Sandra Oh is a Person of the Year

Sandra Oh in a pink top on the cover of People

Sandra Oh has been named one of People’s People of the Year, and talked about inspiring others (“It means so much to me to be on this cover. When I was growing up, I never saw my face on the cover. To be asked to be on the cover is a great privilege, because it normalizes things for my nephews and nieces”) and how her impromptu speech at a Stop Asian Hate rally went viral (“There was a lot of pain and outrage, and when that happens, you need to gather together. That’s the only way to get through. If you’re standing side by side with someone who’s not your gender or not your race, you can go, ‘Okay, we have commonality.’ We need to move through fear”).

Michael B. Jordan covers THR and talks about growing his empire (“To be young, Black and successful — and disruptive — in this industry, there’s a certain navigation to get to the place I need to get to. And you try to hold that moment and stay in it for as long as you can”) and posting about his relationship with Lori Harvey on social media (“There’s a premeditated planning of staying out of the way [of the public eye] that sometimes kills spontaneity and intimacy. I wanted to take that away and give this the best chance it had, in this weird world that we live in, to be somewhat normal”).

Ben Affleck talked to Wall Street Journal’s magazine about second chances — both in his career and in his love life. However, he’s trying to create boundaries when it comes to sharing details. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, he said, “You can write conjecture about it, but one of the harder lessons that I have learned is that it’s not wise to share everything with the world. There are some things which are private and intimate and have meaning in terms of their intimacy by dint of the fact that they’re not shared with the rest of the world. I’m more comfortable just learning to find a boundary between things that I want to share and things that I don’t.”

Alec Baldwin gave an “intense” post-Rust interview to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos. It’ll air tomorrow, but they released a clip of him tearing up.

-Everyone’s sharing their Spotify Wrapped lists today. In the meantime, Spotify announced that Bad Bunny edged out Taylor Swift for the coveted title of their most-streamed artist of 2021.  This marks the second year in a row for him to get the honour — and he didn’t even release a new album this year.

-Succession’s J. Smith-Cameron says she has “no issue” being a sex symbol. We don’t have an issue with it, either!

-Meanwhile, Matthew Macfadyen discussed which of Tom’s relationships is more secure: Shiv or Greg.

Sandra Bullock was on Red Table Talk and discussed her terrifying home invasion in 2014 (“The violation of that. I wasn’t the same after that, I was unraveling…I haven’t been alone since the day it happened”), and how she told her photographer boyfriend Bryan Randall that she was adopting another child (“We hadn’t been together that long and I go “You remember that NDA you signed when you photographed my son [at the birthday party where we met?] You know that still holds?’ And he said “Yeah, ok, why?’ And is said, “Cause I’m bringing a child home when I come back from Toronto”).

-Awful: legendary music exec Clarence Avant‘s wife was shot and killed in a home invasion robbery.

-Four more families have turned down Travis Scott’s offer to pay for the funerals of family members who died at Astroworld.

-Congrats to Kathy Griffin, who told Jimmy Kimmel that she’s officially cancer-free.

-Shawn Mendes apparently wants joint custody of a dog named Tarzan following his split with Camila Cabello.

-Yellowjackets is a new show that seems to be sneaking onto people’s radar. I wonder if it’ll end up on some Best of 2021 lists?

-Speaking of Best of lists, I’m surprise how many movie ones have Drive My Car on them. I gave up on that film an hour and a half in.

-Only Murders in the Building has started shooting season 2!

-Should I start watching the Great British Bake-off? Everyone who does just seems really happy with that decision.

Michael Sheen gets a glimpse of his bleak future in the trailer for Last Train to Christmas.

-Neo experiences deja vú in the new trailer for Matrix: Resurrections.

Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s Winter Wonderland

Lady Gaga tweeted a photo of her and Adam Driver on the set of House of Gucci and it’s so perfect, it quickly became a meme. She’s playing Patrizia Reggiani and he stars as Maurizio Gucci.

-The Queen released a short statement regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s bombshell Oprah interview — and she’s pleading ignorance? Oof.

Piers Morgan walked off the set of his morning show when co-presenter Alex Beresford confronted him on his treatment of Markle, saying, “I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times, and I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or you had one, and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.”

-Ha ha ha. He’s now quit the show. What a snowflake.

-Meanwhile, a 2008 interview clip of John Oliver on Stephen Colbert’s show talking about Markle has resurfaced. “I would not blame her if she pulled out of this [engagement] at the last minute. I don’t think you need to have just seen the pilot episode of The Crown to get a basic sense that she might be marrying into a family that could cause her some emotional complication. They’re an emotionally stunted group of fundamentally flawed people doing a very silly pseudo-job. That’s what she’s marrying into.”

-The Crown won’t tackle Prince Harry and Meghan Markle because their drama is ongoing and not yet history. Creator Peter Morgan has previously said, “I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago…Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end.”

-Meanwhile, I really liked this piece on how Oprah uses silence better than anyone, and this one on her follow up questions and insistence on circling back when she wasn’t getting the answers she wanted.

George Clooney isn’t thrilled that Amal has begun watching ER. He told Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett on their podcast: “My wife is watching them now and it’s getting me in a lot of trouble because I’d forgotten all of the terrible things (my character) was doing, picking up women.”

