Batwoman’s Ruby Rose Leaves Show

 

-Batwoman’s Ruby Rose just quit the show! The CW superhero series will continue with a recast lead. I can’t remember another instance of a lead actor peacing out so early in a show’s run. There is definitely a story there…

-In her new Vanity Fair cover story, Janelle Monáe talks about taking over the lead of Amazon’s Homecoming, starring in the upcoming thriller Antebellum, her frustrations with how the government is handling the pandemic, and surviving isolation with her housemates “The Quaranteenagers.”

-Congrats to Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix, who are reportedly expecting their first child.

-On his podcast, Brian Austin Green confirmed his separation from Megan Fox, saying he noticed she began acting distant after she came back from shooting a film last Thanksgiving. “She said, ‘You know what, I realized while I was out of the country working alone that I feel more like myself and I liked myself better during that experience. And I think that’s something that might be worth trying for me.’ I was upset about it, but I can’t be upset at her, and I wasn’t upset at her because she didn’t ask to feel that way.” He also addressed the rumors that the actress is now dating Machine Gun Kelly, saying: “She met this guy Colson on set on this film she’s working on. Goes by Machine Gun Kelly — I’ve never met him but you know, Megan and I have talked about him and they’re friends at this point.” Meanwhile, Us Weekly is reporting that they’re more than friends.

-It looks like the infamous Snyder Cut is upon us. I have never really enjoyed a Zach Snyder movie so I sure the hell have no desire to watch a 3.5 hour one, but fanboys are gonna fanboy.

–Harry Styles enjoys a pre-pandemic day at the beach with models in the “Watermelon Sugar” video, which he says is “dedicated to touching.” I do appreciate that there is at least a couple of different body types (and boys!) in the mix.

–Tekashi 6ix9ine is accusing Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande of buying the No. 1 spot on top of the charts. Bieber, Grande and Billboard are refuting those claims.

–Matt Lauer wrote an op-ed in support of the NYT’s shaky hit piece on Ronan Farrow.  Not surprisingly, I’ve never heard of the outlet that agreed to run Lauer’s piece.

-A backlash is brewing over Bachelorette star Hannah Brown‘s use of the n-word when singing along to a song in an Instagram video.

-Congrats to Hawaii Five-O and Being Human star Meaghan Rath, who had a lovely looking quarantine wedding.

–Mindy Kaling has been recruited by Reese Witherspoon to help write Legally Blonde 3.

–Andrew Scott (aka Hot Priest) read a poem on Instagram called “Everything Is Going to Be Alright” and I found it very soothing.

-The cast of Umbrella Academy recreated their Tiffany dance to celebrate the second season coming to Netflix.

–Elon Musk tweeted some crap about taking the red pill and Grimes‘ mother was quick to clapback, as was Matrix co-writer/director Lilly Wachowski.

-Country music star Paul Brandt will lead Alberta’s new human trafficking task force. I…um…yeah.

-This is a very lovely profile on Ben Schwartz, who most of us know from Parks and Rec and who can soon be seen in Netflix’s Space Force.

–Stana Katic still isn’t sure why the hell ABC fired her from Castle.

-My god, the news of Lynn Shelton’s death is gutting. Her partner, comedian and actor Marc Maron, put out a statement.

–Joe Rogan (a person I don’t particularly like who hosts a podcast I very much don’t like) is moving his podcast to Spotify exclusively. This is a huge get for Spotify and a peek at where the podcast world may be heading.

-The cast of Community did a table read for charity (Pedro Pascal subbed in for Walter Goggins!), and they all said they are down to do a movie.

Rihanna Nabs Her 6th Vogue Cover

-In her new Vogue cover story, Rihanna confirms she turned down Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick (“I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within [the NFL] that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way”), reveals that she’s already planning her wedding dress (“It would probably be a collaboration between myself and [John] Galliano”), and rails against Trump’s stance on gun control (“It is devastating. People are being murdered by war weapons that they legally purchase. This is just not normal. That should never, ever be normal. And the fact that it’s classified as something different because of the color of their skin? It’s a slap in the face. It’s completely racist. Put an Arab man with that same weapon in that same Walmart and there is no way that Trump would sit there and address it publicly as a mental health problem. The most mentally ill human being in America right now seems to be the president”).

-In her Elle cover story, Mindy Kaling says the TV Academy tried to remove her producing credit on The Office. In response to their denial, she tweeted: “Respectfully, the Academy’s statement doesn’t make any sense. I *was* singled out. There were other Office writer-performer-producers who were NOT cut from the list. Just me. The most junior person, and woman of color. Easiest to dismiss. Just sayin’.”

–Angelina Jolie‘s dress at the Maleficent premiere is magnificent!

–Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson are already in the “visiting each other in the hospital” stage of their relationship.

-In Ronan Farrow‘s new book, an NBC producer accuses Matt Lauer of raping her during the Sochi Olympics. The details of her allegations are as horrible as you’d expect. NBC News responded to the story: “That’s why he was fired within 24 hours of us first learning of the complaint,” while Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie addressed the story on air. Guthrie said “I feel like we owe it to our viewers to pause for a moment. This is shocking and appalling, and I honestly don’t know even know what to say about it. I know it wasn’t easy for our colleague Brooke to come forward then. It is not easy now, and we support her and any women who come forward with claims,” while Kotb added “You feel like you’ve known someone for 12 years, you feel like you know them inside and out, and all of a sudden a door opens up and it’s a part of them you didn’t know. We don’t know all the facts in all of this, but they are not allegations of an affair — they are allegations of a crime.”

