Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph Talk Comedy, Bechdel Tests

-I honestly cannot wait for Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph‘s Netflix comedy Wine Country, and their Vanity Fair feature makes me even more excited.

–Jennifer Lawrence and Adele delighted onlookers this weekend when they turned up to play drinking games at a gay bar in the West Village. I always forget that they’ve been friends for a while.

–Barbra Streisand had to clarify her Michael Jackson remarks after the backlash, saying she feels ‘nothing but sympathy” for the victims.

-I thought the trailers were really iffy, so I’m surprised by the glowing reviews Shazam is getting.

–Shane West attended his A Walk to Remember costar Mandy Moore‘s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which warms my cold cold heart.

-Mel B confirmed she and Geri Halliwell had a brief fling during the Spice Girls’ glory days. “(Geri) is going to hate me for this because she is all posh in her country house and her husband, but it’s a fact. It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it.”

–Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck publicly feuded on The View, but in her new book O’Donnell admits to crushing on her cohost. “I think there were underlying lesbian undertones on both parts.”

-Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was directed by a female, but a dude gets the sequel.

-The fifth and final season of Jane the Virgin debuts Wednesday and the reviews of the final batch of episodes are gushingly positive.

-Meanwhile, while Phoebe Waller-Bridge leaving Killing Eve, the reviews for season 2 aren’t as across-the-board positive as they were in the first season.

-I’ll never be brave enough to watch it, but I love that Jordan Peele‘s Us had a historic weekend at the box office.

-These two little kids did a cover of Radiohead’s Creep on The Voice Germany and I can’t stop listening to it.

-The rumours that Avengers: Endgame might actually be 3 hours long are gaining traction. FML.

-18 years ago today Bjork wore the swan dress to the Oscars. Never forget!

-Apple trotted out a bunch of big name (mostly white) celebrities to announce their new TV offering today — but we didn’t learn much. It will launch on Apple devices and smart TVs in the fall (meaning they’ll miss this year’s Emmy eligibility). It will be ad-free, VOD (everything downloadable), get new titles added every month, and also allow you to watch your other paid TV subscription services like Hulu and Amazon Prime. But there was no word on pricing, when each show will debut, whether all episodes of said shows will drop at once, etc. But hey, Oprah is doing a couple of documentaries and a book club for them so…yay?

-Also, it’s crazy that they didn’t show trailers for any of their new shows — just a quick sizzle reel even though series like The Morning Show, starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell, has apparently already filmed. And having Steven Spielberg there to shill for Apple’s new streaming service in light of his Netflix stance was beyond odd.

–Legends of Tomorrow returns next week and I honestly can’t wait. This show is pure joy.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Are Engaged

–Orlando Bloom proposed to Katy Perry on Valentine’s Day, which is a very Orlando Bloom-y thing to do.

-This is a really good interview with Meg Ryan, in which she talks about burning out and the pressures of being America’s sweetheart. I love her metaphor for fame: “Ever get in a car — maybe it’s a superexpensive car — and the inside’s lovely, you can’t complain about it, but you can’t hear anything outside, because there’s so much metal? There’s so much between you and everything else. You’re at a disadvantage as a young, famous person because you don’t know who’s telling you the truth.”

-There was a very, very disturbing tweet from a Chicago news reporter last night that suggested Jussie Smollett may have staged his racist attack because he was worried he was be written out Empire. Fox Entertainment immediately denied that possibility and stood by the actor, and Empire producer Danny Strong tweeted that there was “0% truth he was being written off,” and police say there is no evidence that it was staged. Meanwhile, two suspects have been arrested.

-Whenever I see video from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s house, I get so confused. How is she calling this their living room? Where is their furniture? It’s just a big, cavernous white space. Do they have a whole wing that they devote just to IG videos?

–Terry Crews talked about what it’s like to be the leading male voice in the #MeToo movement: “It feels scary, there’s no other way to really describe. I’ve had a lot of men who are very, very angry. They’re angry at me because I’ve changed the narrative. The only way I can describe it is that there’s a movie that everybody’s playing in their head and the movie doesn’t end up the way they want it.”

-I’m in love with every single thing we’re hearing about Amazon’s Good Omens series, which will premiere on May 31.

-Showtime’s new comedy series Desus & Mero is getting crazy buzz that’s to glowing early reviews, a stellar writing team, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as their first guest.

-Here’s the first trailer for Killing Eve season 2, which seems to pick up exactly where we left off.

-After heavy-hitting celebs like Brad Pitt, Alfonso Cuaron and George Clooney blasted the Oscars for planning to hand out Best Editing and Best Cinematography during commercial breaks, the Academy is now saying we all misunderstood. Uh huh.

-This photo that JJ Abrams tweeted out to celebrate the last day of shooting on Star Wars Episode IX is all kinds of perfect.

-Finding out that Tom Cruise’s character is Collateral was named Vincent Collateral has greatly enriched my life.

-R. Kelly might soon be indicted in Illinois, based on a new 45-min video that allegedly shows the singer sexually assaulting an underage girl.

-I’ve always wanted good things for Mandy Moore, but now I really, really want them following that New York Time’s article on Ryan Adams.

