Patricia Arquette

TV’s Leading Ladies Talk Shop

Emilia Clarke, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski, Danai Gurira and Niecy Nash

-God, I love Emmy roundtable season! In THR’s new issue, drama actresses Emilia Clarke, Danai Gurira, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski and Niecy Nash gather to talk about pay parity, the pressure to look a certain way, and standing up for their characters. (I particularly liked this bit from Gurira: “I remember having an argument with the director [on Walking Dead] because I was like, ‘I know you have [this love scene] written here like this, but this is what you’re getting.’And I wrote it on the script and I handed it to him.”)

Nina Dobrev and screenwriter/director Grant Mello look blissed up in love in Cannes. I’m happy for her — she seemed to be going through it for a bit.

-A judge ordered Hayden Panettiere’s boyfriend Brian Hickerson to stay away from her after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge earlier this month.

-ABC’s live revival of classic Norman Lear sitcoms last night was weird and wonderful. I didn’t catch the whole thing but I did see Jennifer Hudson doing The Jefferson’s theme song, and Jamie Foxx‘s hilarious break in character.

Gabrielle Union says she’s coaching hubby Dwayne Wade on basic life skills now that he’s retired from basketball. “He’s like, ‘What is this place? There’s all kind of like khaki shorts and cargo shorts and there’s all different colors.’ I’m like, ‘That’s Old Navy’…He has no idea how much milk costs. He’s like, ‘What is that, $20?’ and I’m like, ‘What kind of goat’s blood milk [are you drinking]?'”

-Warner’s upcoming streaming service just landed Anna Kendrick to star in a romcom series.  Great, yet another subscription!

Lena Waithe did an amazing job last night guest-hosting for Kimmel, but everyone’s talking about the smooch Halle Berry laid on her which I found…weird. Isn’t it a little queerbaiting? Doesn’t Lena have a fiancée?

-Huh. ABC cancelled Whiskey Cavalier a couple of weeks ago, but fan outcry (and a bump in ratings) has them reconsidering the decision, with sources saying it’s now got a 50/50 shot at coming back.

-The Good Place creator Mike Schur hasn’t given any interviews about the most recent season — until now.

-I have been following this guy’s tweets for a month now and they are a consistent source of delight! His mom recently passed away and when he looked at her Kindle he was surprised to find it filled thousands of verryyyyy risque romance novels — which he is now reading and reviewing on Twitter.

-A bunch of media sites jumped the gun this morning and broke the embargo for the new Star Trek: Picard first teaser trailer, so CBS pulled it. But it’s back online now. Showing Picard (now an admiral after quitting Starfleet dues to events 15 years prior) at his winery.

-The first official trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate has arrived. Linda Hamilton is still fierce.

Riri’s day

-It’s still happening. Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly threw Rihanna a birthday party.  Wake me up when this whole thing goes away.

-Whenever a celebrity gets another celebrity’s name tattooed on their body, an angel loses its wings.

-It’s kind of a cliche at this point to complain about the Oscars telecast being too long/boring, but I really liked this Grantland plea for the show to be less afraid of chaos.

Jimmy Kimmel‘s annual post-Oscars show pulled in some heavy-hitters, including Eddie Redmayne, Mila Kunis and Jennifer Aniston. The highlight, though, was when he caught people bullshitting about what Oscar films they’ve seen.

-In case you missed the Oscars pre-show, Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith had the most cringe-worthy, uncomfortable interview every recorded.

-Yes, Patricia Arquette undercut her amazing Oscar acceptance speech with some clumsily worded sentiments backstage, but the backlash she’s getting is bullsh*t. She’s since taken to Twitter to clarify her remarks.

-I prefer Lupita Nyong’o‘s and Emma Stone‘s Vanity Fair party dresses to their Oscar gowns.

-Speaking of Oscar parties, Aaron Paul did his photo-bombing thing again.

-So Chris Pine and Zoë Kravitz are really a thing, huh? I dig it.

