Kristen Stewart Learns To Embrace the Buzz

A closeup of a blonde Kristen Stewart on the cover of EW

Kristen Stewart covers EW’s fall movie issue and talks about the growing Oscar buzz surrounding her (“You want to win, we’re all animals. Artists want to engage with the world and have larger conversations. Even though it doesn’t seem like I’m somebody who wants to be extremely famous, I still want this conversation to be expansive”) and being more choosy (“I used to be really intentionally the opposite of precious in terms of choosing projects. For a minute there I was like, ‘I’ll do f**king anything!’ And honestly, it was a good place to be for a minute. But I think now I’m going to be a little more careful. I think I have a better nose for what’s going to be fruitful for me personally, as an experience, if not necessarily what’s going to thrive out in the world”). Also, this is a very non-EW photo shoot and I love it, especially the video that opens the story.

Shakira reflects on her participation in the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show in Cosmopolitan’s November issue.

John Boyega walks GQ through his fashion choices: “I’ve worn everything from Louis Vuitton catwalk looks to traditional Nigerian dress… I’m still trying to work my style out, I’m incredibly curious to see where it can go and how far I can push it.”

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons opened up their house to Architectural Digest and I’m swooning!

Shannen Doherty says it wasn’t long after she learned her breast cancer had recurred that she took the job on the 90210 reboot and only Brian Austin Green knew about it.

Angelina Jolie just sold her stake in a French château and winery business to a third party, capping a yearslong fight in which she and her ex-husband Brad Pitt battled over its future. Ok, but can I still get its delicious, delicious rosé?

-This is lovely: Wayne Brady is co-parenting his ex-wife and her boyfriend’s new baby. “He’s gonna call me Duncle (Daddy/Uncle) because I plan on being around and doing all that stuff.”

Kacey Musgraves confirmed that she really was naked during her SNL performance last weekend.

-How excited are people for new Adele music? This new clip to announce a single will drop on Oct 15 got over 9 million views.

-Speaking of new music, Mitski is back!

Drew Barrymore weighed in on the fight between Lucy Liu and Bill Murray on the set of the 2000 movie Charlie’s Angels. “What really happened was Bill was just in a—you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes, and he just came in in a bad mood. And what you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance. She literally said, ‘I do not accept that kind of behavior from you.’ And we all supported her and backed her up and we moved forward.”

-HBO revealed that the new Sex and the City sequel series will premiere in Dec.

-The creator of Squid Game is open to a second season, but it would require a lot of time and someone other than him doing all the writing.

-An LA Law sequel starring Blair Underwood has been ordered by ABC, with more original cast members expected to return.

-Aw man, I don’t watch The Resident but it sucks for fans when a main actor leaves a show without being given a proper goodbye and they have to use a clips montage.

-Judging by this new clip, it looks like Succession’s third season will pick up moments after the season 2 finale, with Kendall dealing with the aftermath of his bombshell press conference. (Karolina‘s expression when she says “Ok” to Cousin Greg is priceless.)

-Also, the reviews for the new season are glowing.

John Cena is the butt of all the jokes in first clip from HBO Max’s Peacemaker series.

-Here’s the first teaser for the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, that’s due next year. There’s a weird lack of dragons in this clip.

Zoë Kravitz is a Triple Threat

Zoë Kravitz wears a fur vest on the cover of Another magazine

-In a new interview with Another, Zoë Kravitz is branching out from acting and working on a solo album with Jack Antonoff, as well as finishing her directorial debut, Pussy Island. The accompanying photos are a little more topless than I need, because apparently I’m turning into my mother…

Lena Dunham wore three wedding dresses inspired by Claudia Schiffer, Priscilla Presley and Sharon Tate at her London wedding last weekend.

Jake Gyllenhaal and his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu made their first public appearance together at the premiere of his sister’s new movie. The 40-year-old actor has been linked to 25-year-old model since 2018.

-On this week’s celebrity news bingo, I did not have “Shakira attacked by wild boars“.

Aaron Sorkin spoke about the downfall of producer Scott Rudin. “First of all, I have my own experience with Scott, and it’s a higher class of bullying, but I get it.” (I’m more interested by the fact that Josh Charles, who starred in Sorkin’s Sports Night, does not seem to like the interview.)

This whole thread on Ellen Pompeo is eye-opening, and very much incongruent to how she presents herself as an ally. I know this onset behavior is common (and with actors much lower on the callsheet) but I still can’t believe she volunteered that Denzel story up in a podcast, much less that she did so at the same time a tell-all book is dropping that doesn’t seem to paint her in a great light. Like, why?

