Adele’s New Wine Anthem

-The tracklist for Adele‘s new album includes songs titled “I Drink Wine”, “Can I Get It” and “Oh My God.” I’m here for all of it.

–Lil Nas X is WSJ magazine‘s music innovator of the year and talks about his social media savviness (“Anybody who tries to s— on me on Twitter, it’s just not gonna work”) and courting controversy (“You take certain things like kissing a guy onstage: I know that’s going to be something that’s talked about. But let’s get into the root cause of why it’s being talked about”).

–Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson were photographed holding hands while riding a roller coaster at a Halloween event on Friday night, but sources insist they’re just friends.

-In his new book, Kal Penn reveals he’s engaged to his boyfriend of 11 years — and that he’s had a boyfriend for 11 years.

–Mariah Carey‘s annual Nov 1’s post included pumpkin smashing this year.

-On a new podcast, Hailey Baldwin talked about standing by Justin Bieber amid his mental health struggles. “I was in it. I made a decision. I know for a fact that I’ve loved this person for a very long time and now would not be the time to give up on him. I just wouldn’t do that to him. Imagine abandoning somebody in the middle of the worst time of their life, potentially. I’m not that type of a person. So I was going to stick it out no matter what the outcome was going to be.”

–Hannah Waddingham and Sharon Stone met on a red carpet this weekend and freaked the hell out over each other.

–Chris Pratt is really leaning into voice work. He’ll play Garfield in a new animated feature. He had had a lead voice role in Disney/Pixar’s Onward, and was recently announced to be voicing Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie.

–Florence Pugh debuted her new, short hairstyle. I dig it.

-I’m not sure that the guy who reportedly handed Alec Baldwin the gun on the set of Rust should be releasing statements that scold the film industry about safety.

-Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants alums Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn hung out for Halloween.

–Steve Buscemi was the best dressed celeb this Halloween.

-Outspoken anti-v*xxer Kristy Swanson has reportedly been hospitalized with covid.

–Ice Cube has dropped out of a comedy costarring Jack Black after declining to get vaccinated. He walked away from a $9 million payday in the process.

–Ed Sheeran says Elton John is good (maybe too good?) at keeping in touch. “I think people think I’m exaggerating and lying when I say he calls every day. He calls me every single morning. Even if it’s like 10 seconds, every single morning he calls.”

-With The Good Place’s William Jackson Harper in the lead, this season of HBO Max’s Love Life is getting glowing reviews.

-I gave up on The Morning Show but have not given up on the recaps to see what wildly ill-conceived plot twists they keep coming up with.

-The upcoming Disney+ Mandalorian spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, got its first trailer today. It stars Temuera Morrison, Ming-Na Wen and Jennifer Beals.

–Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson star in the trailer for Roland Emmerich‘s Moonfall.

Is a New Adele Album About to Drop?

-Instagram may still be down, but that didn’t stop Adele from teasing us. She just tweeted for the first time in months, adding to a long list of hints that she’s about to drop a new album any day now.

-Speaking of stars who moved from IG to Twitter today, Britney Spears posted one of her posing videos with the caption “#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it …”

-In her new memoir, Emily Ratajkowski says Robin Thicke drunkenly groped her on the set of the “Blurred Lines” music video. “Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke. He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [The director, Diane Martel’s] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?’ I pushed my chin forward and shrugged, avoiding eye contact, feeling the heat of humiliation pump through my body. I didn’t react — not really, not like I should have.” She says Martel immediately instituted a “no touching” rule.

-Lil Nas X had the appropriate reaction to Kidz Bop covering his song.

-For some reason, Lizzo thought it would be a good idea to call Chris Brown her “favorite person.” Out loud. In public.

–Lindsay Lohan is starting her own podcast, in which she’ll have “intimate conversations” with friends and famous guests.

-The Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic happened on Saturday and the stars turned up with some lewks.

-Here we go. Members of IATSE, one of Hollywood’s largest labour unions, have voted 98% in favour of authorizing a strike that could shut down most film and TV production.

