Angelina Jolie Makes TIFF a Family Affair

Angelina Jolie took her kids to her TIFF premiere and no one knew how to handle it.

-My favourite TIFF photo booth is the one that gets celebs to pose with puppies who are available to adopt.

-One of my fave TIFF films so far is Call Me By Your Name, a gay romance that Armie Hammer says he almost turned down.

-I’ve been so busy with TIFF that I missed the first cover of GOOP magazine — which of course features a mud-covered Gwyneth Paltrow.

Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus are still a thing. They were seen kissing and taking selfies at the U.S. Open.

Patty Jenkins is finally and officially set to return as director for the Wonder Woman sequel.

-Every TV critic I follow agrees that this is the worst fall TV season in recent memory. Here are some that might not suck.

-It’s not all bleak. This Season 2 clip for The Good Place looks forking great.

-DC’s Titans casts its Hawk and Dove. Holy shit, is Minka Kelly not even getting lead roles these days?

-Oh god, are we going to have to go through a whole new press tour with Jared Leto talking about his method acting on Blade Runner: 2049?

Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy celebrated 20 years of marriage last week. Here’s a reminder why they’re the best couple in Hollywood.

-I’ve worked my way up to 30 pushups, and that took me YEARS. Then I watch a tiny actress do 500 pushups and 500 situps in 29 minutes and I just want to quit.

-Here’s the new trailer for season 9 of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I dunno.  I realized this week while watching Ben Stiller’s new TIFF movie that I’ve really reached my limit of watching middle class white guys whine about their perfect lives.

John Mayer and Nicki Minaj flirting on Twitter has everyone rooting for them in a way I don’t understand. Don’t we remember his history?

-Oh god, there’s already a new Fifty Shades movie coming? Ugh.

Jessica Chastain Talks Paparazzi and Pitt in Elle Canada

Jessica Chastain Elle Canada

Jessica Chastain covers the latest issue of Elle Canada, in which she talks about her comments at the Cannes press conference, kissing Brad Pitt, calling out the paparazzi on social media, and why it’s “important to show powerful women who are good at their jobs because young girls need those examples.”

-TMZ is reporting that Justin Bieber canceled his tour because he’s “rededicated his life to Christ.” That’s…nice?

-Also John Mayer, who seems to have no connection to Justin or this tour, still offered an opinion on it.

TJ Miller continues to implode before our eyes.  Where are his people!?

-Divorce rumors don’t phase Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, who are calling out “fake news.”

-Speaking of marital statuses, Robert Pattinson says he and FKA Twigs are “kind of” engaged.

-The fact that Jennifer Lopez is leaning over at a weird angle and still has abs? And she turned 48 yesterday? Kill me.

Kristen Stewart and her girlfriend crashed a wedding in Winnipeg. I like that she had the restaurant owner ask if it was ok before she did it.

-The Buzzfeed photo booth at ComicCon, which recreated ’80s portraits, is my favourite. The iZombie cast killed it.

-Speaking of ComicCon, at Arrow’s panel a kid fighting cancer asked a question and Stephen Amell responded by hopping off the stage, giving her his arrow necklace, and telling her to bring it back to him next year. Sorry, I must have a tree in my eye…

-Also, Arrow was responsible for my other favourite ComicCon moment, when a journalist told that cast that Lost’s Michael Emerson would be joining the show. Amell’s face when he first hears the name looks like he’s trying to work out a complex math problem…

-Riverdale costars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are dating. I know barely anything about either of them, and yet somehow I still want better for her.

-This Usher herpes story is just not going away.

-The first wave of TIFF movies were announced today and there are some huge films coming, though I’m shocked Blade Runner 2049 wasn’t part of that list. Still, we got some goodies (and a look at how Oscar season is shaping up): Battle of the Sexes (Emma Stone, Steve Carrel),  Alexander Payne’s Downsizing (Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig), Angelina Jolie’s First They Killed My Father, I Tonya (Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan), Darren Aronofsky’s Mother (Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem), The Mountain Between Us (Idris Elba, Kate Winslet), Stronger (Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslaney), The Shape of Water (Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer), Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, and Suburbicon, directed by George Clooney, written by the Coen brothers and starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore.

-Ready for another Margaret Atwood adaptation? Here’s the trailer for Netflix’s Alias Grace, starring Sarah Gadon, Zachary Levi, and Anna Paquin. I didn’t love that book, but Sarah Polley is behind this so I have high hopes.

Chris Pratt Is Keeping It Real

Chris Pratt wrote a Facebook post about how normal his life is.

-Speaking of notes that made me laugh,  Damon Lindelof’letter to critics that he included with The Leftovers screeners is hilarious. He drops references to Joss Whedon and Fleabag, he avoids telling critics how to do their jobs, and then he wraps it up by lightly shading Matthew Weiner.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly speaking again — but only about the kids.

Ryan Gosling explains why he laughed when La La Land had the Best Picture Oscar taken away. “I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

-The new NYT profile on John Mayer is titled “John Mayer Knows He Messed Up. He Wants Another Chance.” Well, he’s a rich white dude so I’m guessing he’s got at least another dozen coming…

Kate Winslet opened up about being bullied as a child: “They “teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard. Laughed at me.”

-Wait, the Love Actually reunion will air tomorrow in the UK?! I wonder if I can book a boardroom for when this thing hits the web so I can squee over it in peace?

David Boreanaz has already signed on to his next TV role. After eight years on Buffy/Angel, and then 12 on Bones maybe he should just sleep for a bit?

-The new Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, exec produced by Selena Gomez, is getting glowing reviews.

-This is a good piece on how Hollywood is getting way too much credit for tiny gestures towards LGBT inclusivity.

-Remember Maggie Rogers, the NYU music student who blew Pharrell Williams away with her demo? Now she’s killing it on James Corden’s show and getting New Yorker profiles. Put her new EP in your ear holes right now!

-Oh god, the full trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale is devastating. This is going to be a hard watch given the current climate.

-The red band trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri might be the best trailer I’ve seen in a long, long time. I think I fell a little bit in love with Frances McDormand just watching it. (I was already in love with Sam Rockwell. Obviously.)