-In other new couple news, Josh Hutcherson and Dianna Agron reportedly looked cozy at a pre-Oscars party.

Aziz Ansari wrote a wonderful tribute to comedian Harris Wittels.

-Meanwhile, if you only have time to read one Parks and Recreation retrospective before tomorrow night’s series finale, I recommend Alan Sepinwall’s piece on how the goodness of Leslie Knope led to the greatness of the show.

-Well lookie, lookie: The Duff exceeded box office expectations this weekend. I’m waiting a week until my BFF is back in town to go see it and it’s SO HARD. I deserve a cake or something…

-I’m still not sold on Supergirl’s lead, but all of the other casting announcements have been on point. The latest: Calista Flockhart has signed on as the evil boss of Supergirl’s alter-ego.

-Arcade Fire’s Will Butler wants to write a song a day based on news headlines. Oh goodie.

-In other music news, Death Cab For Cutie debuted a new song. Somewhere out there, Seth Cohen is crying tears of joy.

-The trailer for the final season of Mad Men is kind of perfection.

Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson Are Pitch Perfect for EW

Anna Kendrick Pitch Perfect 2

-I usually blindly love any magazine cover that features Anna Kendrick, but the shot that EW chose for their Pitch Perfect 2 cover is all kinds of awks, no? It looks like her leg is trying to swallow Rebel Wilson. The shot of them in the club is so much better.

-I’m super underwhelmed by People’s Sexiest Man Alive choice this year (but maybe that’s just because of the ’90s hair he’s sporting on the cover).  But last year was Adam Levine, so I guess there’s a *bit* of course correction happening.

-Meanwhile, Jason Bateman says he’s ticked at not being chosen.

-Also, we’ve suspected it but now sources seem to confirm that Ryan Gosling hasn’t been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive yet because he rejected them multiple times. Is that why Chris Pratt didn’t make it this year?

Janice Dickinson says Bill Cosby raped her. There was an immediate “but she’s a crazy model jumping on a bandwagon” backlash on Twitter, until someone pointed out that she told Howard Stern a similar story back in 2006. If she’s lying, she’s playing a hell of a long game.

-Here’s the threatening letter Bill Cosby’s new attorney sent to Buzzfeed’s Kate Aurthur, who’s been doing some really good work on this story.

THR’s actress roundtable this year features Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon, Patricia Arquette, Laura Dern, Felicity Jones and Hilary Swank. I love Reese’s dress in the photo. I don’t think I’d wear it, but it’s so very *her*.

Jennifer Lawrence appeared on Elizabeth Banks’ YouTube show, “Ask a Badass,” and is very excited to be the first “lady badass.”

Anna Wintour knows the Vogue Kim Kardashian/Kanye West cover wasn’t tasteful…and that was her point.

-Meanwhile, here’s a very sanitized view of what it’s like to be Anna’s assistant.

-This is making yesterday’s news of an American Luther adaptation go down easier: BBC America says Idris Elba will film two new hourlong episodes of original Luther next March to air later in 2015.

-For reasons I won’t even try to comprehend, Aubrey Plaza’s basketball team made a fake Burger King commercial.

-It’s cute how Ansel Elgort is trying to make it seem like it ain’t no thing that he’s suddenly swimming in groupies.

-Why is Shailene Woodley gracing one of GQ’s Men Of The Year covers?

-This new Dave Chappelle interview is great (minus the pimp intro). He talks about meeting Rob Ford, and makes some pretty smart comments about Tyler Perry.

-I feel like The 100 is going to be added to my holiday binge-watch list. Every TV critic I follow on Twitter (and I follow a lot of them) won’t stop raving about this season. Can anyone out there second this?

FKA Twigs says dating Robert Pattinson is “very worth it” despite the Twihard-y haters.

-I’m glad the Foo Fighters’ HBO show is getting lots of critic love. It really is pretty great.

-I like this article about what Tom Hardy’s new TV show says about future of TV and movies.

-The first Cinderella trailer looks ok (mostly because of Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter), but man, Robb Stark’s beard clearly held all of his sexy power.
