Bradley Cooper Joined Lady Gaga Onstage for Surprise Duet

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were shut out of the SAGs, but they made up for it when he joined her on stage in Vegas for a surprise duet of “Shallow.

-The SAG Awards were a pretty low-key affair last night, but at least the red carpet was pretty.

-In case you missed last night’s telecast, the best speeches are here: from Chadwick Boseman and Sandra Oh.

-This is Us won best TV ensemble, but really I’d rather watch Sterling K Brown and his wife’s victory clap than another episode of that show.

-Though Black Panther won the top prize at the SAGs, it doesn’t change much for the Oscars because it doesn’t tend to be a great predictor.  The SAG winner has gone on to win the best picture Oscar in only 11 of 23 years. It’s still probably Roma vs Green Book.

-Wait, now the Oscars might drop Best Cinematography from the telecast? Come on!

Liam Hemsworth talked about his “spur-of-the-moment” wedding to Miley Cyrus.

-Yay for Mindy Kaling! Her new movie Late Night broke Sundance records when it was bought for $13M by Amazon Studios. I love how she talked about it: “I wrote it for Emma Thompson. A person I did not know! So I was just this creep in my home writing fan fiction movie for me and Emma Thompson, a woman I don’t know, hoping she would one day read it.”

-The four-hour Michael Jackson documentary premiered to a standing ovation at Sundance, and his estate is already fighting back.

Freida Pinto says L’Oreal lightened her skin in an ad campaign. “I said to my agent after the first controversy that I would like to see the pictures before, and I would like to be able to question them on colour correction.”

-Last night’s Rent Live wasn’t actually live because the guy who played Roger broke his foot at the second dress rehearsal and apparently they’ve never heard of understudies or wheelchair. It ended up getting the lowest ratings ever for a live musical so far.

-Who needs to wait for the Super Bowl to see the ads? Here is Cardi B’s Pepsi ad, while Carrie Bradshaw and The Dude return in a Stella Artois ad. (Because of course Carrie would drink beer?!?)

Diane Kruger says Norman Reedus has been teaching her a lot about how to stay calm as a parent.

-Freeform is teaming with Laurence Fishburne to tell the story of Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown and her daughter, Ericka Suzanne. The Gilmore Girls-meet-The Black Panthers pitch has me intrigued.

-I’m glad Netflix picked up Brie Larson‘s directorial debut, Unicorn Store. It got mixed reviews at TIFF but people seemed harsher to it than they needed to be.

Naomi Campbell‘s cover of British Vogue is everything!

Greg Berlanti, with a record 15 scripted series currently on the air, just landed his third pilot order of the season and his first at Fox. I mean, I love a lot of his shows but my god give someone else a shot, Hollywood!

-I’m not sure how I feel about Barry getting a season 2 (mostly because I adored how the first season ended), but this trailer is good.

-The only thing I know about Birds of Prey is from the CW which is … uh… not good. So I appreciated this explainer, because this teaser has me very excited. Chris Messina’s hair alone bought my ticket.

Best and Worst Dresses at 2016 SAG Awards

There were a lot of messes on the 2106 SAG Awards red carpet, but there were some winners too. Here are Nicole and my picks for best and worst dressed of the night:

BEST

After a big misstep with the white apron dress, Alicia Vikander‘s Louis Vuitton sequinned column dress is two in a row for gorgeous gowns this season. Her shiny, straight hair compliments the dress and simple bronze makeup nails the look. She’s probably my favourite of the night, especially when she turned on the red carpet and I saw the thigh-high slit. -Nicole

I have never, ever liked anything Gaby Hoffman has worn on a red carpet – but that changed tonight. Her Rachel Comey dress was weird and unique and super flattering. Add the punk hair (with visible greys!) and she was a total boss. She also recycled her shoes from a recent event.  I adore her. -Jen

I have loved Rachel McAdams‘ choices this season and her SAG Elie Saab gown is classically stunning. I do wish she’d worn a brighter lip but the un-fussy hair balanced out the structured dress. It’s super well done and the second time she’s been on my best list this season and impressively for a very different dress. -Nicole

Once again, Queen Latifah owns the red carpet. She’s the picture of simple elegance in a shimmery Michael Costello gown. -Jen

I’m not usually a fan of lace dresses, but Naomi Watts in blue Burberry is a vision. (And I’m not just saying that because it’s a longer version of an H&M dress that I’ve had for like, 8 years and every time I wear it someone compliments me on it – including Gillian Anderson!) -Jen

