Ansel Elgort’s Very Bad Day

Ansel Elgort is trending in response to an Instagram post which appears to accuse the actor of making racial slurs in high school, and a Tweet from a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her when she was 17.

-Remember his really odd GQ interview from a few years back? “Girls love it when you have some weird nerdy thing in your room. It makes you look less threatening, even though I’m, like, very threatening. I’m the most threatening guy ever.”

-In this Nicole Beharie interview in the NYT, she talks about how Sleepy Hollow mistreated her. “My co-star and I both got sick at the same time with the same illness and had different treatments. He was allowed to go on leave for a month and I had to continue working.” She was forced to work through it and ended up developing the autoimmune condition C. difficile. I remember loving the first season and being outraged that she, the co-lead, was clearly being punted to the background in favour of a white woman in the later seasons. She added, “Sometimes I think that some people I was working with didn’t like that I was unwell but loved by the audience. I would think they’d support that. But everyone of color on that show was seen as expendable and eventually let go. I tried to get work afterwards and people were like, “We heard you were difficult.” But no one can say I was late or unprofessional or negative.”

-During an interview on Watch What Happens Live, former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay spoke about her experience as the first Black lead of a show in the Bachelor franchise: “I did have a racist contestant on my season.”

Taylor Swift is speaking out again, this time to say Juneteenth should be a national holiday.

Gabrielle Union claims that her agent was threatened after she spoke out about the working conditions on America’s Got Talent.

-The Friends reunion special is now expected to film in August. I honestly can’t imagine how they’re going ahead with this when we’ve spent the last three months drowning in reunions for charity.

Will Smith joined wife Jada Pinkett Smith for an honest Father’s Day talk on Red Table Talk. “The idea being that just because a man might not be the best husband, does not mean he isn’t a good father.”

-Mr. Malcolm’s List, a diverse regency-era drama which first debuted as a short film from director/producer Emma Holly Jones earlier this year, will be expanded into a feature-length movie starring Constance Wu and Sam Heughan. Gemma Chan, Sope Dirisu, and Freida Pinto starred in the original short, which is a DELIGHT.

-AMC’s CEO said yesterday that the theatre chain won’t be enforcing mask-wearing when they reopen in July because they “did not want to be drawn into a political controversy.” They quickly reversed their decision following the backlash, but if they’re letting people take their masks off to eat, I can’t imagine it’ll be enforced.

Cardi B’s Sam Smith “remix” is hilarious — and a million times better than the original.

Noname responded to J. Cole in a new track.

-This is a very interesting take on how Love, Victor, a 10-episode Hulu spin-off of the 2018 film Love Simon, is caught up in the mythology of white gayness.

Sir Ian Holm, known for roles in Lord of the Rings and Alien, has died at age 88 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease. I’l always rememeber him from The Sweet Hereafter.

Jimmy Kimmel is taking the summer off to “spend even more time” with his family. His longtime frenemy Matt Damon helped him make the announcement.

Ansel Elgort Gets Naked for Charity

Ansel Elgort trended today because he posted a nude photo to Instagram with the caption “OnlyFans link in bio”, but instead of sending people to a paid porn site, the link goes to a GoFundMe page for buying meals for Brooklyn hospital staff. That’s both cringingly thirsty and kind of clever.

-Congrats to the internet’s favourite celebrity couple Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith, who welcomed their new baby girl.

J.Lo and A-Rod are trying to buy the New York Mets. That’s one way to combat self-isolation boredom, I guess.

Tiffany Haddish was on Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s Red Table Talk and got blunt about what she’s looking for in a guy — and it isn’t what you think: “I prefer small penises because I feel like small ones respect you. They’re kind. They buy you nice gifts. They take you nice places. They’ll come and clean your house; fix your cars for you. Small penises are penises of service. Big penises just do whatever they want to do.”

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post on COVID-19, animal welfare and wet markets.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated the Queen’s 94th birthday with a video call with her and Baby Archie.

-I don’t really know much of Rafe Spall besides the fact that he’s that guy from Life of Pi and Just Mercy, but goodness this is a great interview. On losing weight for roles, he said “I understand it, but you’ve got to be very careful with peddling the basic idea that being thin is happy and being fat is unhappy because all my problems are the same, regardless of the size of my waistline… When I’m extremely disciplined and not eating anything my wife doesn’t find me attractive – what she finds attractive is eating together and the sensuality of food. Look, eating nothing but fish and salad for 12 weeks is the opposite of sex.”

