Beyonce Takes Questions from Fans

Beyonce-Elle-January-Cover

Beyonce did an interview! Kinda! She answered questions in Elle that were sent in via email and social media. And she almost certainly answered them via email. Ok, so not really an interview at all then but still! Beyonce speaks! The topics range from everything from shopping at Target to giving to charities to surviving miscarriages.

-People are really upset that Lizzo showed off her butt at the Lakers game with a thong dress. I mean, it got her name trending just as she was dropping a new video so good on her?

Chrissy Teigen did an impromptu Twitter Q&A session and she was remarkably candid about celeb life, opening up about hired help, free clothing, secret social accounts, paparazzi and more.

Daisy Ridley is getting a lot of (justified) flack for her obliviousness and confusion when an interviewer asked her about her privilege.

-The Golden Globes are always dumb but this morning’s nominations were especially dumb. No women were nominated for best director or screenplay. On the TV side, they somehow loved The Morning Show and Catch-22 but shut out Watchmen, Veep, Barry, When They See Us and Schitt’s Creek. A huge surprise was Cats getting shut out of the major categories even though the HFPA screened it — and it seemed like the perfect film for the Golden Globes.

-I watched A Marriage Story and while I refuse to get sucked into the ‘whose side was it on?’ conversation, I can wholeheartedly say that my favourite bit was this Merritt Wever scene: part 1, part 2.

Miley Cyrus, who’s in the middle of getting a divorce from Liam Hemsworth, got a new tattoo that says “Freedom.”

-God bless Pajiba for reminding us all of the time Adrien Brody bought a castle for Elsa Pataky, then they did a 35-page spread exclusive for Hello! about it, then she dumped him for Chris Hemsworth.

-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is asking the filmmakers behind Richard Jewell to release a statement acknowledging it took dramatic license when it portrayed their journalist Kathy Scruggs as trading sex for scoops. I’m actually surprised that Olivia Wilde, who plays the late Scruggs, has been defending the movie’s use of this tired, terrible trope, seeing as she’s the daughter of two journalists.

-Say what you will about Ryan Reynolds (and ohh boy, I have) but he sure knows how to capitalize on a social media trend. His gin company hired the Peloton commercial wife for their latest ad.

-Meanwhile, Ryan is stuck in a video game in the first trailer for Free Guy.

-The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer has arrived and it’s glorious.

Zendaya Talks Fame and Fashion

Zendaya Allure cover

Zendaya looks amazing per usual on the cover of Allure, where she talks about acting vs making music (“There’s a layer of personal life that I think actors get that music artists don’t. They have no character to hide behind, so they have to be very open. [As actors] we get a little bit of a separation”) and why she stipulated that her Tommy Hillfiger collaboration come in plus sizes (“That was my thing — I’m not going to make clothes my sister or my niece or any of the women in my family can’t wear. A lot of the clothes were for tall people too. For my mom, this is the first time that she can wear pants and not get them altered — she’s six feet four”).

Harry Styles talks about doing mushrooms while recording his new album. “I think part of the thing with the mushrooms thing for me is that I never do anything when I’m working, and I don’t even drink when I’m working, if I’m touring or anything. I don’t drink really at all. When I was in [One Direction], it was like, to me, it felt like it was so much bigger than any of us that I kind of felt like, ‘I’m not going to be the one who f**ks it up.'”

Chris Evans says that starring in giant blockbusters hasn’t stopped him from sharing his political views on Twitter. “I did it during Cap, too; it wasn’t like I waited until that run was over. I was doing it while we were filming those movies…I’ve never felt limited or handcuffed by the roles I play or the studios I worked for. I never in my life had a studio tell me to watch what I’m saying.”

-SNL’s musical guest this weekend is King Princess and I cannot wait! (Will Ferrell is the host.)

Jane Fonda avoided arrest, but Diane Lane, Amber Valletta, and Piper Perabo were rounded up at today’s D.C. climate protest.

-Apple just pulled The Banker, starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson, until further notice following sexual misconduct allegations about Bernard Garrett Jr., the son of the character played by Mackie in the film.

Elsa Pataky is defending brother-in-law Liam Hemsworth following his split from Miley Cyrus: “After a relationship that you’ve dedicated ten years to, he’s a little bit down, but he’s coping well. He’s a strong boy and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much better.”

-On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Billie Eilish spoke to kids about their dreams and got freaked out when a little boy told her that he dreams about Pennywise — who was in the room with them at that moment.

Nick Carter and his sister Angel have been granted restraining orders against their brother, Aaron.

-Here’s the first trailer for Antebellum starring Janelle Monáe. Oh hells no.

The Game of Thrones Empire is Collapsing

-Woof, there was a ton of drama surrounding Game of Thrones-adjacent stuff today. First, it was announced that GoT showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would NOT be making three new Star Wars movies after all. Their excuse is that they’re too busy. There’s a lot of talk today that maybe their public acknowledgements this weekend that they had no idea what they’re doing got them fired, but I think Kathleen Kennedy‘s passive-aggressive statement indicates that maybe Star Wars didn’t have their full attention after they inked a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix. She said: “We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars”.

-In even more shocking GoT-related news, HBO is not moving forward with the prequel pilot starring Naomi Watts. Fan enthusiasm for Game of Thrones cooled considerably in the final season (this thread spells it out well), but the GoT brand is still so massive for HBO internationally. The truly sucky thing is that Benioff and Weiss drove the brand into the ground, but this show (which was going to have a female showrunner) is paying the price.

-Judging by this clip, Meghan McCain pushed Whoopi Goldberg too far today on The View during a discussion about the treatment of veterans.

Kanye West said a lot of crazy and exhausting things yesterday, including that God rewarded him with $68 million tax refund for becoming born-again Christian.

-How did I have no idea that Stranger Things’ David Harbour is dating singer Lily Allen?!? Well done, you crazy kids.

-I’m hearing so many good things about Hulu’s Looking for Alaska, but I especially enjoyed this piece that looked at the show through the lens of Tumblr’s love/hate relationship with John Green, the author who wrote the book the show is based on.

-In an new interview, Selena Gomez talked about her “toxic” first love whose name everyone is pretty sure rhymes with Wustin Meiber: “You’re in a phase of life where you experience love for the first time, and I think that can just be just a little toxic. You have this codependency that you think is love, and then you have this addiction to the passion and the frustration with each other that you think, ‘Oh, that’s love,’… and I believed that for a long time.”

-I can’t believe I want to watch a show about a twerking Emily Dickinson, but the reviews for Apple’s new series are so good!

-My fave running joke on Keep It is when the make fun of podcaster (and Ronan Farrow‘s fiancee) Jon Lovett, so this bit in Farrow’s Catch and Kill book slayed me.

Idris Elba and Liam Hemsworth are both in Montreal right now and everyone’s getting the vapors.

Kurt Sutter says he was fired from FX’s Mayans MC because of simmering tensions with his new Disney bosses, which he says came to a head because he turned in scripts too late to allow them to give notes, and because he wrote a raunchy Disney joke into one episode. “I want to be clear about this. I was dismissed for being an abrasive dick. But there was no improper behavior and no one picked up the phone and complained about me.” (Even though in the original reporting, it was alleged he was fired following an investigation after writers, producers, cast and crew reported a hostile work environment on the show.)

-The final Knives Out trailer has arrived. I. CAN. NOT. WAIT.
