–Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian are pretending to be hot for each other in their new SKIMS ads. In other news, I no longer understand the target audience for shapewear.

-Shocking and tragic: Willie Garson has passed away from pancreatic cancer at 57. He was spotted filming the Sex and the City reboot just last month. The celebrity tributes are pouring in.

–Brad Pitt is accusing Angelina Jolie of using “devious means” to try to cut him out of a lucrative real estate deal involving the posh Chateau Miraval estate they co-owned in France.

–Aaron Rodgers has responded to critics who claimed his relationship with Shailene Woodley is affecting his performance: “It’s absolute horseshit.”

–Jennifer Hough, who accused Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty of rape, claims she was threatened with a $20k bounty on her head.

–Justin Chambers says after 15 years on the show, Grey’s Anatomy became “sort of a factory job for acting. You just clock in, clock out.” He was rumoured to be making around $375k per episode, so not exactly like a factory job though, is it?

–Nicole Richie turned 40 and celebrated by accidentally setting her hair on fire.

–Johnny Depp used his acceptance speech at the San Sebastian Film Festival to call out cancel culture. “It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people.”

–Ryan Reynolds responded in the best way possible to Gerard Butler‘s casual diss — by shouting out the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

-Here’s Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein doing a 6-minute medley of The Muppet Christmas Carol songs, just because it’s been that kind of week and I feel we all need it.

–Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian and Rami Malek will be among the first hosts of SNL’s new season.

-The Prince Andrew reputation rehabilitation project has begun.

–Richard Buckley, fashion editor and designer Tom Ford‘s husband of 35 years, has died.

-Black actresses who star on CW superhero shows got together on an Instagram Live to talk about their experiences. The Flash’s Candice Patton said that the network had no idea how to deal with the racist hate coming her way, but she knew if she left the show that execs would have used that as an excuse to not cast Black women in the future.

–Kathy Hilton went into a restaurant wearing a dress and left wearing a tablecloth. I’ve never been more interested in her.

-Following years of complaints about her use of “blaccent,” Awkwafina finally addressed the matter in an interview — and didn’t really say much at all. It’s weird that she’s been so dogged by this and yet seemed totally caught off guard by the question.

-An Emmys producer found Seth Rogen‘s onstage COVID comments “deeply frustrating.”

–Daniel Craig believes the next James Bond should not be a woman — because he believes actresses should get better roles and not settle for castoffs.

–Britney Spears’ lawyer told a judge that he expects her conservatorship will be terminated “completely and inevitably” this fall, but his current top priority is removing Jamie Spears from the role of conservator of her estate. He is urging the judge to replace Jamie on Sept. 29 with someone who could handle the job on a “temporary, short-term” basis for things like her prenuptial agreement.

-Netflix’s new miniseries Maid is getting good reviews, especially Margaret Qualley’s performance as a mom who finds work cleaning houses after escaping an abusive relationship.

–Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry make an Uber driver’s night hell in the trailer for Netflix vampire action movie Night Teeth.

 

Selena Gomez Covers Elle

-In her new Elle cover story, Selena Gomez opens up about mental illness, lupus, and letting go of social media. I’m very intrigued by her new Hulu show Only Murders in the Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. The reviews are good.

-Also, Hailey Baldwin (who is married to Gomez’s ex Justin Bieber) liked a post about the cover. I appreciate that she knew that would make headlines.

–Kanye West has filed to legally change his full name to Ye.

–Megan Thee Stallion has reportedly filed legal documents  alleging that her label is blocking the release of new music from her, particularly a remix of BTS‘ global hit “Butter.”

-No surprise here: Disney is hoping to resolve its issues with Scarlett Johansson in private. Disney’s lawyers filed a motion to put the dispute over Black Widow’s profits in private arbitration rather than have a public trial.

-Amid all the hand-wringing about the quality of season 2 of Ted Lasso, this is the most valid complaint I’ve seen: Apple’s weekly rollout is hurting it. (Also, here’s yet another critic alluding to the fact that the season is about to kick into a higher gear…)

-The world is morning Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away at 80.

