Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg Preview Golden Globes

-If their banter in this Hollywood Reporter interview is any indication, Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg are going to be a goddamn delight at the Globes on Sunday night.

Laura Dern‘s new Vanity Fair cover story is making me realize that the world needs more Laura Dern cover stories!

-Congrats to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who are reportedly expecting a fourth child via surrogate.

-Meanwhile, Kanye demanded a ‘public apology’ from Drake for following Kim on Instagram.

-Eww! Why is Drake partying with Chris Brown?! Bad Drake! Bad!

Tiffany Haddish apologized for bad set on New Year’s Eve. Realizing it wasn’t working, she reportedly cut her set short to drink some Ciroc with the fans who stuck around. Meanwhile, several comedians have jumped to her defense on Twitter, pointing out that bombing is pretty normal.

Pete Davidson returned to the public eye for a stand up set, in which he revealed that Louis C.K. once tried to get him fired from SNL.

-Meanwhile, I really liked Andy Richter‘s thread on Louis C.K. and his new comedic formula, as well as this take on how he’s trying to recast himself as a victim of political correctness.

-The rumoured 90201 “reboot” is not actually a reboot or revival after all. As it’s currently being shopped around, it’s actually an hour-long mockumentary-style dramedy that would find former 90210 cast members Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris playing themselves which — maybe let’s just not?

-This is an interesting look at how Tom Cruise‘s wedding to Katie Holmes changed how people view Scientology.

-The reviews for True Detective season three are in — and they’re actually pretty good? Lots of critics are calling it a return to form after the terrible last season, and everyone is praising Mahershala Ali‘s performance.

Jennifer Aniston rang in the new year in Wyoming with Jason Bateman, Jimmy Kimmel and Sandra Bullock. I would watch that movie.

-I love this article on how Celine Dion became cool (not that she wasn’t already).

-The trailer for Netflix’s new series Sex Education, starring Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield, has arrived. This actually looks pretty great.

SAG Awards 2018: Best and Worst Dressed

While the recent Golden Globes red carpet was a sea of black gowns, celebrities brought colour back in a big way at the SAG Awards (but weirdly, most seemed to drop the #TimeUp pins). But on the plus side, E! seemed to get the memo and asked actors about the movement instead of just talking about it with the actresses. Meanwhile, the winners were basically a repeat of the Globes with 3 Billboards leading the way, which…oof.

Fashion-wise, the good outweighed the bad, but not everyone knocked it out of the park. Here are my picks for the best and worst dressed at the 2018 SAG Awards.

BEST DRESSED:

Grownish star Yara Shahidi proves that jumpsuits can make just as much of an impact as a ballgown. This look is fire!

Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks‘ red and black sequined gown by Marc Bouwer is one of my faves of the night. Simply stunning.

Silver sequins are a very big theme on this red carpet, with Allison Janney and Olivia Munn serving up some fierce metallic looks. But no one did it better than Lupita Nyong’o in this flattering, form-fitting Ralph & Russo. I want to marry this dress.

I love Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer’s look. She knows how to dress for her petite frame, and the embellished skirt on her Christian Dior gown is a weird twist worthy of her show.

Gina Rodriguez is one of the few women to wear a #TimesUp pin which makes us love her. We’re also feeling the love for her detailed floral Rasario number.

Honourable mentions: Samira Wiley, Allison Williams, Brie Larson, Halle Berry and Mary J. Blige

WORST DRESSED:

Pale pink is a major theme, with Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Marsia Tomei, Laura Linney, Connie Britton, and Millie Bobby Brown all sporting the hue. Frankly, I don’t love any of them, but Saoirse Ronan is the worst for me. She’s always taking risks this year and I love her for it, but this Louis Vuitton dress is a miss. The silver strip looks like it was added at the last minute and is barely hanging on.

Kate Hudson has a badass new haircut and should be wearing a badass dress to match. Instead, she looks like an old-timey grandma in this matronly Maison Valentino.

When I first saw Laura Dern I could only see the top half of her Dior and was so hopeful. And then the camera panned down to reveal the sheer madness of the bottom. Any dress that makes it look like you’re wearing grey granny panties should be an automatic “no.”

I love the structure of Holly Hunter’s Paule Ka dress (and it has pockets!), but I hate the colour. To be fair to her, I’m not sure anyone could possibly make this work. Greta Gerwig had a similar colour issue with her dress.

How does a bad outfit like this happen to a good person like The Shape of Water star Sally Hawkins? I don’t understand.

Dishonourable mentions: Alison Brie, Nicole Kidman, Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Maya Rudolph

Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Oprah & More Discuss Fame and Taking Control

Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Lange, Elisabeth Moss

-THR’s TV Actress Roundtable this year includes Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Lange, Elisabeth Moss and Chrissy Metz. Once again, Reese brings up the blind item about the crappy movie that leading ladies were fighting over. When she first brought it up, everyone assumed it was Mortdecai but now A Million Ways to Die in the West is picking up steam.

-Speaking of great group convos, The LA Times drama actor roundtable includes Justin Theroux, Laura Dern, Regina King and Milo Ventimiglia.

-The Mummy review embargo was lifted at noon today and suddenly Twitter was filled with hate for the movie, with critics calling it Tom Cruise’s worst ever. (Not that The Mummy movies have ever been well-reviewed…)

George Clooney’s dad, Nick, is spilling details about the twins.

-Gilmore Girls’ Liza Weil is dating her HTGAWM costar Charlie Weber? Wayment – since when is she no longer married to the guy from Private Practice and Prison Break?! I loved them!

-Even though he split from Olivia Munn, Aaron Rodgers reportedly still isn’t talking to his family. Wow, it’s almost like she wasn’t to blame for the estrangement in the first place. Imagine that.

-Just in case you needed more proof that Gal Gadot is awesome, she was pregnant while filming Wonder Woman.

-Also, it’s crazy that Patty Jenkins has NO deal for a Wonder Woman sequel yet.

-Nothing has tickled me more than my entire Twitter feed trying to re-evaluate their famous Chris rankings this week…

-The National Enquirer era of Us Weekly has started. This Ivanka-positive cover is a mess. US is now owned by a Trump confidant and member of his Health Advisory Board.

Alexis Bledel and director Reed Morano break down how they created the most haunting scene from The Handmaid’s Tale.

-The latest Actors on Actors features Michelle Pfeiffer and Sarah Jessica Parker interviewing each other. If you don’t want to watch the whole episode, here are clips of SJP talking about SATC, and her trying to convince Pfeiffer that Into the Night is a good movie.

-Meanwhile, it’s SATC’s 20th anniversary, which reminds me of my favourite article on its legacy and why it deserves more praise.

-A deaf woman sang on America’s Got Talent and made the whole country cry at once.

-Vulture has a joint conversation with Ann Dowd and Margo Martindale and now I just want them to star in a buddy movie.

-This is charming: Prince Harry reunited with a 97-year-old fan in the pouring rain.

-Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom says she doesn’t want to campaign for the Emmys — in this music video about campaigning for the Emmys.

Felicity Jones debuted her engagement ring on the red carpet.

-Here’s our first look at Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep in Mary Poppins Returns.

-This is a great deep dive look into The Joy Luck Club and how that movie almost didn’t get made.

Nicole Kidman is a hockey fan? I did NOT see that coming.

-Also, on James Corden last night Nicole tried to pressure Kit Harington to propose to his girlfriend and Game of Thrones costar Rose Leslie.

Ed Sheeran joined James Corden for an acoustic Carpool Karaoke last night. I tried really hard to watch it but 13+ minutes of Ed Sheeran was beyond my capabilities today.