Jamie Spears released a lengthy statement through his lawyer after the court suspended him.

-Meanwhile, Britney Spears is flying high — literally.

-In a new TED Talk, Lizzo opens up about how twerking helped her appreciate her body and delves into the history behind the dance move.

Lil Nas X says he’s currently single. “I just want to work on music, and every now and then, you know, maybe I’ll kiss a guy every blue moon.”

Kate Middleton got up close and personal with a tarantula named Charlotte. Prince William did not.

Graham Norton credits Tom Cruise for getting celebrities comfortable enough to come back into his studio for in-person interviews.

Daniel Craig has been alerted to the weekend meme. He immediately recognized that it’s not the worst thing to be associated with kicking off what we’re all looking forward to, saying “They do? It’s amazing. I don’t know what that is, but thank you. That’s lovely.”

-To say the reviews for Venom: Let There Be Carnage are mixed would be kind. It’s currently 61% on RottenTomatoes (a drop of 10% since I looked this morning). Some outlets, like the L.A. Times and the Washington Post, gave it raves, but a lot of critics are piling on the venom, calling it a ‘ridiculous mess’ and a ‘porn tentacle fest’ that feels like ‘the mold in the Avengers’ shower.’

Lily-Rose Depp (who is everywhere lately) falls in love with a guy who thinks he’s a wolf (George MacKay) in the Wolf trailer.

-Here’s the first teaser for Disney’s Encanto.

Janelle Monae Makes The Cut

janelle-monae-the-cut

Janelle Monae‘s cover story for The Cut was written by Roxane Gay, so you know it’s good. Monae talks her fear of the 2016 election results feuling her Dirty Computer album (“It started with who don’t I mind pissing off. I don’t mind pissing off conservatives. I don’t mind pissing off white men. I don’t give a fuck. This is about celebrating. I wanted to celebrate queer black people living outside of what it meant to be American”), and her method approach to shooting her new film Antebellum (“I want that spirit to always stay on-camera so I don’t break. I don’t talk on the phone a lot … I don’t want that to take me out of my space).

-Meanwhile, Roxane Gay also shared her thoughts on American Dirt and the West Side Story revival.

-Oscars are this weekend! The big acting awards seem locked (Joaquin Phoenix, Renée Zellweger, Brad Pitt, Laura Dern) but can Parasite’s increasing recognition mean it’ll cause an upset in best picture? God, I would love that.

Joaquin used his BAFTA acceptance speech this weekend to call out the ceremony’s lack of diversity, adding “I think that it is the obligation of the people that have created and perpetuate and benefit from a system of oppression to dismantle it so that’s on us.” This is a very, very good speech (especially since in the last few years of award shows, it’s only been actresses making this kind of stand). But it’s also very much like…ok, now what? At this point, Hollywood needs to start taking concrete steps to dismantle the system. Inclusion riders? Refusing to work with only white male directors? What’s it going to be?

-Meanwhile, Prince William, who is BAFTA’s president(!), revealed that the academy has “launched a full and thorough review of the entire awards process” following the #BAFTAsSoWhite controversy.

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith went to the BAFTAs and remain the cutest thing.

-People didn’t love Rebel Wilson’s speech but I dunno — I laughed at her Cats jokes.

Hugh Grant made Bridget Jones’s Diary references when he presented after Renée Zellweger at the BAFTAs, and it was perfect.

-12 days after reportedly getting married, Pamela Anderson is single again.

Megan Thee Stallion is apparently dating G Eazy and people have a lot of opinions about it.

-Speaking of new relationships, Lady Gaga is dating a CEO named Michael Polansky.

-The reviews for Hulu’s High Fidelity, starring Zoe Kravitz, are good. Really good.

-I binged the last six episodes of Bojack Horseman and I still can’t believe that an animated show about a horse makes my ‘best TV in the last decade’ list, but there it is. It’s also weirdly the third series finale I’ve seen this week with a door-to-death concept.

David Schwimmer is walking back his comment about “Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends.” In a lengthy response to a post from actress Erika Alexander, he explained “I didn’t mean to imply Living Single hadn’t existed or indeed hadn’t come before Friends, which I knew it had.”

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira‘s Super Bowl performance was fire! In case you missed it (or just want to relive the glory) it’s on YouTube.

-Coach dropped their perfectly timed campaign with JLo hours after her performance.

-As per usual, the Super Bowl brought with it a bunch of new movie and TV trailers. On the TV front, Marvel gave us a peek at The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki, while on the film side we have our first Bond trailer, a new look at Mulan and the Top Gun sequel, and a new Black Widow trailer.