WORST

Dresses from this Gucci collection have turned up all over lately, including Dakota Johnson on The Tonight Show. I keep thinking that these dresses look as though they have walked out of a cartoon and Nicole Kidman‘s is no exception. The tiers are too fussy. -Nicole

Pairing a painful-looking topknot with a cheap-looking Romana Kevesa dress (featuring a figure skating outfitish mesh panel) was more than enough to secure Kaley Cuoco a spot on our worst dressed list. -Jen

I bemoaned the lack of lip colour tonight and I’ll give Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra props for her gorgeous lipstick. But this pink confection of a pouffy Monique Lhuillier dress is not my favourite. It’s very prom-y and does not do this beautiful girl justice. -Nicole

I don’t understand how stars can end up on a red carpet in an ill-fitting, poorly tailored dress. Sarah Silverman‘s Vivenne Westwood dress is the wrong colour, the wrong hemline, and worst of all, the wrong fit. (Gwedoline Christie‘s dress had the same issue.) -Jen

I saw Brie Larson‘s Versace dress from behind and thought the orange suspender detail was cute. Unfortunately the front was so fussy and busy that it all fell apart for me. She also looks so, so painfully thin. I’ve not been sold on Brie’s choices this awards season so here’s hoping she pulls it together for the big one.  -Nicole

Grumpy Frances McDormand Owns the SAG Awards

-If you missed last night’s SAG Awards, you missed Frances McDormand giving the most kick-ass acceptance speech ever. From looking annoyed that she won, to impatiently gesturing at JK Simmons to help her up the stairs, to using her time to plug her new project, it was like seeing a unicorn wrapped in a rainbow.

-The other big story at the SAGs is how Zach Galifianakis has transformed into an entirely different-looking person.

-Also, the mani-cam might have officially died last night. Whew!

-If only the person directing the Golden Globes had taken notes from whoever was manning the cameras at the SAGs. They managed to get a bunch of awesome cutaway crowd shots last night, from Sofia Vergara rolling her eyes after a clip of The Good Wife to Amanda Peet and Sarah Paulson grabbing each other’s butts.

-Also at the SAGs, Emma Stone accidentally tripped Naomi Watts and had the most delightful reaction.

Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o continue to have us wondering “are they or aren’t they?”

-That awkward moment when Rashida Jones had to remind a reporter that she’s black and not just “very tan.”

-I keep forgetting that Chelsea Peretti and Jordan Peele are dating and then I get so happy all over again.

-Did Chris Martin hit a paparazzo with his jeep?

-In other ‘celebs possibly behaving badly’ news, Emile Hirsch (‘member him?) might have assaulted a female film executive at Sundance. No arrests were made.

-Speaking of Sundance, critics are RAVING about a movie called Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Watch for it to explode.

-Also at Sundance, there was a great panel, moderated by Emily Nussbaum and featuring Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling, Jenji Kohan and Kristen Wiig. You can watch the full thing here.

-It was a bad day for breakups. Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams are divorcing after six years of marriage. This won’t be a surprise to anyone who’s caught up on their blind items, but it’s still sad. I interviewed her once and she was a goddamn delight.

-Speaking of breakups (and celebs who’ve been plagued by blind items), Patrick Dempsey and his wife are done after 15 years of marriage.

-Rumours about a possible romance between Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie are heating up at Sundance.

-The next time Russell Crowe or whoever starts mansplaining about how there are still good roles for women over 40, remember this: Dianne Wiest is having such a hard time finding work that she says she’s barely able to make rent.

-The Full House cast reunited for the show creator’s birthday party and ended up singing the show’s theme song.

Emma Watson will play Belle (and sing!) in a new, live-action Beauty and the Beast.

-Did ye ken? Here’s a new promo for The Outlander, plus the opening scene from its season premiere.

Lindsay Lohan is the latest star to suck at Photoshopping her own selfies.

Sophia Bush fangirling over Tatiana Maslany is all kinds of cute.

Joss Whedon says he wants to kill off The Avengers which was probably meant as a joke, but anyone who watched Buffy knows just how capable of pulverizing our hearts he is.

Tom Hanks likes manspreading? This is heartbreaking.

-The CW isn’t the only network betting big on superheroes. After months of speculation, Fox confirms they’re in talks to develop an X-Men series.

-Speaking of geeky goodness, David Tennant has just signed on to play a big bad in Netflix’s Jessica Jones.

-The more trailers that come out for The Duff, the more excited I get for it. After binging on “serious” movies to prep for the Oscars, I totally need some harmless fluff. Plus, they’re quoting The Breakfast Club! It’s like they’ve tapped into my brain!