-Scheduling conflicts may keep Mayim Bialik from hosting Jeopardy full-time, but she has expressed an interest in the position if she is able to make it work. Of course she has.

-I’m surprised that it’s taken this long for some of her questionable momfluencer advice to surface again.

-I’m very glad to see Brandon Routh leading a new TV show after how it sounds like he was treated on Legends of Tomorrow, and a Netflix series about Magic: The Gathering sounds perfect for him.

-In her second day of testimony, the woman accused R. Kelly of forcing her to have sex with his other girlfriends and another male, and testified that he made her lie to Gayle King.

–Jessica Chastain says she spent 4 to 7 hours a day in the makeup chair for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. “I think for sure I’ve done some permanent damage to my skin on this.”

-If Harry Styles launches a nail polish line I will buy every damn shade.

-Buffy alum Nicholas Brendon is in the new again. He was arrested last week and charged with felony prescription fraud.

-This is a great thread of reviews from Asian critics of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

-Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was originally supposed to be released in Oct 2020, will likely be delayed again.

–Dan Stevens plays a robot in the trailer for the German sci-fi romcom I’m Your Man. Ohhhh, this might be one of my TIFF picks.

-Here’s the very good trailer for Yellowjackets, a new Showtime drama series about a team of talented high school girls soccer players who become the survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness, starring Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Melanie Lynskey.

–Margaret Qualley is a single mother fighting for survival in the trailer for Netflix’s Maid. (Her real-life mom Andie MacDowell plays her on-screen mom in the series.)

-Netflix just announced a huge new slate of movies dropping over the next few months. (I’m especially excited for Cowboy Bepop based on the magnificent first photos.)

–Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd play a couple dealing with the loss of a baby who meet ex-shrink Kevin Kline in trailer for The Starling, on Netflix September 24.

-The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer leaked over the weekend, but it officially debuted at CinemaCon. I’m not as interested in a story about the multi-verse (as someone who always got annoyed by it when the CW superhero shows messed around with alt versions of characters) and I’d prefer if Peter Parker was still fighting a neighborhood badguy like Michael Keaton in Homecoming, but Tom Holland and Zendaya own me, so it’s all good.

regina king instyle–Regina King‘s victory lap for her directorial debut One Night In Miami continues with an InStyle cover. She also appeared on last night’s Kimmel, talking about what happened in Washington yesterday.

-It’s over for Shia LaBeouf and Margaret Qualley. Us Weekly is reporting they split on Saturday (making me wonder if their “source” is DeuxMoi, who posted a tip earlier with the same info). In any case, I’m happy she’s free of him.

-According to Page Six, who broke the divorce story, Kanye West’s presidential run was the last straw for Kim Kardashian.

-Meanwhile, Kim was spotted still wearing her wedding ring. They also reportedly spent the holidays together.

-The Daily Mail has photos of Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles hanging out in Santa Barbara with friends.

-Here’s a look at every studio film directed by female filmmakers expected to come out in the next two years.

–Taylor Swift quietly released an evermore deluxe edition on streaming platforms, with bonus tracks “right where you left me” and “it’s time to go.” Of course, everyone is assuming the latter is about Karlie Kloss.

-Speaking of Kloss, who’s the wife of Joshua Kushner and sister-in-law to Jared and Ivanka, she’s speaking up against Trumpsters. But Tavi Gevinson is not impressed her Kloss’ comments. (Gah, I adore Tavi!)

-Quelle surprise: Britney Spears‘ ex hubby Jason Alexander is an anti-masker who attended the Trump riot.

-We all love Demi Lovato, but nobody wants this.

–Sir Ian McKellen expressed support for his former X-Men costar Elliot Page, and recalls a time he criticized her on set for speaking softly. “I’m so happy for Elliot. And so disappointed in myself that I didn’t detect what their difficulty was with communicating.”

–Dr. Dre is having a rough week. He’s agreed to pay his ex Nicole Young $2 million in temporary spousal support.

–Katie Couric will guest host Jeopardy! after the final Alex Trebek episodes air.

-Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols reflects on her efforts to bring more diversity to NASA in the trailer for Woman in Motion.
