Taylor Swift Blasts Netflix

Taylor Swift called out Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia for what she called a “lazy, deeply sexist” and “horse shit” joke they made about her during season finale of the show. Not to defend the show (which is a mess), but the way that joke was positioned, we’re *supposed* to think it was cruel/below the belt, not that the show was endorsing the sentiment. But I’m sure Netflix appreciates the sudden free publicity…

-Last night everyone was supposed to be talking about the Golden Globes, but then CBS dropped two promos of Harry and Meghan‘s chat with Oprah, which stole the spotlight. Leading with O’s “Were you silent or were you SILENCED?” surely helped get it trending. And Meghan didn’t say a word in either trailer, making it harder for the British press to pre-emptively attack her.

-Meanwhile, The Golden Globes were a slog. Considering how smoothly both the Emmys and the Daytime Emmys were, I was surprised how clunky this was.

Taylor Simone Ledward’s acceptance of late husband Chadwick Boseman‘s was the show’s emotional highlight.

Fashion-wise, I loved Anna Taylor-Joy, Regina King and Cynthia Erivo.

Jason Sudeikis wore a hoodie to support his sister’s dance studio, and it’s now sold out.

Gal Gadot announced she’s pregnant by tweeting a photo her her husband holding her belly and the caption “Here we go again.”

Lady Gaga‘s dog walker Ryan Fischer posted on Instagram about being shot during last Wednesday’s violent kidnapping of the singer’s dogs, telling Gaga “Your babies are back and the family is whole… we did it!”

-At least 10 women and one man are accusing T.I. and Tiny of multiple sex, weapons and drugging crimes spanning 15 years.

-On a podcast, Paris Hilton recalled “cruel” treatment from David Letterman and Sarah Silverman.

Angelina Jolie‘s painting by Winston Churchill sold for $11.5M at auction.

-Comic-Con will remain a virtual event this year (hopefully they’ve figured it out by now, cause last year was a mess). Organizers are eyeing a smaller, in-person event in November.

-A lot criticism surrounding Wandavision is about how the Avengers movies didn’t have enough Wanda in them for the audience to be invested in her for her own show, but the last episode went back in time to make emotional sense of the character.

Ellen Pompeo insists they still don’t know if this season of Grey’s Anatomy will be its last. “We honestly have not decided. We’re really trying to figure it out right now.”

-Here’s the first trailer for Operation Varsity Blues, Netflix’s take on the college admissions scandal.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Turn to Oprah

-It was a long weekend so I missed Meghan Markle‘s pregnancy announcement. The British press didn’t though — and were even more horrible to her than usual.

-Meanwhile, the royal couple are set to do a sit-down interview with Oprah and “nothing is off-limits.”

Simone Ashley won the coveted role of Kate in season two of Bridgerton. I know nothing about this actress, but that’s the best character in the entire book series so good on her.

-Speaking of the Bridgerton cast, Rege-Jean Page is going to star in Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons movie with Chris Pine.

Olivia Wilde made a social media post thanking Harry Styles for taking on a supporting role in a women-led movie, and people are not having it.

Wilde also spent Valentine’s Day moving stuff out of Jason Sudeikis’ house and into Styles’.

-Awful news for Nicki Minaj: her father has passed away following a hit-and-run.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is making noises again about running for president. He seems like a swell guy but can we just… not?

-This is an interesting piece on how everyone in Hollywood wants immunity, and lots of A-listers are looking into what it would take to get it — but they are also terrified of potential public shaming if it ever came out that they jumped the vaccine line (as they should be).

-Meanwhile, here’s a look at how crisis PR isn’t really working for stars these days.

-Are Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox the 2021 version of Angelina and Billy Bob? He wears a necklace with a drop of her blood in it.

-Speaking of pulling an Angie, Kristen Wiig says her twin babies’ names are Luna and Shiloh.

-Speaking of Wiig, her new movie is incredibly weird and you definitely have to be in the right mindset for it (or high), but I will watch the bit where Jamie Dornan recreates a cheezy music video over and over and over. This is a very charming interview with him about it, in which he says he can sing “just as much as any douchey actor guy.”

David Boreanaz has broken his silence and offered public support to Charisma Carpenter.

Julie Bowen says her Modern Family TV son Nolan Gould gave her an ‘insane’ Happy Gilmore poster. “[Because of it] my kids think Happy Gilmore is a horror movie.”

-Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay says it was the ‘right decision‘ for Chris Harrison to step aside temporarily. Others are wondering if it should be forever?

Claudia Conway auditioned on this weekend’s season premiere of American Idol and the whole thing felt off and manipulative.

-This is an excellent profile on Chloé Zhao, the creator of quiet indie dramas who has suddenly become the most-sought-after director in Hollywood, and an Oscar frontrunner.

-Oof, this is a damning thread on how Justin Timberlake talked about Britney Spears over the years.

-Also in her first interview in over a decade, Spears’ cousin and former assistant Alli Sims claims that Britney’s father Jamie was “100 percent” threatening Alli with her life when he forced her to cut off contact with Britney.

-Here’s the first trailer for the Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max.

-Here’s the latest trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Sigh.

Mariah Carey Opens Up to Oprah

-In advance of her memoir’s release, Mariah Carey sat down with Oprah for an interview on Apple+, and talks about feeling like a captive in her marriage to Tommy Mottola, and that Derek Jeter was a “catalyst” in their divorce.

In the book, she writes that Mottola held a butter knife to her face in front of a bunch of their guests at their home, and that he didn’t want her songs to have an R&B influence because he “tried to wash the ‘urban’ (translation: Black) off of me. And it was no different when it came to the music”.

-Time released their 100 most influential people list, and Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade made the cover.

-Also for Time, another influential couple — Prince Harry and Meghan Markleappeared in a video to tell Americans to vote in “the most important election of our lifetime”.

Emma Stone and her partner stepped out wearing matching rings — and she was also sporting what looks like a baby bump.

Kim Cattrall isn’t interested in taking back what she’s said about Sarah Jessica Parker: “Everything is on Google. So, I encourage you to Google it about anything that I’ve said. I feel that that was then, and when I look at what’s going on around me, I just don’t have any regrets.”

Kelly Clarkson and Usher spoke candidly about overcoming the pain of divorce on her show — and now people are shipping them together.

-Meanwhile, Kelly covered Harry Styles and it was perfect.

-This collection of clips from the first week of Drew Barrymore’s show is wild.

-This is a fun article on what it’s like to be in Drew’s virtual audience during taping.

JK Rowling‘s new thriller is in the No 1 spot despite her transphobia comments, reminding us all that what is playing out on Twitter tends to be very different from what’s happening IRL.

Demi Moore is making the jump to the small screen. She’ll star in Amazon’s adaptation of the Dirty Diana podcast.

-In news that should surprise no one, Black Widow and West Side Story’s theatrical releases have been delayed until 2021.

-Here’s the first trailer for Aaron Sorkin‘s The Trial of the Chicago 7, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jeremy Strong. It’s about a protest at the 1968 Democratic Convention that turned violent.