-Hurrah! Jared Leto‘s Joker spinoff has reportedly been shelved.

–Mark Ruffalo still gives good Twitter.

-Sending out good vibes to Justin Bieber, who is reportedly seeking professional help for depression.

-Early tracking for Captain Marvel place it at a $100M opening and I want it to crush that!

-I wasn’t going to watch Netflix’s Umbrella Academy but this dance scene clip might have just changed my mind.

-It’s not surprising that Netflix has ordered a sequel to The Kissing Booth, but can they make the next one less problematic?

-Apple is set to show the first clips of their originals shows at an event in March — and hopefully announce where/how we can watch them.

–Nicholas Hoult plays a hot young J.R.R. Tolkien in the first Tolkien trailer.

-In the trailer for Long Shot, Charlize Theron plays a presidential candidate and Seth Rogen plays the schlubby journalist who catches her eye, and damned if I’m not totally charmed by this whole thing!

Oprah Interviews Julia Roberts For Harper’s Bazaar

-In the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Oprah chats with Julia Roberts, who talks about her kids coming to the realization that she’s not your average mom (‘Are you more famous than Taylor Swift?’), grapples with her feelings about Instagram (“One weekend morning [my niece] Emma [Roberts] slept over, and we got up and were having tea and playing cards and having this beautiful morning, and then a couple of days later she posted a picture of us. And the number of people who felt absolutely required to talk about how terrible I looked in the picture — that I’m not aging well, that I look like a man, why would she even post a picture like this when I look that terrible! And I was amazed at how that made me feel”), and reveals how she celebrated her 50th with her husband (“I said, ‘How about this? We have five days away with zero contact with the outside world.’ That was 50, and it was so beautiful and wonderful. It was just the two of us, and there was a point where I thought, ‘Gosh, this is kind of weird.'”).

–George Clooney presented an award to Emma Gonzalez at Variety’s Power of Women ceremony, saying “These are trying times, and trying times create inspirational leaders.” (Also, bless him for introducing himself as “Amal Clooney’s husband”.)

-There were lots of great speeches at the ceremony. Natalie Portman outlined what women in Hollywood can do: “Gossip well. Stop the rhetoric that a woman is crazy or difficult. If a man says to you that a woman is crazy or difficult, ask him: what bad thing did you do to her?” Tiffany Haddish advised to “be yourself and don’t try to be something that you’re not, because that’s when you become a bitter-ass bitch.”

–Princess Eugenie got married today and her open-back wedding dress was lovely, but Cara Delevingne stole the show by showing up in a top hat and tails.

–Neil Patrick Harris was on The View this week and had a very strange exchange with Whoopi Goldberg about sex. You ok, Doogie?

-This review of the soundtrack to A Star Is Born by someone who hasn’t seen the movie yet made me laugh out loud repeatedly. There were so many good bits, but this might be my fave: “This track was when I fully realized that, to borrow parlance from Vulture associate editor and top-five favorite Twitter user Hunter Harris, I wanted Bradley Cooper to [redacted] me by the [redacted] and [redacted] my [redacted] until we [redacted] at the same time because it seems like that would be possible with him.”

–Ryan Adams has apologized for those butthurt tweets about Mandy Moore. “I apologize for my remarks. I was trying to be funny. But I have and will always choose to remember the amazing moments.”

-This is an interesting look at exactly how many men’s lives have been “ruined” since #MeToo started a year ago this week. (Spoiler alert: not many.)

–Hugh Jackman‘s tweets about turning 50 are predictably charming.

–Shiri Appleby is out here reuniting with all her old costars. Last week it was her Life Unexpected crew, this week Roswell.

-Marvel has fired Chuck Wendig and I don’t really know a lot about the comics world but my Twitter feed is NOT HAVING IT.

-Is new show FBI seriously on its third showrunner already? It’s only aired three episodes!

-Terrible: a crewmember on Sony’s Mr. Rogers pic died after a fall on set.

-This Johnny Depp press tour continues to be horrible. He’s not going to have any axes left to grind after this…

–Chris Hemsworth talks about being uneasy with his wealth in the new issue of GQ: “I feel gross about it. I remember saving up for a surfboard when I was younger. The surfboard was 600 bucks and I saved up for a whole year with Dad’s help. I didn’t even want to surf on it for fear of damaging it. It taught me so many lessons about appreciation and working hard for something. When I think about my kids, I don’t want them to miss that joy. Elsa and I talk a lot about how we instill that same appreciation and respect for things.”

–Usher dropped a surprise album this morning.

–Jaboukie Young-White‘s debut on The Daily Show was very, very good.

-I’m bummed that All American tanked in the ratings. On the plus side, it’s on the CW and they don’t seem to care about pesky little details like that…

-Here’s the first Aladdin teaser. I was hoping for a glimpse of Will Smith as the genie, but at least we get confirmation that Mena Massoud‘s Aladdin is hot.

–Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy complete M. Night Shyamalan‘s trilogy more than 18 years in the making in the new Glass trailer.

–Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell go head-to-head in the trailer for The Best of Enemies, which depicts the real-life feud and subsequent friendship between civil rights activist Ann Atwater and former Ku Klux Klan leader C.P. Ellis.
