Anne Heche On Ex Ellen Degeneres

Anne-Heche-Ellen-DeGeneres

-If anyone was going to spill the tea about Ellen Degeneres, I expected it to be her ex, Anne Heche. But in a new interview, she says: “Our time was a beautiful part of my life and one that I wear with honour,” adding “I haven’t spoken to Ellen in years. I’d listen to the people who have.” She also praised a pair of male costars: “There have been two men who fought for me to be seen for my talent and not my headlines: Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford.”

Ryan Reynolds has sold his American Aviation Gin business in a deal worth up to $610 million.

Ryan also recorded a message for BC after the province saw an uptick in cases among young people due to an increase of parties: “I hope that young people in BC don’t kill my mom or David Susuki…or each other. Let’s not kill anyone! I think that’s reasonable.”

-Meanwhile, Seth Rogen tweeted: “People of British Columbia! Please do not go out to parties and BBQs and other large gatherings! The COVID is still out there! It’s more fun to hang out alone and smoke weed and watch movies and TV shows anyway! Do that instead! Thank you!”

-On Saturday, Taylor Swift took to Twitter to accuse Trump of engaging in a “calculated dismantling” of the US Postal Service, adding he’s trying to “blatantly cheat” the election. Interestingly, this comes when she’s trying to make a foray back into country music.

-Meanwhile, Taylor revealed all the easter eggs in her “Cardigan” video.

Cardi B had a 16-min Zoom chat with Joe Biden and asked him about healthcare and education for all, and police brutality.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are reuniting … for a table read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Angelina Jolie talked about the “chaos” of her household during covid: “I’ve been on high level meetings where there’s dogs and balls and kids and things. You kind of just enjoy being human with everybody else and laughing through it.” She says they’ve also been enjoying movie nights. “Well, we’re all there. So, all six kids, my oldest son’s home from Korea. Lots of popcorn and just like really every family, we’re just pajamas, robes, snacks.”

Sharon Stone is urging everyone to wear their masks as she shared that her sister is battling the coronavirus, saying “One of you Non-Mask wearers did this.” She added that her sister’s husband is also fighting for his life, that her grandmother and godmother have already died of covid, and that healthcare workers and others can’t get tested in Montana, where her family lives.

-The Crown has found their Princess Diana for the final two seasons: Elizabeth Debick. I love her and this is exquisite casting.

-I love how much attention the Williams Twins are getting with their YouTube videos. Alicia Keys is the latest to shout them out for their review of her “Fallin'”.

-The @ArmasUpdates account does not seem to exist anymore and I am bereft.

-With production not yet returning on most shows, networks are having to get creative in how they film and where they find content to fill prime-time holes this fall TV season.

Jensen Ackles has already lined up his post-Supernatural gig. He’s heading to the new season of The Boys.

-I had no idea that Lovecraft Country star Jurnee Smollett is the sister of embattled Empire alum Jussie Smollett.

Millie Bobby Brown is Sherlock’s sleuthing younger sister in Netflix’s Enola Holmes teaser.

-In the trailer for The Secrets We Keep, a housewife (Noomi Rapace) kidnaps her neighbor (Joel Kinnaman) and seeks vengeance for the heinous war crimes she believes he committed against her 15 years earlier. Chris Messina costars as her husband.

Angelina Jolie’s Family Photographer

-For Angelina Jolie‘s interview for Harper’s Bazaar, she was photographed by her youngest son, Knox. She talks about how the pandemic is affecting victims of domestic violence and girls’ education.

-In a recent interview, Lil Twist claims that Justin Bieber‘s team once convinced him to take on drug charges for the singer (likely referring to an incident in July of 2013, when he was pulled over in Bieber’s car and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana). He said: “If they would have put weed charges on Justin in his early career, it would have been bad on him. So I got a call one day saying, ‘Twist, do you really love this kid?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ They said, ‘Cool, if you love him then you can take the heat for him because you can come off a little weed charge.” Lil Twist later released a statement on his comments: “We are at a very critical point in society as we rewrite a new narrative that encompasses the experience of being Black in America. However, rewriting a new narrative requires one to stand in and speak his or her truth with confidence…In the spirit of being authentic, I felt it a disservice to my fans and the general public to not be completely transparent about my experience.”

