–Zendaya covers the October issue of British Vogue, styled by Law Roach. Between Dune and Spider-Man promotion, she’s everywhere right now and I don’t hate it.

–In GQ, Regé-Jean Page talks about what’s next for his career, breaks down his favourite pieces from his own wardrobe, and says he’s moved on from the show that made him famous. “The universe has expanded. So I’m no longer in the Bridgerton WhatsApp group.”

-Goddamit. Michael K. Williams, who starred in everything from The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Community and Lovecraft Country was found dead on Monday afternoon inside of his Brooklyn residence.

–Angelina Jolie spoke to The Guardian mostly about her activism, but the article is getting more attention for the gross way the writer opens it, and her brief mention of being “hurt” when then-husband Brad Pitt worked with Harvey Weinstein despite knowing the producer had tried to assault her.

-The publicists for Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s new HBO show must have popped champagne when they realized that this slo-mo gif of him kissing her arm on the red carpet went viral. (They’re actors and they’re both very good at acting and promotion, but damn that response underlines just how starved we are for a pair that has good onscreen chemistry.)

-Chastain posted a cheeky response to the hubhub. He later held her purse on a different red carpet because again, they’re very good at this.

-Speaking of things that caused the internet to melt down this long weekend, Olivia Munn was papped and appears to be pregnant, which has led to lots of speculation about the timeline of her and John Mulaney‘s relationship. A tiktok has resurfaced that a comedian posted back in May about the pair expecting, right after that news of his split from his wife came out.

-It feels like a good time to revisit this piece about fans’ connection to Mulaney, and the parasocial cloud that now seems to surround him.

-Emily in Paris star Lily Collins got married in Colorado over the weekend, and People has the photos.

-Expect a lot less filler episodes in the new season of Survivor. The competition will only be 26 days long instead of the usual 39 days due to a two-week Covid quarantine for the cast and crew, but host Jeff Probst says the change could be permanent.

–Michaela Coel says she turned down Netflix’s $1 million deal due to due to a “lack of transparency,” “exploitation” and their refusal to let her own the copyright for I May Destroy You.

-Meanwhile, Coel looks incredible on the cover of Elle UK.

–Patrick Wilson looks like Momoa-lite on the set of Aquaman 2. I kept hearing some not-great things about Momoa during his summer filming here, so maybe Wilson can take over?

-Ok fine, Momoa’s new Aquaman suit has won me back.

-Marvel’s Shang Chi (which I really dug) crushed box office expectations, which might convince Disney to keep The Eternals in theatres only.

–A new fan site for The Matrix: Resurrections generates a unique teaser video featuring footage and narration from the sequel. Right now, if you click on the blue pill you get Neil Patrick Harris’ character saying, “you’ve lost your capacity to discern reality from fiction,” but if you choose the red pill and enter the matrix, you hear Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s voice telling you the current time and saying that “couldn’t be further from the truth.” Both options give you different glimpses of footage.

-The Carrie Diaries’ Anna Sophia Robb announced on Instagram that she’s engaged, and this pic is so much better than the ultra-staged ones we usually get.

–Friends of Jean-Michel Basquiat are not happy with Beyoncé and Jay-Z for their use of a painting by the late American artist their Tiffany & Co ad.

–Selena Gomez is on a group chat with her Only Murders costars Steve Martin and Martin Short — but it’s over email.

-Want to attend the Met Gala? For the first time ever, it will be live-streamed by Vogue on Sept 13. The stream will be hosted by hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.

-The reviews are glowing for Apple TV+’s filmed performance of the musical Come From Away.

–Janet Jackson promises to tell her own story in the teaser for Janet, a two-night documentary coming to Lifetime.

–Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 911 operator who receives distressing call in trailer for The Guilty. I’m seeing this next week at TIFF and I don’t know if my blood pressure can handle it.

-It’s a big week for Olivia Rodrigo. She finally met Taylor Swift IRL and now she’s on the cover of Billboard Magazine.

-Well, this is unexpected. John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are dating, says People.

-In other surprising couples news, Kat Dennings and Andrew W.K. confirmed that they are engaged.

-Are Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker the horniest famous couple? Their social media interactions point to “yes”.

–Gal Gadot had a chance to redeem herself. She did not.

–Josh Duhamel says he sent Armie Hammer an email after replacing him in Shotgun Wedding. “I know Armie a little bit, and when I knew I was gonna get the part, I emailed him and said, ‘Listen, I know you are going through it right now, I don’t like to get roles like this and I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and good luck, get through it.'” I wonder if he sent similarly supportive notes to Hammer’s alleged victims?

–Tom Cruise is not apologizing for his rant on the Mission: Impossible 7 set: “I said what I said. There was a lot at stake at that point.”