Elizabeth Banks is set to direct bear-centric thriller called Cocaine Bear, based on true events from 1985 when a 175-pound bear accidentally consumed over 70 ponds of cocaine that was dropped from a plane by a smuggler. I’m confused by how much I want to see this.

-Here’s the first look at Heels, the new wrestling family drama series starring Stephen Amell and Alex Ludwig. I’m also confused by how much I want to see this.

-The wording in the announcement about Kim Convenience’s ending seemed weird, no? The stars also seemed surprised by the news.

-There was a big glitch last night on HBO Max where people who were trying to watch Tom and Jerry ended up seeing Zach Synder’s Justice League — which doesn’t premiere for another 10 days. This thing is cursed.

-I agree with this piece: releasing episodes weekly makes television more fun to watch.

-WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer talked to the NYT about how she found inspiration in Lost, Russian Doll, Homecoming and Forever.

-Love this: Schitt’s Creek alum Annie Murphy has joined the cast of Russian Doll for Season 2.

Michael Sheen says he’s spent the last few weeks battling covid. “It’s been very difficult and quite scary.”

-The 2021 BAFTA Awards nominations list is the most diverse in the British Academy’s history. It comes just a year after it was embroiled in the #BaftaSoWhite controversy, sparking a 7-month review and overhaul of the voting rules and regulations.

Zayn Malik is the latest musician to slam the Grammys, tweeting, “Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination considerations. Next year I’ll send you a basket of confectionary.”

Another woman has joined the victims accusing rapper T.I. and his wife Tiny Harris of sexual assault, abuse, and drugging.

-Here’s the trailer for Kung-Fu, the CW’s gender-reversed reimagining  of the 1972 David Carradine series, premiering April 7.

Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen Split

-Sad news: Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen are going their separate ways after two years together. (True story: I was once on a date at an artsy film and they sat next to me and I totally eavesdropped on their post-film convo because they were saying really deep, insightful things about the movie, while I had no clue what the hell I just saw. So thank you, guys, for making me sound like I totally understood the symbolic meaning of characters who wore animal masks and screamed at the moon…)

-Speaking of stars who just went through a split, Michelle Williams looks anything but sad in this kicky lil’ Victoria Beckham number. Her follow-up outfit was also good.

-Speaking of Oz the Great and Powerful stars, Marina Abramovic is making a movie about the life of James Franco. Sigh.

-Meanwhile, did you know Franco scored a cool $7 million to star in Oz? Sigh squared.

Simmer downChloë Moretz!

-Is it OK to be drooly about Nicolas Hoult‘s photo spread in GQ? ‘Cause it’s all kinds of good, but I can’t quite get over that he’s the kid from About a Boy.

Jennifer Aniston is getting married and she’s already picked out a dress and date, which totally deserves a People cover story because no woman in the history of the world has done that ever.

Prince William went all knight-in-shining-armour on a group of hikers.

-I am by no means a fan of celebrity photographer/professional creep Terry Richardson, but his Oscar photos don’t suck.

Ginnifer Goodwin actually wore something that I kind of love to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. The makeup is terrible, but still.

-Meanwhile, I so wish Amy Adams wore her Oscar de la Renta afterparty dress the entire night and just skipped the one she wore to the ceremony all together. Gorg!

Zoe Saldana, however, should never have changed out of her Alexis Mabille gown for this monstrosity. Oof!

Tina Fey just crushed our dreams by declaring that she’ll never host the Oscars. Hug me.

Madonna’s camp is trying to squash rumours that she dissed Demi Moore by not inviting her to her annual Oscar bash.

-Did Liam Hemsworth make out with January Jones at a pre-Oscar party? Probably not, but everyone’s throwing shade at him anyway.

Jennifer Lawrence has apologized for forgetting to thank David O Russell and Harvey Weinstein in her Oscar speech.

-Also, check out this behind-the-scenes video of Jennifer Lawrence’s Miss Dior campaign.

Billie Joe Armstrong gave a candid interview about his decision to enter rehab.

Mila Kunis looks like an anime character on the new cover of Marie Clarie.

-Is Stacy Keibler talking to her ex-boyfriend behind George Clooney‘s back? Bitch, please!

Tom Cruise was spotted by the paps spending time with Suri in London.

Kirsten Dunst was overheard complaining about having to wear designer clothes during Paris fashion week and kslwooiewjfjoww. (Sorry, I just started mashing my keyboard with my fists…)

-Someone threw a shoe at Harry Styles’ groin during a One Direction concert. Stop that, Taylor!

No Doubt have scraped their tour plans to record new music (possibly because their last album sucked.)

Josh Brolin and Diane Lane‘s split was ‘mutual,‘ says his papa James Brolin.

Kristen Bell flashed her bulging baby bump to the paps.

-In other baby news, Perez Hilton is a new dad.

-Jezebel knocks it out of the park with this article on sexism fatigue (subtitled “Seth MacFarlane is a complete ass and you don’t even notice.”)

Lena Dunham is standing up for Anne Hathaway while dissing Seth MacFarlane.

-Meanwhile, this fake Lena Dunham audition tape is kind of great (though it’s clearly spoofing Hannah, not Lena. I think more people would like Girls if they understood the distinction.)