-I’m assuming this live tweet of Anna Kendrick‘s sex doll show on Quibi is far more entertaining than the show could ever be.

Andie Macdowell and her daughters Rainey and Margaret Qualley wanted to go to a closed park so badly, they crawled under a fence to get in. Tom Brady also tried to work out in a closed park. Celebrities, “closed” signs apply to you too!

Rainn Wilson had his Office costar Jenna Fisher on Instagram Live, and she showed off her Dundee Awards.

Jimmy Fallon quizzed costars Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer on which one knows more about the other. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go well.

Kate Beckinsale isn’t taking any criticism about the age gap between her and Goody Grace.

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are back at it in the Trip to Greece trailer.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Talks Fleabag

phoebe waller bridge gq

-It’s a banner day for us Phoebe Waller-Bridge fans. Tina Fey interviewed her for British GQ, where she talked about the critical reception to Fleabag (“The British press were like, [it’s] is the filthiest, most overly exposed, sexually exposing show ever.’ They made out like I was naked the whole way through. I was like, ‘There is not a moment of nudity in the series.’ I just say stuff about my asshole straight down the barrel. I think that makes people feel so naked, but the language was more naked than the actual performance.”)

Waller-Bridge is also on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s comedy actress issue, alongside Tiffany Haddish, Jane Fonda, Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, Alex Borstein and Regina Hall. She talks about why she loves writing Fleabag: “I write women who don’t give a shit because I am teaching myself how to be one. I just feel such a catharsis when I turn to the camera and just say that f**king line and it’s just such an amazing feeling. I’d like to be more like that.”

-Following the Natale Portman kerfuffle, Moby has called off the rest of his book tour as well as “all upcoming public appearances for the foreseeable future,” saying “I’m going to go away for a while.”

-As if we needed another reason to stan her, Meghan Markle has reportedly bowed out of meeting Trump.

Prince Harry took a commercial flight and his fellow passengers couldn’t help but sneak pics of him.

-This makes a lot of sense: CBS announced it will air season 1 of CBS All Access’ The Good Fight this summer, beginning June 16. While I think season 2 is better, this whole show is so, so good!

-I was scared to see Alex Trebek‘s name trending earlier today, but it’s good news! A few months after revealing he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he says he’s “near remission,” telling People: “It’s kind of mind-boggling … The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory … some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

Laura Dern just graced us with this perfect IG post and the world doesn’t deserve her.

Ashton Kutcher testified today in the murder trial for the man accused of killing his friend, Ashley Ellerin. The actor testified that he went to Ellerin’s house the night she was murdered to pick her up for drinks, but there was no answer so he assumed she wasn’t home. He said when he looked in her window, he saw what he thought were red wine stains on her carpet.

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix might be engaged.

-This video of Will Smith talking to kids at the Aladdin premiere is all kinds of precious.

-While doing press for Avu DuVernay‘s new Netflix series When They See Us, Joshua Jackson talked about confronting his blind spots as a white man. DuVernay praised his comments, tweeting: “When I first met with [him], I didn’t know what to expect. Certainly not THIS. Had never had a convo like that with a white actor. He surprised me in the most unexpected, beautiful way.”

-When They See Us star Aurora Perrineau talked to Glamour about the series, as well as that apology she got from Lena Dunham, who initially didn’t believe Perrineau’s allegations that Girls writer and exec producer Murray Miller had assaulted her when she was 17.

-The current showrunner of The Chi, who started in season two, has gone public on the misconduct claims surrounding actor Jason Mitchell, telling the Hollywood Reporter: “I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well…. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena [Waithe].” Meanwhile, show creator Waithe maintains that she was told of the actor’s alleged actions only after the first season wrapped. (Even if that’s the case, the show didn’t drop Mitchell until its current third season.)

-I really needed this video of Lil Nas X surprising elementary kids today.

-I really liked these details about the vocal-technique work Michelle Williams did to prepare for her performance in Fosse/Verdon. I definitely need to catch up on this show.

Ansel Elgort posted 17 shirtless pics in a row on Insta, and everyone is very confused.

-Speaking of Ansel, the trailer for The Goldfinch, starring him, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Paulson, dropped today. That was one of those books I read because everyone kept gushing over it, but I found it a bit of a slog. But if you like long and very detailed passages about the art of woodworking, it’ll be your jam.