-Meanwhile, this is a good chat with various crewmembers over the cruelty of over-12-hour workdays, short rest periods and under-$18-an-hour rates on productions that net their stars and studios millions.

-The cast of Squid Game will be on The Tonight Show this Wednesday.

-Venom: Let There Be Carnage did even better than expected by taking in $90.1 million at the box office this past weekend — even better than the first movie (which opened in pre-pandemic times).

-After breaking things off with Elon Musk, Grimes staged an impromptu photoshoot a copy of The Communist Manifesto. It was not received well.

–Oscar Isaac briefly went full frontal in last night’s episode of Scenes from a Marriage, which isn’t even enough to get me to tune back in. I gave up on episode 2 because I was so bored.

-Midnight Mass was good, but my god someone has to tell Mike Flanagan to cut down on the completely uninterrupted monologues.

-There’s barely any buzz about the new slate of TV shows debuting this fall, but the only one that people seem to love is Ghosts. It’s a CBS sitcom, which makes the critical love even more surprising, but it’s got the girl from iZombie who I like a lot.

–Dave Eggers is refusing to sell his new novel on Amazon.

-This is a fascinating read by AIDS activist Peter Staley about how Dallas Buyers Club’s original script was full of homophobia and AIDS denialism.

–Andrew Garfield plays a struggling writer in the trailer for Netflix’s Tick, Tick… Boom!, the autobiographical musical of Rent creator Jonathan Larson. It’s Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s feature directorial debut.

-In a new interview with Another, Zoë Kravitz is branching out from acting and working on a solo album with Jack Antonoff, as well as finishing her directorial debut, Pussy Island. The accompanying photos are a little more topless than I need, because apparently I’m turning into my mother…

–Lena Dunham wore three wedding dresses inspired by Claudia Schiffer, Priscilla Presley and Sharon Tate at her London wedding last weekend.

–Jake Gyllenhaal and his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu made their first public appearance together at the premiere of his sister’s new movie. The 40-year-old actor has been linked to 25-year-old model since 2018.

-On this week’s celebrity news bingo, I did not have “Shakira attacked by wild boars“.

–Aaron Sorkin spoke about the downfall of producer Scott Rudin. “First of all, I have my own experience with Scott, and it’s a higher class of bullying, but I get it.” (I’m more interested by the fact that Josh Charles, who starred in Sorkin’s Sports Night, does not seem to like the interview.)

–This whole thread on Ellen Pompeo is eye-opening, and very much incongruent to how she presents herself as an ally. I know this onset behavior is common (and with actors much lower on the callsheet) but I still can’t believe she volunteered that Denzel story up in a podcast, much less that she did so at the same time a tell-all book is dropping that doesn’t seem to paint her in a great light. Like, why?

–Jamie Spears released a lengthy statement through his lawyer after the court suspended him.

-Meanwhile, Britney Spears is flying high — literally.

-In a new TED Talk, Lizzo opens up about how twerking helped her appreciate her body and delves into the history behind the dance move.

–Lil Nas X says he’s currently single. “I just want to work on music, and every now and then, you know, maybe I’ll kiss a guy every blue moon.”

–Kate Middleton got up close and personal with a tarantula named Charlotte. Prince William did not.

–Graham Norton credits Tom Cruise for getting celebrities comfortable enough to come back into his studio for in-person interviews.

–Daniel Craig has been alerted to the weekend meme. He immediately recognized that it’s not the worst thing to be associated with kicking off what we’re all looking forward to, saying “They do? It’s amazing. I don’t know what that is, but thank you. That’s lovely.”

-To say the reviews for Venom: Let There Be Carnage are mixed would be kind. It’s currently 61% on RottenTomatoes (a drop of 10% since I looked this morning). Some outlets, like the L.A. Times and the Washington Post, gave it raves, but a lot of critics are piling on the venom, calling it a ‘ridiculous mess’ and a ‘porn tentacle fest’ that feels like ‘the mold in the Avengers’ shower.’

–Lily-Rose Depp (who is everywhere lately) falls in love with a guy who thinks he’s a wolf (George MacKay) in the Wolf trailer.
