Demi Lovato Is Engaged

-Congrats to Demi Lovato and soap star Max Ehrich, who are engaged after four months of dating. Man, emerald cut diamonds are everywhere now, huh?

-We all assumed One Direction’s 10-year anniversary would be today’s biggest music news. But then Taylor Swift unexpectedly announced she will be dropping her eighth studio album, titled folklore, tonight at midnight.

-Interestingly, Kanye West is supposed to be dropping his new album, Donda, at the same time. I’m sure that’s a complete coincidence.

-This is an interesting thread on how a surprise album has let Taylor escape the singles release structure, which frankly, has caused her issues for the past few releases. My least fave songs for her last two albums were the ones she released first.

Britney Spears‘ brother Byran laughed off rumours she’s being held captive and said of her conservatorship “Obviously there was a need for it in the beginning…It’s been a great thing for our family and we keep hoping for the best.” He added “She’s always wanted to get out of it. It’s very frustrating to have. Whether someone’s coming in peace to help or coming in with an attitude, having someone constantly tell you to do something has got to be frustrating.”

Megan Fox gushed about her relationship with Machine Gun Kelly when they appeared together on the Give Them Lala…With Randall podcast. “The second that I was in a room with him and said hello to him and looked into his eyes, I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame. We’re actually two halves of the same soul I think. I said that to him almost immediately. I felt it right away.”

Martha Stewart expertly shading Chelsea Handler is what I needed today.

-ComicCon kicked off this morning. Here’s when some of the biggest panels for TV/movies are taking place — which you can watch on YouTube.

Eminem is reportedly terrified of what Mariah Carey might reveal in her new memoir about the time they dated. I forgot about that! A source tells Us Weekly: “Marshall is stressed out that Mariah is going to say s–t that he was bad in bed or a selfish lover because he has always been very insecure about that. She knows that.”

-The Johnny Depp libel trial continues. Amber Heard has been on the stand the past few days, and has accused him of headbutting her the night before she appeared on James Corden’s show, trying to throw her sister down a set of stairs, and going on a 36-hour cocaine and whiskey binge.

Taraji P. Henson might get her own Empire spinoff at Fox.

Chris D’Elia‘s prank show for Netflix has been scrapped after those allegations of inappropriateness with fans.

-I didn’t even like The Kissing Booth and I’m still going to watch the crap out of the sequel because that’s where quarantine has me these days.

-Amazon on Thursday released the first trailer for Gillian Flynn’s forthcoming apocalyptic thriller Utopia, starring John Cusack, Rainn Wilson and Sasha Lane. This was first announced back in 2014 so I had assumed it wasn’t going forward.

Bill and Ted 3 has moved to a September theatre release, with a simultaneous video on demand release. For a movie of this size, this makes the most sense. Open in other countries, and in North America on mostly VOD to take advantage of all the marketing already done.

Dwayne Johnson on Fame and Fans

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson talking about how one bad experience made him change how he deals with fans who approach him for selfies or autographs is really worth a listen. “It took all of 30 seconds for me to realize that I had an opportunity to make somebody feel good and I made them feel bad and what an a-hole that made me…Now they all get the same treatment and that treatment is gratitude. The alternative to that is I go back to having seven bucks in my pocket and nobody giving a sh-t to get my autograph or get my picture. On top of that, here’s the truth. Taking a picture, a selfie, or signing an autograph is literally one of the easiest parts of my job. I do a lot of things that are a lot harder.”

-The bloom continues to fall off the rose when it comes to Ellen Degeneres‘ public reputation. Variety posted a story last night about her show’s crew members (some of whom have been with her for 17 years) being outraged over their treatment during coronavirus. They received no communication about their hours or pay for over a month. She further angered them by bringing in non-union crew members to help with her current at-home taping of the show — which they learned about via social media. “Be kind” indeed.

-People are making fun of January Joneslatest Instagram video but I find this kind of unhinged entertainment delightful.

-Speaking of delightful celebrity quarantine content, Kathryn Hahn and her family did Glengarry Glen Ross with dolls.

-Last night’s Disney Family Singalong on ABC was surprisingly awesome. Ariana Grande harmonized with herself while singing “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” from Hercules, Beyonce made a surprise appearance to sing “When You Wish Upon a Star,” and the cast of High School Musical cast reunited to sing “We’re All In This Together.”

-For the first time in 50 years, San Diego Comic-Con has been cancelled. It’s the right thing to do. Plus, what will movie studios and TV shows have to promote?

-Meanwhile, Taylor Swift has cancelled all her 2020 appearances and concerts.

-Outlander star Sam Heughan sounds like he’s been dealing with a lot of fan harassment and is sick of it. I don’t watch the show so I don’t know much about that fandom, but I’ve certainly seen some people on Twitter get very, very invested in theories about him and his costar dating — and get very, very angry when she married someone else last year.

Fiona Apple released a new album today and the reviews are glowing. Even Pitchfork gave it a rare 10/10. (The title comes from a line Gillian Anderson says in The Fall, which the actress tweeted today.)

-Lucifer season 6 may be in jeopardy over a potential Tom Ellis contract dispute.

-Critics are really liking Mindy Kaling’s new Netflix show.

Martha Stewart is getting flak for telling Seth Meyers that she’s sheltering with her driver, housekeeper and gardener at her estate in the Bedford, N.Y., area and referring to them as her “detainees.” She added “They’re not sick of it yet but when I see the edges fraying, I’ll give them a day off.” Oof.

-Deep fakes are so, so weird but this re-imagined Parks & Rec intro with every character replaced by Ron is very clever.

Meghan Markle appeared on a video call to raise funds for the delivery of food to poor, elderly and vulnerable Londoners during the coronavirus epidemic.

-Speaking of Zoom calls, Seth Rogen showed Jimmy Kimmel how he likes to prank people in video meetings.

-Here’s the first full trailer for HBO’s Perry Mason.

Katy Perry Talks Babies and ‘Desperate’ Pop Stars

-In her Rolling Stone cover story, Katy Perry says she might have a baby by herself if the right man doesn’t “present himself.” Speaking of presenting, I’m kind of digging the green hair.

-Meanwhile, her wacky new video just dropped.

-Here’s the video evidence you’ve been waiting for of Orlando Bloom trying to punch Justin Bieber. It’s even lamer than it originally sounded.

-Congrats to Alicia Keys, who’s expecting another kid.

-Speaking of babies, is Jennifer Garner pregnant again?

-In other life-changing news, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden already talking about marriage?

-On last night’s Seth Meyers’ show, Chris Pratt talked about that one time he showed Amy Poehler his penis.

Martha Stewart posed for Terry Richardson, which is super disappointing.

James Franco tried to get Stephen Colbert to break character on last night’s Colbert Report because he’s kind of a jerk.

-Who is the demanding new star that Robert Pattinson is dissing in the new issue of Esquire?

-The new trailer for Into the Woods looks amazing and has an insane cast (Anna Kendrick,  Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep). But isn’t it a little weird that it gives zero indication this thing is a musical?
