his past (“my mom was depressed a lot of my life and my dad has anger issues. Stuff that they passed on that I’m kind of mad they gave me”), and talk about Hailey’s stabilizing influence.

-Meanwhile, like many others I will never read about Hailey without thinking of that bit in Caity Weaver’s GQ Bieber profile in which she’s just sitting in his hotel room, doing nothing and waiting for him.

Michelle Rodriguez says Liam Neeson can’t be racist because of how he passionately frenched Viola Davis in Widows. Um, what now?

-Hollywood is now developing movies based on Reddit threads.

-It looks like Disney+ is shaping up to be a true Netflix competitor, with non-Disney shows streaming, too.

Chris Pratt seems confident that Disney will use James Gunn’s script for Guardians 3.

Steve Buscemi has responded to that viral video of Jennifer Lawrence with his face: “It makes me sad.”

-Scrubs star Sam Lloyd (who played Ted the lawyer) hit his fundraising goal in two days after revealing lung & brain cancer diagnosis.

Seth Meyers got drunk with the Barefoot Contessa. He’s living my dream!!

Ariana Grande clarified why she dropped out of the Grammys. She called out the show’s producer Ken Ehrlich for “lying about me” when he told the Associated Press that she “felt it was too late for her to pull something together.” Grande tweeted, “I can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken. It was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that I decided not to attend.”

-Ariana is all about clearing up rumours today. She’s denying a feud with Nicki Minaj.

Jennifer Garner talked about being “surrounded by paparazzi” while being married to Ben Affleck.

Naya Rivera has spoken out about those Lea Michele feud rumours on the Glee set: “I don’t think there was any beef.”

Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba have a pillow fight in the LA’s Finest trailer.

Taylor Swift Can’t Shake It Off

-Not surprising: Taylor Swift is dominating the conversation after the first single from Reputation dropped last night. Actually surprising: the conversation isn’t exactly going her way. Her label had to clarify that it’s a total coincidence that her album is being released on the anniversary of nemesis Kanye West’s mother’s death. The video sneak peak makes it look like Lemonade-lite. She’s somehow aligned herself with Right Said Fred. And then there’s the song itself. It’s … not good. Weirdly, I think I wouldn’t mind it if it appeared on Lorde‘s new album (also produced by Jack Antoff). But offbeat, deconstructed choruses and faux-edgy undertones aren’t what Taylor does best. It doesn’t help that she invites everyone to comb through her songs to find the disses (Kanye! Katy!), but the lyrics  just don’t hold up to scrutiny. And instead of truly embracing her snarky side like we all hoped, she’s once again reverted to playing the victim card.  (My favourite tweet about “Look What You Made Me Do” was “It’s like the song is blaming us for the song”).  The pile-on is so extreme today that I’m starting to get Anne Hathaway-ish sympathy feels for Taylor but  still, it’s a rare, giant misstep for her.

James Cameron says Wonder Woman praise is “misguided,” and called the character”an objectified icon” and “a step backwards.” I mean, we’re really supposed to care about what James Cameron thinks after he explained his approach to developing a strong female character in Avatar with such gems as “Right from the beginning I said, ‘She’s got to have tits,’ even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na’vi, aren’t placental mammals.”

-Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins‘ clapback was perfect.

-In her new Rolling Stone cover story, Gal Gadot points out how ridiculous it was to be criticized for not being curvy enough to play Wonder Woman. “I told them, ‘Listen, if you want to be for real, then the Amazons, they had only one boob. Exactly one boob. So what are you talking about here?'”

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher settled their lawsuit with Daily Mail over photos of their daughter.

-The HBO hackers are at it again. They leaked detailed plot outlines about how this weekend’s season finale will end.

-Fleabag is coming back for a second season. Not until 2019 but I don’t care. I NEEDED this news today!

-Also getting another season is Black Mirror. I didn’t even finish the last one, but a Star Trek parody starring Jesse Plemons intrigues me.

Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx are still a thing. I wonder when her divorce contract will expire and they can go public?

-This is a really excellent deep dive into how Late Night with Seth Meyers got so, so good. I especially like the part where he talked about diversity in his writing room: “I didn’t know the kinds of things a non-straight white man might bring to the table. The only way to find out was to bring them to the table.”

-Following his ex’s request for full custody of their two children, Jesse Williams is fighting back, insisting his work schedule won’t prevent him from caring for the kids.

-Look how cute the guys who play The Hound and Tormund are in this behind-the-scenes video.

Miley Cyrus is posing as a nude fairy on the cover of David LaChapelle’s new coffee table book.

Alicia Vikander has sexy times with an artist while married to Christoph Waltz in the trailer for period piece Tulip Fever.

Jennifer Lopez on Carpool Karaoke

James Corden texting Leo DiCaprio from Jennifer Lopez‘s phone about what to do for fun and him responding “You mean tonight, boo-boo? Club wise?” is giving me LIFE!

-Meanwhile, James Corden, Jon Bernthal, and Cuba Gooding Jr. had a breakdance battle. Kinda.

Charlize Theron insists she didn’t actually “ghost” Sean Penn. I guess I should probably stop working on that statue I’m sculpting in her honour…

Jennifer Lawrence is suddenly very interested in doing more X-Men movies. Sure she is.

-If you have a minute, this writer’s takedown of Elle magazine and what they did to his interview with elusive fashion legend Rei Kawakubo is a hell of a read. (Frankly, both sides don’t come off well here. But it’s rare to see someone burn down every bridge in such a nutso way.)

-Speaking of nutso, NBC’s next live event is going to be A Few Good Men adaptation from Aaron Sorkin. What?

Susan Sarandon has finally backtracked on her comments about Trump, thankfully. Dammit Janet!

Whoopi Goldberg is launching medical marijuana products targeted at menstrual cramps. Marry me.

Chris Brown mocked Kehlani’s suicide attempt because he continues to be the human equivalent of a male pinky ring.

Seth Meyers announcing his first baby (and getting all teary about it) is adorable.

-God bless Wentworth Miller for making everyone feel like shit about that internet meme about him that’s going around.

-Words I thought I’d never type: a CW show helped boost the ratings of a CBS show.

Claire Danes and Jimmy Fallon played a very energetic game of Fast Family Feud.

Ben Affleck has definitely written a script for his own solo Batman movie. As much as I thought he was the best part of BvS, I’m gonna need at least five years before anyone brings this up again, mm-kay?

-Warner Bros. released a deleted Batman v Superman scene, starring Lex Luthor. It still doesn’t make anything make sense.

Nick Offerman has very deep shower thoughts.

Aaron Paul‘s new Hulu show The Path debuts tonight (tomorrow on Showcase in Canada), and every review seems to say it’s slow. Like, really, really slow.

Kiefer Sutherland is trying to be a country singer now. Ok, then.

Brad Pitt reportedly once offered to sire Melissa Etheridge’s child.

-Ok, Gilmore Girls — you don’t have to bring back EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER that’s ever been on the show. At this point, the entire reboot is just going to consist of actors walking past the camera and waving.

Peter Dinklage is hosting SNL this weekend. Kristen Bell must be so excited!

-The new Me Before You trailer was designed in a lab to maximize tear duct activation.
