Taylor Swift Drops “The Archer”

-iTunes released Taylor Swift‘s new song called “The Archer” hours before her livestream, where she was expected to debut it. This one builds nicely but at the end of the day, it’s her third single in a row that doesn’t exactly snap.

-This is a really cringey profile on Leonardo DiCaprio. The insults to superhero movie actors seem really odd, seeing as so many quality actors are doing those films now. And talking about how crew members of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood were instructed not to make eye contact with him like that’s a *good* thing is bizarre.

-I wasn’t sure about tuning into the next season of Homecoming, but now Janelle Monáe is set to replace Julia Roberts as the lead so I guess I don’t have a choice.

-I do not like Scarlett Johansson’s engagement ring. I don’t care that it cost $400k — it looks like it’s falling off the band.

-If you have a sign on your front lawn that quotes a celebrity, most celebrities would think it was creepy and drive away fast. Keanu Reeves, on the other hand, would stop the car and pen a touching note. He’s a precious unicorn and we don’t deserve him.

-Love love love this take on why male showrunners are obsessed with traumatizing young women.

-One of my favourite traditions from Comic-Con is Stephen Amell giving presents to a young fan named Sarah, who’s a cancer survivor. During his final Arrow panel this weekend, she got his season 1 costume.

-Um, the premise of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck‘s new movie sounds like a hard pass to me. It’s like ‘let’s tell a story about a women being raped — but about how it affects the MEN around her!’ Yeah, no.

-I needed this blooper reel from The Good Place in my life today.

-TIFF unveiled its gala films today and there are some super buzzy titles coming this year, including The Goldfinch, Hustlers, Knives Out, Joker, Judy, The Laundromat.

–Cynthia EriVo fight slavery as Harriet Tubman in the Harriet trailer, also coming to TIFF.

-What a swerve. Taika Waititi is going from his blockbuster Disney success to frolicking around as imaginary Hitler in Jojo Rabbit’s teaser trailer, which will screen at TIFF.

Missy Elliott Secures Her Legend Status

-I adore Missy Elliott‘s Marie Claire cover. She talks about breaking down barriers (“I am a champion for my brown, dark women. I want them to be seen. Because we are beautiful. If we knew how special we were, we would be unstoppable”), gender equality (“We need more women out there, singing and just for being. Just for balance. Just a great balance”) and learning to appreciate the big moments (“I was just going, going, going. It wasn’t resonating what was happening. I was in the car with Michelle Obama [for Carpool Karaoke], and [my friends] called me like, ‘Girl, we got to celebrate that’s huge!’ And I’m like, ‘I’m watching a movie on Netflix'”).

-Whoo! Taika Waititi has inked a deal to write and direct a follow-up to his 2017 smash, Thor: Ragnarok.

–Macy Gray gave a very strange talk show interview in which she said she’s a “vampire.”

-Netflix has altered Hannah’s graphic suicide scene in 13 Reasons Why after controversy — more than two years after it originally aired.

-This is the happiest I’ve been about Emmy nominations in YEARS. Sure, there were some snubs in this morning’s announcement that bugged me (Better Things, The Good Fight, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Hot Priest), but wow some great newcomers managed to break into the ranks, including Russian Doll, Schitt’s Creek, Jodie Comer and Fleabag. Nicole and I watched the season finale of Fleabag last night (again) and were blown away by Oliva Colman and Sian Clifford‘s performances, so I’m thrilled they both landed Supporting Actress nods.

–Sacha Baron Cohen‘s tweets about getting an Emmy nod are amazing.

-Meanwhile, Julia Roberts jokingly(?) posted about getting snubbed.

–Joey King tearfully Facetiming costar Patricia Arquette immediately after getting nominated was very sweet.

-The bromance continues for Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth.

-I have very little interest in watching Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. I am, however, here for watching Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie rib Leonardo DiCaprio about the Titanic door controversy. “Could you have squeezed in there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?” Leo was so over it before the interviewer even got the full question out.

-One thing I love about the CW is how often it lets its actors (especially women) direct episodes.

-Also, I stopped watching Supergirl but I love that they changed her costume to ditch the skirt.

-It sounds like Hayden Panettiere is having a rough go of it. She remains apart from her 4-year-old child, who lives with her father in Ukraine, as her current boyfriend faces charges of abuse.

–Awkwafina is having a moment. She’s interviewed by Margaret Cho in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar. She talks about attending red carpets for Crazy Rich Asians: “I grew up never really feeling pretty or like a girly girl. I was uncomfortable in my skin when it came to that stuff. I had been dressed up for events and had gotten glam before, but at the Crazy Rich Asians premiere I looked in the mirror and it felt different. It sounds clichéd, but I felt like a princess.”

-Also, Awkwafina stars with Emma Roberts in the new trailer for the fantasy film Paradise Hills.

-A bearded Chris Evans helps smuggle Ethiopian refugees to Israel in the trailer for Netflix’s The Red Sea Diving Resort.

Brad Pitt Cleans Up Nice

–Brad Pitt is on the cover of Australian GQ and this the best he’s looked in years. He talks about shooting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with Burt Reynolds (“We had two days of rehearsal with him and just to sit and talk and he was just… you know, they say don’t meet your heroes but he was just so gracious and kind. And still just funny as fuck”) and why he produces more than acts these days (“I keep doing less and less. I really believe that overall it’s a younger man’s game – not that there aren’t substantial parts for older characters – I just feel, the game itself, it’ll move on naturally”).

-Expect the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hype machine to kick into high gear in the next few weeks, especially considering it’s tracking for a $30 million opening weekend — which is modest considering it stars Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. I guess people aren’t as interested in sitting through a 2-1/2 hour movie about white dudes in the “good ol’ days” as they used to be.

–Lea Michele has a new ‘Finn’ tattoo to commemorate Cory Monteith.

–Jake Gyllenhaal might actually be losing it on this press junket.

–Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas released a wedding photo, which gives us a closer look at her Louis Vuitton dress. It’s not what I was expecting (I thought she’d go younger and edgier) but it’s very lovely.

-Speaking of wedding dresses, here’s a look at Katharine McPhee‘s ultra-fluffy Zac Posen gown.

–Katherine might not be liking that Sophie and Joe stole her Paris wedding spotlight; she tweeted to the paparazzi which yacht they are honeymooning on.

–Idris Elba set the record straight after two writers claimed they were pushed out of his play.

–Emma Portner, a choreographer and Ellen Page’s wife, blasted Justin Bieber on social media, accusing him of being terrible to work with. “I couldn’t afford to eat. I was sweeping studio floors to be able to practice my own craft. The way you degrade women is an abomination.”
