Ben Mulroney Takes a Step Back — Sort of

–Ben Mulroney stepped down as an anchor from eTalk this morning, following his wife’s racist actions. “I love my wife. However, it is not my place to speak for her and today, together, we are committed to doing the work to both learn and understand more about anti-Black racism as well as learn and understand more about our blind spots.” He added that he hopes eTalk will replace him with a more diverse voice. Interestingly, he will still do red carpet events for eTalk (i.e. – the plum assignments) and stay on as host of CTV’s Your Morning.

-Also, this is from The Sun so take it with a giant grain of salt, but they’re reporting that he was surprised by the lack of support from his coworkers. “Although some coworkers reached out, he was surprised many didn’t bother, despite the fact he’s worked there for 18 years. It was only decided last night he would step down from etalk.”

-In the final hours of Juneteenth 2020, Beyonce surprised the world with a new song called Black Parade. Lyrics include “Trust me, they gon’ need an army / Rubber bullets bouncin’ off me” and “Made a picket sign off your picket fence / Take it as a warning?”

-Variety’s Actors on Actors interviews are taking place over Zoom this year, and first up is Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow. Aniston talks about her character’s breakdown in the last episode of The Morning Show, while Kudrow says she hasn’t rewatched Friends because she’s hoping to sit down with the cast one day and watch it together.

-RIP, director Joel Schumacher. Not only did he give us movies like Lost Boys, St. Elmo’s Fire and two Batman films, he also gifted us with that Vulture interview where he said he’d slept with 20k people, claimed Tommy Lee Jones was an asshole, and said Val Kilmer was psychotic.

-Speaking of Batman, this is wild: Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks to replace Ben Affleck as the DCEU’s Batman, appearing in The Flash movie. I love the idea of Keaton taking up the cowl again, but I’m surprised that the Flashpoint film is going forward following the Erza Miller stuff.

-Accusations of sexual assault by celebs were flying fast and furious on Twitter this weekend. Two users accused Justin Bieber of alleged incidents in 2014 and 2015 and he responded to one of them with 15(!) tweets about why he couldn’t have been there.

-Meanwhile, Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are denying accusations of sexual assault that surfaced on Twitter over the weekend.

–Ansel Elgort broke his silence on last week’s sexual assault claims on Sunday with an Instagram post, saying the relationship in question was “brief, legal and entirely consensual.” He says he ghosted her, implying that’s why she’s retaliated.

-After last week’s Twitter outcry, five women talked to the Chicago Tribune to detail Chris D’Elia’s alleged sexual improprieties.

-The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, just announced a move from Jan 5 to Feb 28, 2021, Oscar’s original airdate.

-This is a great story about how two guys made their short film the top-grossing movie, even though they filmed it entirely on Zoom with a budget of zero dollars, and only screened it once at a single theater.

–Brad Pitt surprised a sanitation worker on Harry Connick Jr.’s CBS special.

-Netflix announced that Lucifer will return in August — and they did it with a super horned up video.

-K-pop fans may not have prevented people from going to Trump’s rally, but they did basically make any data the campaign was hoping to use for retargeting junk.

–Jon Stewart’s Irresistible, starring Steve Carell and Rose Bryne, is getting bad reviews. One critic tweeted it’s “stupefyingly bad & unfunny.”

-The Hamilton trailer has landed. On Twitter, Lin-Manuel Miranda explained that they dropped two of the show’s three f-words in order to get a Disney+ approved PG-13 rating.

-I really hope the buzz surrounding Normal People (which drops in Canada this week on CBC Gem) is still loud enough when productions resume so that Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones translate their critically acclaimed performances into huge new roles. They’re both so, so good in it and deserve to be big stars. Mescal’s on the new cover of Stylist, where he talks about auctioning off his character’s infamous chain to support a mental health and suicide charity called Pieta House.

–Lana Del Rey can’t stop digging a hole. This weekend, she posted yet another defense of her original post, and compared herself to yet another POC. “The difference is, when I get on the pole, people call me a whore, but when [FKA] Twigs gets on the pole, it’s art.” At what point does someone in her life just change her Insta password?

-Speaking of singers who’ve screwed up, after videos surfaced of her laughing at racist comments in a video chatroom, Doja Cat wrote an Instagram post on Sunday addressing the allegations.

–Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas have graduated to taking his kids on their pap walks.

-Somehow, last week I missed Jezebel’s chat with the owner of the Ana de Armas fan account that she blocked. It’s great!

-Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have broken up again.

–Khloe Kardashian has a new face and I don’t usually like to judge this shit but this is actually shocking. She’s a completely different person than how she looked just a few years ago.

–John Krasinski is facing backlash for selling “Some Good News.” Well…yeah.

–Jon Hamm was spotted playing tennis with rumoured girlfriend Anna Osceola.

-This clip Henry Winkler telling Jimmy Fallon about the jackets that changed his life is very sweet.

-Speaking of Fallon, Jennifer Lopez is (not surprisingly) much better at learning TikTok dances than he is.

–Sam Neill recruited Helena Boham Carter for a short in which she plays his cellphone and it’s good clean quarantine fun.

–Grimes and Elon Musk have updated their baby’s name after being told it can’t contain a numeric digit.

-There’s only one episode left of this season of Killing Eve but I can’t imagine I’ll ever want to catch up if critics keep calling it confusing and unwatchable.

-Speaking of unwatchable shows with a connection to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, I liked it at the beginning of the season but the Run finale was really, really bad. It’s actually kind of shocking how far this show went off-course.

–Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet runtime is reportedly 3 hour 15 min. Meh, at this point what else are we doing?

-I was very charmed by The Lovebirds, starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, now out on Netflix.

–Spike Lee‘s new film about Vietnam vets, Da 5 Bloods, drops on Netflix in June. Here’s the trailer:

Lili Reinhart Goes Glam for Allure

-I love everything about the styling of Riverdale star Lili Reinhart‘s Allure cover spread.

–Macaulay Culkin‘s Esquire cover story is great. He talks about wanting to start a family with girlfriend Brenda Strong (“We’re figuring it out, making the timing work'”), he once again comments on his relationship with Michael Jackson (“He never did anything to me. I never saw him do anything. And especially at this flash point in time, I’d have no reason to hold anything back. The guy has passed on. If anything…right now is a good time to speak up. And if I had something to speak up about, I would totally do it”), and he calls out James Franco for asking him about it when he saw him on a plane (“I give him a little nod as we’re putting our bags overhead. Hey, how you doing? Good, how ya doing? And it was right after the Leaving Neverland documentary came out, and he goes, ‘So, that documentary!’ And that was all he said. I was like, ‘Uh-huh.’ Silence. So then he goes, ‘So what do you think?’ And I turned to him and I go, ‘Do you wanna talk about your dead friend?’ And he sheepishly went, ‘No, I don’t.’ So I said, ‘Cool, man, it was nice to see you'”).

–Brad Pitt‘s didn’t just win an Oscar. This award season has rehabilitated his image — and now he even has a gushing People cover story to prove it.

–Sophie Turner is pregnant and expecting her first child with Joe Jonas. I don’t know why I thought she was way older than 23.

–Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy‘s friendship is goals. They recently shot a movie in Toronto and were spotted hanging out together all over Yorkville during their downtime.

–Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union introduced the world to their 12-year-old transgender child Zaya with a sweet message.  Wade‘s oldest child, who just celebrated his 18th birthday, also shared photos from earlier in their childhood with a lovely message of support.

–Lana Condor told a story on James Corden‘s show about how she thought she was stealthily following David Beckham around a Whole Foods until he called her out on it.

-Speaking of Lana, in honour of PS: I Still Love You dropping on Netflix today, Netflix has made To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before available for anyone — even if you don’t have a Netflix account.

–Jameela Jamil‘s bad month continues. Now she’s refuting claims that she has Munchausen Syndrome after a Tweet went viral with screengrabs of all the interviews she’s given in which she discusses a wide array of ailments.

-Since she wore her Oscar cape, Natalie Portman‘s history with female directors has been called in question, but it seems like she’s championed women directors and attempted to work with them more than a lot of other actors have.

-Meanwhile, let’s take a look at famous actors’ track records. Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Ryan Gosling and Matt Damon have never worked with female directors. Keanu Reeves does better with 13 female directors (out of 69 films) and David Oyelowo is doing best: he worked with 5 female directors in 2018 alone.

–Lauren Graham is playing the Gordon Bombay role in The Mighty Ducks reboot for Disney+ and I dig it.

–Rick Moranis is returning from a 24-year acting hiatus to star in a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot.

-We have our first trailer for Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch, starring Timothée Chalamet, Sairsoe Ronan, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Benicio Del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, and Jeffrey Wright.
