Celebs Celebrate InStyle

julianne moore in style

-This is a really good week for cover stories. For InStyle’s 25th anniversary, they gathered a bunch of stars to look back on their favourite covers, including Jennifer Garner, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Aniston, Kerry Washington, Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more. All of the videos are great, but the Garner one is gold.

-Speaking of good cover stories, Woody Harrelson tells Esquire that turning down the lead in Jerry Maguire is his biggest career regret.

-Vanity Fair’s Power of Young Hollywood covers feature Cole Sprouse, Stephan James, and Camila Cabello.

Nic Cage did an interview with the New York Times that has to be read to be believed.

-I also dug this profile of Nicholas Braun, who plays Cousin Greg on Succession (though he will always be Cameron from the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You to me).

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are still going strong. Huh.

Jacob Tremblay mistaking Tobey Maguire for his lawyer is giving me life.

Justin Theroux opened a hipster “dive bar” which seems very douchey and therefore very on-brand.

-Apparently the Pitch revival came close to happening but couldn’t find a home at Disney. Frankly, I’ve been so disappointed by reboots and revivals recently that I’m ok with this.

-The Rookie actress Afton Williamson says she won’t be returning to the ABC drama starring Nathan Fillion, claiming that she faced racial discrimination from the hair department and exec producers, and sexual harassment from a recurring guest star, which escalated at the wrap party.

Tiffany Haddish is shooting in Toronto and she’s been hanging out at the gym because the men are hot. She clearly goes to a different gym than me.

Melissa McCarthy saw if we want more women-led movies, we have to buy more tickets to them. She’s not wrong, but I think there’s a bit more to it than that.

-The Ryan Murphy-produced American Crime Story is coming back — and the focus will be on the Clinton presidency scandal, with Monica Lewinsky on board to produce. The cast is stacked: Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp; Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky; and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones. I only wish it wasn’t airing in the final weeks leading up to the 2020 election, which seems like a *really* bad time to remind everyone what a human tire fire Clinton could be.

-This is surprising: the 90210 reboot, which premieres tonight, is getting reviews that range from mildly positive to positive to glowing.

Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz and Oscar Isaac lend their voices to The Addams Family trailer.

Jeremy Renner Releases a Song, Confuses the Internet

-Ohmygod Jeremy Renner just released a sludgerock power ballad and it’s…something. Definitely does *not* slap. What a gift to take us into the long weekend!

-I kind of love that the hottest pop star of the summer is a 17-year-old who refuses to be sexualized. Billie Eilish says she wears baggy clothes on purpose: “What I like about just dressing like I’m 800 sizes bigger than I am is it kind of gives nobody the opportunity to judge what your body looks like. I don’t want to give anyone the excuse of judging…I want layers and layers and layers. And I want to be mysterious. You don’t know what’s underneath, and you don’t know what’s on top.”

-Whatever his reputation, Jake Gyllenhaal gives good Instagram.

-The weekend of weddings has kicked off with Katherine McPhee and David Foster’s nuptials.

-Meanwhile, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were photographed attending a pre-wedding party in the south of France, attended by her Game of Thrones costar Maisie Williams.

-Pretty Little Liars and You star Shay Mitchell announced she’s pregnant, and she’s already signed on to a YouTube original series to follow her path to motherhood.

Jimmy Fallon took Nicki Minaj to Red Lobster, which I love because RL is my fave low classy restaurant.

-Well this is some bullshit: Riz Ahmed‘s Star Wars Celebration appearance in Chicago was canceled because Homeland Security wouldn’t let him board his plane.

Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Disney villainess Ursula in the live-action remake of Little Mermaid.

Olivia Munn called out Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, and Quentin Tarantino for being able to “just push past” their #MeToo allegations.

-Girls star Allison Williams and Ricky Van Veen are calling it quits after four years of marriage.

-A new oral history about Eyes Wide Shut reveals Cate Blanchett had a secret cameo in the orgy scene!

-Guns N Roses’ Steven Adler has been hospitalized for stabbing himself in the stomach.

Nick Jonas, Patrick Wilson and Mandy Moore star in the trailer for Roland Emmerich‘s WWII drama Midway.

You’re Saying Rihanna’s Name Wrong

This video that Rihanna shot for British Vogue has everyone realizing that we’ve been pronouncing her name wrong all this time. She say “REE-anne-a” instead of “Ri-AHH-na”.

Meryl Streep doesn’t like the term “toxic masculinity,” saying: “We hurt our boys by calling something toxic masculinity. And I don’t find putting those two words together [works] because women can be pretty f***ng toxic. It’s toxic people.” Um Meryl, I love you to the moon and back, but “toxic masculinity” doesn’t mean that men are toxic. It’s referring to the very specific, very gendered behavior of incels and their ilk.

-Also, Streep asked to wear fake teeth in Big Little Lies to more resemble her on-screen son, Alexander Skarsgård.

-When asked about his love life while promoting John Wick 3, Keanu Reeves said “You mean romantic love? You know, I’m the lonely guy. I don’t have anyone in my life. But if it does occur, I would respect and love the other person; hopefully it’ll happen for me.” The line forms behind me.

Shailene Woodley horrified Ellen Degeneres by admitting that she doesn’t floss her teeth.

-Pride Month is starting early! Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson were spotted moving a sex bench into their home. Enjoy, ladies.

-Following yesterday’s THR interview with The Chi’s showrunner about how “everyone knew” about the harassment allegations against actor Jason Mitchell, show creator Lena Waithe gave a new interview saying: “What I want to do is own that I wish I would’ve handled the situation differently. And I wish I would’ve done more. What I want to do is own my part in it.”

Sally Rooney‘s book Normal People (which I liked but still don’t quite get what all the fuss is about), is going to be a Hulu series.

R. Kelly is facing 11 new felony counts of sexual abuse, which carries a maximum of 30 years in prison.

-The Chicago police just released the first round of case files surrounding Jussie Smollett after a judge ordered them to be unsealed last week.

-I am very here for New Girl’s Jake Johnson to be back on my TV screen.

Sacha Baron Cohen confirmed the long-held rumour that Borat is what led to Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock’s divorce.

-This is an interesting take on how fans feel like they were fooled by Morrisey because they mistook his far right views for just being a shy misfit.

-The reviews for the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale are good but not great.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Gwendoline Christie star in the Fabric trailer, which looks weird AF and I dig it.

The Kitchen trailer, starring Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, Elisabeth Moss and Margo Martindale, features three women who join the Irish mafia while their husbands are in jail. It kind of looks like The Widows but is set in the 70s. I’m here for it!