-I’m surprised NBC agreed to end This Is Us since it seems to be one of the few legitimate network hits left, but good for them for going out on their own terms.

-Yesterday Ellen DeGeneres alluded to cancel culture when she announced her show’s ending, and today she said that the toxic workplace complaints were “orchestrated”. She told the Today Show: “I really didn’t understand it. I still don’t understand it. It was too orchestrated. It was too coordinated. People get picked on, but for four months straight for me. And then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment, when all I’ve ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is and what a happy place this is.” Right, because celebrities guests who pop in for two hours would have similar experiences as fulltime crew members.

-Meanwhile, her former employees are happy that she seems to be facing consequences.

-There’s talk that Tiffany Haddish might fill Ellen’s shoes.

–John Barrowman has been removed from the Doctor Who Immersive Experience in the wake of allegations of inappropriate onset behavior.

-Another showrunner (this time the guy behind All Rise) reportedly made everyone’s life miserable before getting fired.

-I never thought I’d say this, but the long-delayed Friends reunion special might actually be worth the wait? It will feature guest stars David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, Tom Selleck, Reese Witherspoon, Malala Yousafzai and more. BTS alone will make it a ratings monster.

–Jennifer Garner and Édgar Ramírez visited a migrant shelter at the U.S.-Mexico border.

-The Knives Out 2 cast keeps expanding. Yesterday we heard about Janelle Monáe, and today’s addition is Kathryn Hahn (who’s clearly going to be the murderer, ’cause it was Agatha all along).

–Grimes says she was hospitalized for a panic attack after appearing on SNL.

-I’m assuming Channing Tatum has a social media manager who posted this comment on Jonah Hill‘s post, but it’s hilarious and he should take all the credit.

-A massive flagship Harry Potter store in New York City is being planned. Read the room, guys!

Paris Hilton Is Getting Married

–Paris Hilton is engaged — and she has the very staged photos to prove it.

–Gayle King asked FKA Twigs why didn’t she leave her relationship with Shia LaBeouf, and she responded: “I’m not going to answer that question anymore because the question should really be to the abuser, ‘Why are you holding someone hostage with abuse?’ People say ‘Oh, it can’t have been that bad because else she would have left.’ And it’s like, ‘No, it’s because it was that bad, I couldn’t leave.’ ”

-Do we really need not one, but two documentaries on Tekashi 6ix9ine? (Narrator: “We do not.”)

–Olivia Munn says a friend’s mom was attacked in an anti-Asian hate crime in New York City.

-This is a good piece from the NYT on how Buffy fans are trying to reconcile accusations of misogyny against Joss Whedon with their love of a show that celebrated female empowerment. (Unless, like many of us, you realized what he was years ago.)

–Courteney Cox covered the Friends theme song on the piano in a new Instagram video.

-Bad news for FX, great news for Amazon: Donald Glover has signed a huge, eight-figure deal with Amazon Studios. It includes a curated content channel on Prime.  Malia Obama, who has been interning and assisting on sets since 2014, is rumoured to be joining the writers’ room of one of his projects.

–Viola Davis and Stacey Abrams had a wide-ranging chat about awards season, race and politics, with Davis saying: “I feel like we’re in a period where for me, I’ve had to harness my anger. I’ve almost had to compartmentalize it. I absolutely believe that this last year has driven home the point that we are in a war of ideology and ethos.”

-Is the little boy from The Princess Bride actually New Girl’s Nick Miller all grown up? I can see it.

-I adore this article on Barb And Star, Ted Lasso, and the refreshing trend of actual feel-good comedies that don’t make their characters the target of mean-spirited jokes but instead celebrate them for who they are. I have a million shows on my to-watch list, but I just restarted Ted Lasso instead because it’s exactly what I need right now.

-Meanwhile, Jason Sudeikis might be dating his Ted Lasso costar Keely Hazell, who plays New Rebecca/Bex.

-New episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ will arrive on AMC+ Thursdays starting March 4 ahead of their linear debut on Sundays. I didn’t even know there was an AMC+.

-This is an interesting piece by a writer who called out Justin Timberlake five years ago on Twitter for his disrespect of Janet Jackson — and how it didn’t go well.

-Despite this lowkey award season, a certain director is standing out. Chloé Zhao‘s drama Nomadland is taking home award after award, including 34 awards season trophies for directing, 13 for screenplay, and 9 for editing – making history as the most awarded filmmaker in a single awards season.

–Annie Murphy talks to Vanity Fair about her leap from Schitt’s Creek to her upcoming AMC series Kevin Can F**k Himself, which shatters the family sitcom and avenges all the downtrodden TV wives.
