-Squid Game is officially Netflix’s biggest show ever. Creator-writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk talked to THR about how its insane popularity has been altogether dumbfounding, and where he’d like to take season two.

-Speaking of the future of buzzy shows, Bill Lawrence is open to extending Ted Lasso beyond its original three-season plan. It sounds like it’s all up to Jason Sudeikis. However, even if the show continues, they’ll complete their current arc. “When we started, we plotted out everybody’s beginning, middle and end of a three-season arc. This story is going to be over next year, regardless, even if the show finds another story to tell and goes on.”

-iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy says she suffered years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her late mother.

-Oh god. Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos has doubled down on his defense of Dave Chappelle‘s special, saying “we have a strong belief that content on screen doesn’t directly translate to real-world harm.” Even though they are streaming the Disclosure documentary that features trans people clearly addressing this. Here’s a good piece on why Sarandos’ stance is hypocritical.

-Meanwhile, I watched the special to see what everyone was talking about, and I can’t believe that his story at the end about his late trans acquaintance Daphne is being held up by his fans as proof that he’s not anti-trans. That was the most disturbing part for me (this thread nails it). He even misgenders her in his kicker for the sake of a punchline! FWIW, her family has voiced their support of the special.

Prince William is calling out the billionaire-funded space race, saying it distracts in the fight against climate change. He’s not wrong.

This article about how “it’s an insult to authors not to finish each and every book you start” is such BS. I used to be a completist and have recently embraced DNF’ing books, and it’s made my life so much better. There are too many books in the world to waste your time on ones that aren’t working for you, and I’m guessing most authors care more that you bought it than read it.

-Amazon’s Jack Ryan has been renewed for season four, with John Krasinski returning and Michael Peña set to join the cast.

-I’m surprised that Ana de Armas has such a small role in the new Bond movie, given her appearance in the trailers. Looks like her breakthrough has been delayed again.

-I really liked this piece about how the current era of TV only tells stories about the really, really rich or the really, really poor.

-HBO Max’s documentary on Brittany Murphy is getting terrible reviews.

Leslie Odom Jr, Cynthia Erivo, Orlando Bloom, and Freida Pinto star in the trailer for John Ridley’s sci-fi romance Needle in a Timestack. Great trailer. Awful, awful title. (And awful take on women, according to critics who’ve seen the movie.)

-The new trailer for Disney’s Hawkeye sees Jeremy Renner‘s character struggling to give his kids a normal Christmas.

-The trailer for the George Clooney-directed  The Tender Bar starring Ben Affleck and Tye Sheridan has arrived. It follows a fatherless boy over the course of his childhood and early adulthood, whose uncle serves as his father figure.

Kieran Culkin on His Succession Success

Kieran Culkin‘s THR cover story is delightful. He opens up about his strange celebrity childhood, his fears about fame, and why everyone on the Succession set loves Sarah Snook.

-I liked this interview with Julianna Margulies on joining The Morning Show. “I went to Sarah Lawrence college. I think if there isn’t a better place to learn about what being gay is, I don’t know.”

-This article about Matthew Rhys on a boat is so very charming.

-Oh god. THR’s new story on how Hollywood is divided on vaccines includes a bit about how Letitia Wright, who is currently reprising her role as Princess Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as it films in Atlanta, has reportedly continued to express anti-vaccine skepticism on the set of the film.

Britney Spears‘ boyfriend Sam Asghari seems to be encouraging her that she return to the stage. Should she, though?

Emily Ratajkowski says the story about Robin Thicke allegedly groping her while shooting the Blurred Lines video was “frustrating” because that passage from her book “was leaked” against her will. “I feel like it just turns into a clickbait frenzy, and all of a sudden words like ‘sexual assault’ and ‘allegations’ are getting thrown around rather than people reading the actual essay, so, again, I’m just looking forward to when people will be able to hear things in my own words.”

Diplo may face criminal charges for sexual misconduct stemming from allegations in an October 2020 police report.

-A judge ruled that Charlie Sheen no longer has to pay child support, which ‘blindsided’ Denise Richards, according to her camp.

-Fans are going nuts about the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion trailer.

Jake Gyllenhaal was talking about shooting sex scenes with Jennifer Aniston in The Good Girl and explained that for intimate scenes, a pillow was placed between the actors. “The pillow technique was used. That was just preemptive and used generally always when actually in a horizontal place in that movie…I think that was actually a Jennifer suggestion. She was very kind to suggest it before we began. She was like, ‘I’m putting a pillow here.'” Smart!

-Squid Game’s Jung Ho-yeon has just been named a Global House Ambassador for Louis Vuitton. I love her and want only good things for her.

-Meanwhile, this Halloween’s hottest costume is the Squid Game jumpsuit.

-According to reviews, Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever will break your heart in Dopesick, Hulu’s harrowing drama about the origins of the opioid crisis in America. It looks so good, and yet I don’t think I have it in me to watch something that dark right now.

-Here’s the trailer for the musical Cyrano, from director Joe Wright and starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

Kristen Stewart Learns To Embrace the Buzz

A closeup of a blonde Kristen Stewart on the cover of EW

Kristen Stewart covers EW’s fall movie issue and talks about the growing Oscar buzz surrounding her (“You want to win, we’re all animals. Artists want to engage with the world and have larger conversations. Even though it doesn’t seem like I’m somebody who wants to be extremely famous, I still want this conversation to be expansive”) and being more choosy (“I used to be really intentionally the opposite of precious in terms of choosing projects. For a minute there I was like, ‘I’ll do f**king anything!’ And honestly, it was a good place to be for a minute. But I think now I’m going to be a little more careful. I think I have a better nose for what’s going to be fruitful for me personally, as an experience, if not necessarily what’s going to thrive out in the world”). Also, this is a very non-EW photo shoot and I love it, especially the video that opens the story.

Angelina Jolie just sold her stake in a French château and winery business to a third party, capping a yearslong fight in which she and her ex-husband Brad Pitt battled over its future. Ok, but can I still get its delicious, delicious rosé?

-This is lovely: Wayne Brady is co-parenting his ex-wife and her boyfriend’s new baby. “He’s gonna call me Duncle (Daddy/Uncle) because I plan on being around and doing all that stuff.”

Kacey Musgraves confirmed that she really was naked during her SNL performance last weekend.

-Speaking of new music, Mitski is back!

Drew Barrymore weighed in on the fight between Lucy Liu and Bill Murray on the set of the 2000 movie Charlie’s Angels. “What really happened was Bill was just in a—you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes, and he just came in in a bad mood. And what you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance. She literally said, ‘I do not accept that kind of behavior from you.’ And we all supported her and backed her up and we moved forward.”

-An LA Law sequel starring Blair Underwood has been ordered by ABC, with more original cast members expected to return.

-Aw man, I don’t watch The Resident but it sucks for fans when a main actor leaves a show without being given a proper goodbye and they have to use a clips montage.

-Judging by this new clip, it looks like Succession’s third season will pick up moments after the season 2 finale, with Kendall dealing with the aftermath of his bombshell press conference. (Karolina‘s expression when she says “Ok” to Cousin Greg is priceless.)

-Also, the reviews for the new season are glowing.

John Cena is the butt of all the jokes in first clip from HBO Max’s Peacemaker series.

-Here’s the first teaser for the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, that’s due next year. There’s a weird lack of dragons in this clip.