–Matt Lauer‘s statement of denial is slut-shaming and disgusting.

-Also, after rejecting Farrow’s Harvey Weinstein story, the head of NBC News separately thanked Weinstein in an email for his compliments on Megyn Kelly’s debut.

-In lighter news, Twitter was *riveted* today by the tale of two British footballer’s wives. Collen Rooney couldn’t figure out which of her IG followers kept leaking her private IG stories to The Sun — but she had her suspicions. So she said she blocked everyone from viewing her stories except for the person she suspected and then posted false stories for months about her basement flooding, a trip to Mexico, etc. — only to see those stories later show up in The Sun. Today she revealed that the only person viewing those stories was Rebekah Vardy. This is so juicy it doesn’t even matter that I have zero idea who these people are!

–Mark Ruffalo‘s take on the Ellen Degeneres/George W thing is perfection. It’s not that two people with different views shouldn’t be civil or “kind” to each other. It’s that Ellen has since referred to the man who fought to keep her own marriage illegal as a “friend.” The Bush era was definitely not marked by “kindness” — and to dismiss his terrible legacy as a difference of opinion between pals seems overly simplistic.

-Also, her preaching “kindness” continues to lead to lots of tweets from people who’ve worked with her who find that ironic.

-Celebs are closing ranks around Ellen, in any case.

–Chrissy Teigen, Seth Rogen, Kate McKinnon and more stars go on global eating tour with Dave Chang in a new Netflix food series. I love shows like this. Gywneth Paltrow has never been more endearing as when she was eating her way around Spain on camera.

-I gave up on Riverdale in season one, but I’m intrigued to see how the show honours Luke Perry in tonight’s premiere.

-A big shift is coming for TV, with the arrival of new streaming platforms Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max and NBCUniversal’s Peacock joining the already established streamers. This shopping guide makes it clear just how expensive it’s gonna get.

-All of the reminiscing about Angel on its anniversary makes me wanna do a rewatch!

-The guy who played Carlos on Desperate Housewives is NOT happy with Felicity Huffman‘s 14 day sentence: “White Privilege. And I saw eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about. Accountability and responsibility don’t mean [s–t] to these people…Slap on the wrist. Sorry, but this is [s–t].”

–Joshua Jackson being proud of his gf is a mood.

–Brie Larson says Marvel actresses have “passionately” told Kevin Feige they want an all-female movie. Gimmie!!!

NBC Fires Matt Lauer Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

-Just days after receiving a complaint on Monday, NBC fired the Today Show’s Matt Lauer early this morning. A source revealed to Page Six that Lauer allegedly “sexually assaulted” a female staffer during the Olympics this past summer in Rio. Multiple journalists had been digging into his behavior for months, and Variety dropped their big story about it this afternoon. It’s full of disgusting tidbits, including reports he once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present with a note about how he wanted to use it on her, summoned another female to his office and dropped his pants, and had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up.

-Everyone is wondering what Ann Curry is thinking today. (I’ll never forget a quote she had around the time she left the Today Show because of their “lack of chemistry”: “Chemistry, in television history, generally means the man does not want to work with the woman. It’s an excuse generally used by men in positions of power to say, ‘The woman doesn’t work.'”)

-Meanwhile, here are 12 notorious Matt Lauer stories.

-It took 19 long days since the initial Variety report broke, but Andrew Kreisberg has  finally been fired from Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, CW Seed’s Vixen and lost his overall deal with the studio. If they waited until the crossover ended last night before announcing it though, that’s gross.

-And now Geoffrey Rush is being accused of inappropriate behaviour? Goddamit.

-In a new interview, Ridley Scott talks about cutting Kevin Spacey from his film a month before its release. ‘Sometimes you need to lay down the law.’

-In happier news, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cover the new issue of People.

-There are some pretty great Actors on Actors clips that came out today from Variety, including Gal Gadot interviewing Kumail Nanjiani, and Jake Gyllenhaal interviewing Margot Robbie. (I weirdly love that Jake’s opening question is “do you use an electronic toothbrush?”)

-The X Files creator is responding to criticism about the last season. Well, I guess it’s probably a good that that they recognize it mostly sucked…

-As someone who’s already seen Call Me By Your Name, the fact that they had to digitally remove Armie Hammer‘s balls from various scenes doesn’t surprise me. Those shorts were SHORT.

-Speaking of Call Me By Your Name, this profile on Timothée Chalamet is delightful.  I like that he’s a self-admitted Frank Ocean superfan.

-Speaking of superfans, a starstruck Keanu Reeves met his hero Sonny Chiba on Japanese TV and they fangirled all  over each other.

–Nicki Minaj and Jesse Williams star in a new H&M mini-holiday movie and it’s better than anything I’ve watched on the Hallmark Channel all year.

–Jessie Williams is everywhere! He’ll also star in Demi Lovato’s new music video, which drops on Friday.

–Jay-Z sat down with The New York Times for a discussion on race, rap, politics and marriage.

–Aaron Sorkin revealed that he has standing offer from NBC to reboot The West Wing, which he considers on occasion. This seemed like a really bad idea — until he mentioned that he wants Sterling K Brown to play the president. DO IT!

-Yikes. It’s probably not a good sign that Bryan Fuller is no longer going to be American Gods’ showrunner.

-Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter wrote a novel and it’s getting surprisingly good reviews.

-The Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropped this morning. Here are all the Easter eggs.