Kristen Bell is promoting her new children’s book on racism and is getting a lot of blowback for glorifying colourblindness, as it comes perilously close to declaring Purple Lives Matter. There’s no mention of her donating the profits to a BLM charity but my god, let’s hope she’s not making money off this.

-Also, she’s in a new animated show voicing a biracial character who spends her free time drawing herself as a superhero whose afro puffs have powers? What??

Anthony Mackie appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show and gave a tearful talk about the importance of voting.

Taylor Swift is once again speaking up, using Twitter to call on the Tennessee Historical Commissions to remove statues of racist historical figures.

Jennifer Lopez and ARod are asking fans to name their new puppy and you know what guys, we are a little busy right now!

Dave Chappelle dropped a new short-form Netflix special titled “8:46,” which the streaming platform surprise debuted for free on its YouTube comedy channel late last night. (The title refers to how long Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee against George Floyd’s neck.)

Jessica Mulroney deleted all of her supportive comments to Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder, who was recently fired. Shinan is reporting that Mulroney’s family had been asking her to cut down on her social media but she wouldn’t stop.

-The Bachelor is getting its first Black leading man. Originally, Matt James was cast as a suitor on Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette but when production was halted due to COVID-19, ABC started thinking of a new role for him. (It’s really weird that there’s no mention of the fact that the show was once sued by Black men for discrimination.)

-Despite both an NYT article and a Buzzfeed article questioning if Anna Wintour can survive the social justice movement, in a company-wide town hall today at Conde Nast, Roger Lynch reportedly said there is “no truth” to the rumour that she’s stepping down. Still, the rumours continue to circulate.

-Speaking of upheavals in publications, this report on Refinery29’s workplace culture is damning.

-I love how all the Harry Potter actors are condemning J.K. Rowling‘s ant-trans comments, including Emma Watson, Bonnie Wright and Rupert Grint. The kids are alright.

-This is an interesting piece on how Rowling‘s focus on denying trans rights may seem to have come out of nowhere, but there’s a clear lineage of transphobic thought in British media.

Kelly Clarkson‘s estranged husband is also her manager, which might make this divorce even more awkward. He also manages Blake Shelton, Kelly’s The Voice co-star.

Sharon Stone revealed she was once struck by lighting: “I was filling the iron with water. I had one hand on the faucet, one hand on the iron and the well got hit with lightning and the lighting came up through the water … I got picked up and thrown across the kitchen, and I hit the refrigerator. I was like, ‘Whoa!’ ”

-Scream Factory wants to release the original version of Event Horizon. See what the Snyder Cut has wrought?!?

-The Oscars will now include a locked 10 Best Picture slots — no more variation in a move aimed at diversifying nominees by literally adding more seats at the table for the final ceremony.

Will Arnett is a dad again.

-This week was hard and listening to this weird ass new song by Glass Animals got me through it. I love how the second half of the video shows how he recorded it during quarantine.

-The trailer for Netflix’s Feel the Beat is ticking a lot of my boxes:  it looks adorably cheesy, it was shot in Toronto, it’s about dancing, and it costars the dad from Veronica Mars and the best friend from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Lupita Nyong’o Covers British Vogue

Lupita Nyong’o Covers British Vogue

Lupita Nyong’o’s first ever British Vogue cover is stunning. She talks about her decision to stay mum on her personal life (“Privacy is a commodity that is hard to come by”), what she looks for in a script (“I don’t get fulfillment from the number of zeros attached to a project. What I’m seduced by is the potential to shift a narrative. That is very seductive to me, having social and cultural impact”) and hanging out with costars (“Filming is so time-consuming. And intense. With Black Panther, a lot of us were single. On Little Monsters, nobody was single. Everyone, when they’re done with their day’s work, wants to go home to their families, which makes a whole lot of sense. When you don’t have that it’s very isolating”).

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their 7-month-old reportedly flew to Toronto over the holidays to see friends, including Meghan’s BFF Jessica Mulroney. They later met up with Meghan’s mom in Victoria.

Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello also spent time in Toronto over the holidays (though she wasn’t spotted with him on NYE).

-Congrats to Michelle Williams, who is reportedly pregnant and engaged to Hamilton director Thomas Kail. They met on set while working on the FX show Fosse/Verdon, which Kail directed.

-Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator/star Rachel Bloom, who is 7 months pregnant, got stranded on the side of the road with her husband in Bakersfield and tweeted that they were going to sleep in their car, so a couple invited them into their home.

-Tragic news: prolific television producer Jenji Kohan (creator of Orange Is The New Black and Weeds) is mourning the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, who died following a ski accident in Utah.

Beyoncé posted a black screen on Instagram 10 minutes before midnight on NYE, and the internet lost its poo, thinking it was another surprise album drop. The comments under the post were hilarious (my fave was “Bey MAAM, I’m poor, go to sleep”). But she quickly followed it up with a video retrospective of her highlights of the decade.

Megan Thee Stallion and Zendaya attended Beyoncé‘s NYE party.

-This is weird: eleven of the last 14 seasons of Survivor — including each of the last five — have been won by men.

Sharon Stone was blocked from the Bumble dating app — for impersonating Sharon Stone.

Busy Philips did an IG post about the shitty way she found out her E! show was being cancelled, and it included screenshots of the hilariously profane letter her daughter wrote to the network.

Florence Pugh, 23, does not seem to love it when people remind her that her BF Zach Braff is 44.

Jodie Turner Smith said the nude photo she posted on IG was “not a thirst trap” since her hubby, Joshua Jackson, took the pic. Works for me.

Whitney Houston‘s family continues to be plagued by tragedy. Nick Gordon, who dated Houston’s late daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, died Wednesday in Florida following a reported drug overdose.

-Bombshell is bombing at the box office. I saw it yesterday and I walked out with the same question as this person: “who exactly was that for?!”

-The performances were good though, especially Margot Robbie. Things are already looking up for her in 2020 — she’s confirmed that Jared Leto will not appear as Joker in Birds of Prey.

-In other Joker-related news, no one is doing more to make me feel better about not seeing Joker than its director, Todd Phillips. In a new interview, he claims the success of the Joaquin Phoenix-led film had nothing to do with the character’s connection to Batman.

-Also, the fact that Phillips packed the movie with homages to his hero Martin Scorsese — only to have Scorsese admit he hasn’t seen it — is amazing. (“I saw clips of it. I know it. So it’s like, why do I need to. I get it. It’s fine.”) The other amazing part of that Scorsese interview is when he basically says that he talked all that shit about Marvel movies in the press so that he could get a meeting with Disney’s Bob Iger about film preservation.

Kim Kardashian did NOT give her daughter the shirt John F. Kennedy was shot in as a Christmas present. Just in case you were worried about that.

-This is probably the review of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that best captures how I felt about it.

-Meanwhile, a wild Reddit conspiracy theory about why the new Star Wars is so bad has made #ReleaseTheJJCut a trending topic. Look, big studios are always going to have notes and demand changes, for better or worse. That’s how blockbusters are made. That doesn’t mean Disney was trying to purposefully torpedo J.J. Abrams‘ reputation so his future WB/DC projects would tank. That’s ridiculous. (And also, Chris Terrio was hired to co-write Rise of Skywalker on the heels of two terrible Justice League movies and Batman V Superman, so the actual movie this conspiracy theory is about disproves the idea that one bad film could actually tank a white man’s Hollywood career).

-Not to mention the fact that of the five Disney-era Star Wars movies since 2015, only The Last Jedi didn’t have a production crisis.

-Speaking of Star Wars, now that he’s no longer under contract John Boyega has gone a little wild on social media. I don’t particularly love jokes about “laying the pipe” with Rey or when actors make fun of shippers, but it’s kind of fun to see him completely unleash.

-As of yesterday, Friends is no longer be available to stream in the U.S. on Netflix. I wonder if and how that’s going to affect this year’s subscription numbers.

-I binged the entire second season of You this holiday break. I’m happy with that decision.

-Here’s the new trailer for A Quiet Place 2. It’s still quiet, and still creepy.
