Kristen Bell Talks Boundaries

Romper Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell is a chronic over-sharer (seriously, we know a LOT about her marriage) but one thing she says she won’t share is her kids’ faces. In the new issue of Romper, she says “My feeling is that I chose a career in the public eye. I chose to be quoted, I chose to have my picture taken. I don’t know them yet. I don’t know if they will want that. So I really don’t have the right to choose for them.”

-Beyoncé just announced a multi-year partnership with Peloton to produce exclusive fitness content. As if I didn’t want one of these things already…

Sebastian Stan spent the first part of the pandemic bitching on social about people who were travelling, but now it seems like all he does is go on exotic vacations? In any case, his latest jaunt to Mexico featured cozy times with Alejandra Onieva.

-Just when you thought Phil Collins’ divorce proceedings couldn’t get uglier comes accusations from his ex of impotence and neglecting to bathe or brush his teeth for months.

-The Grey’s Anatomy showrunner very politely implied that Justin Chambers‘ exit screwed up her endgame plans, but won’t discuss details of his incredibly abrupt departure. “It’s just not my story to tell.”

Zach Braff, who’s 45, talked about his girlfriend Florence Pugh, who’s 24, and why he hasn’t discussed their age difference since she posted this video addressing the criticism of their relationship on Instagram. “She literally sat down, hit record on her phone and said that. I thought: how could I possibly follow anything as intelligent and articulate as that? So, I chose not to.”

-SNL had just 85 minutes to recreate Kamala Harris’ white pantsuit for Maya Rudolph to wear before the show went live.

Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to replace Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. What an upgrade!

-I’m really bummed that Robbie Amell had to drop out of The Hating Game. It is my FAVOURITE romcom (seriously, if you haven’t read it yet go fix your life) and he would have made a great Josh.

-This is a good overview of what’s going on in the movie industry, and why consumers now expecting a seamless shift of blockbusters from the big screen to their homes are about to get a rude awakening.

-The reviews for Netflix’s Hillbilly Elegy are hilariously negative. (Hilarious because the Oscar-baiting poverty porn trailer looked so, so bad.)

-Meanwhile, Netflix’s holiday romcom series Dash & Lily is debuting this week to good reviews.

-Spy costars Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale reunite for the Superintelligence trailer. This time he’s playing her love interest, which I *adore*.

Ben Affleck Gets Emotional for GMA

Ben Affleck‘s press tour for The Way Back continues, and I guess his default setting this week is “emotionally raw.” He sat down with Diane Sawyer and revealed that his dad and aunt were alcoholics (“Seeing my dad, he was drunk everyday and that was just life. And that was painful and I always said ‘that will never be me. I’m never going to do that”) and got choked up when talking about his marriage to Jennifer Garner (“I never thought that I was gonna get divorced. I didn’t want to get divorced. I didn’t want to be a divorced person. I really didn’t want to be a split family with my children. And it upset me because it meant it wasn’t who I thought I was. And that was so painful and so disappointing in myself…I really don’t want my children to pay for my sins or be afraid for me”).

Affleck also credits Bradley Cooper and Robert Downey Jr. for being “very supportive” of his sobriety and says he “feels a great sense of gratitude” toward them.

-Move over, Carpool Karaoke. My fave James Corden recurring bit is when he gets toddlers to teach is guests a dance routine. This one with Justin Bieber is very cute.

Billie Eilish surprised a 16-year-old fan during an emotional interview and good lord did it suddenly get dusty in here?!

-This is an interesting take on how The Witcher and The Mandalorian are in some ways throwbacks to an older era of TV.

-First Wives Club stars Goldie Hawn, Better Midler, and Diane Keaton are reuniting for a movie and I really needed this news today.

-There was a bad, BAD take that tore Twitter apart today about how Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t really become famous until Titanic came out in 1997 and when I read the article I felt like I was being gaslit. Of course he was a star before then! He was on the cover of Tiger Beat for years. He was on Growing Pains for a whole season. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Romeo + Juliet made him really famous in 1996. Yes, he reached a whole other level of mega-stardom with Titanic, but anyone who thinks he wasn’t famous before that just comes off like they don’t believe teen girls can be arbiters of pop culture, which is a shitty take. That’s like saying BTS aren’t famous because music critics don’t get them.

-I loved Adele‘s bridesmaids look.

Jalaiah was on Ellen to show off her Renegade dance moves.

-Everyone is very excited about the new Westworld trailer and yes, it does look very good but have we learned nothing?!?

-Here’s the first trailer for Shailene Woodley’s new romantic drama Endings Beginnings, in which she can’t decide between Sebastian Stan and Jamie Dornan so she sleeps with them both. I saw it at TIFF and I spent the whole movie undecided about who she should choose. I still can’t pick!

Stars Shine at Oscar After-Parties

-Once again, I liked a lot of celebs’ after-party looks more than their Oscar red carpet choices, including Gal Gadot’sFlorence Pugh’s, Greta Gerwig’s and Billie Eilish’s (who hung out with Timothee Chalamet). Other stellar after party looks included Hunter Schafer, Tessa Thompson, Rihanna, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Adele also showed up to an after-party and she was barely recognizable. I mean, I hope she’s happy and healthy but this is drastic.

-ICYMI: here are our picks for Oscars’ best and worst dressed.

-I’m still in (happy) shock that Parasite won last night. The ranked ballot (which only applies to the Best Picture category) certainly helped; lots of people would have had to choose it as their top pick, but a lot of people would have had to have it as their 2nd or 3rd choice.

-I’m still not sold on the Parasite TV series, but this is intriguing.

Bong Joon Ho apologized to the Oscar engravers: “I’m so sorry for the hard work, there’s too many.” As Linda Holmes pointed out, this guy spent the awards season giving a master class on how to appear “humble-but-aloof, grateful-but-not-thirsty, honored-but-not-waiting-for-your-approval.”

-This is actually quite sweet. Shia LaBeouf was offered to present an Oscar. He said he would do it if he could share that moment with his Peanut Butter Falcon co-star Zach Gottsagen.

Camila Morrone attended the Oscars with bf Leonardo DiCaprio — and she wore a wedding dress.

-With the revelation that Brad Pitt likes Letterkenny, paired with him recently telling Marc Maron that he’s watched his comedy series multiple times, I’m now picturing him sitting at home and watching quirky, under-the-radar comedies all day.

-The Oscars telecast reached an all-time low rating, dropping sharply from last year. It did much better in Canada (proportionally).

-The night before the Oscars was the Spirit Awards, where Laura Dern was serenaded with her own song.
