Zendaya Spins a Web at Spider-Man Premiere

–Zendaya’s look at the big Hollywood premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home was total perfection.

-Despite the tangled web of a plot that sees Peter Parker delve into the confusing multiverse, Spider-Man: No Way Home seems to have won over critics.

-The predictions for the box office seem insane, considering that the new variant will likely keep some people home this weekend. Industry experts are predicting a $150 million debut.

–Ben Affleck told Howard Stern that he began to drink more as his marriage to Jennifer Garner unraveled. “That was part of why I started drinking alcohol — I was trapped. I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I am not happy. What do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution…I probably still would’ve been drinking [if I stayed].” God, I hope his kids don’t ever read that…

–Kim Kardashian wants to speed up her divorce from Kanye West. In new court filings, she said, “I have been attempting to settle our dissolution with [West] since I filed for divorce in February 2021. I have requested several times that [he] agree to bifurcate and terminate our marital status. [He] has not responded to my request.”

-Meanwhile, a source tells People that Kanye West “isn’t giving up without a fight.”

–Keanu Reeves talked to Stephen Colbert about the origins of the Sad Keanu meme. “I’m just eating a sandwich! I was thinking… I had some stuff going on. I was hungry.”

-General Hospital’s Ingo Rademacher is suing ABC for firing him over his refusal to get vaccinated. “My body is endowed by my creator with natural processes to protect me.”

–Billie Eilish says she got covid a few months ago. “I want it to be clear that it is because of the vaccine I’m fine. I think if I weren’t vaccinated, I would have, like, died, because it was bad. When I say it was bad, I more just mean that it felt horrible…I still have side effects. I was sick for, like, two months almost. This was in August, a couple months ago.”

–Dakota Johnson explained her Architectural Digest video that featured a big bowl of limes on her kitchen counter despite her saying she’s allergic to them. “You know, they have somebody who is super talented come in and make your house look amazing. So they put this big bowl of limes, which I [first] saw while we were filming. And it was funny. So I talked about it because who has a bowl of only limes?”

–Avril Lavigne is turning “Sk8er Boi” into a film. I’d watch it.

–Patti Harrison, Simon Rex, and Taylour Paige just became first-time Spirit Awards nominees. I’ve seen two of those performances (Harrison in Together Together and Rex in Red Rocket), and both are worthy of recognition.

–Flavor Flav was nearly killed by a boulder while driving.

-Vulture interviewed a doctor about all the things that went wrong on And Just Like That.

–J. Smith-Cameron was asked about Succession costar Jeremy Strong‘s now infamous profile, and her response was perfect. “I didn’t feel the New Yorker piece was an attack on him. I don’t know whether that’s me just being a little insensitive. I felt like it was trying to be very objective about what seemed like very extreme practices. I thought Jessica Chastain and Aaron Sorkin coming to his defense was wonderful, but I didn’t think it was really necessary because I didn’t think he was exactly maligned. It’s not a puff piece, certainly. It’s Jeremy saying in his own words what his values are and what his process is.”

-A judge upheld assault charges against Tory Lanez for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

-Someone created a trailer for Tick Tick Boom with the Muppets and it’s so perfect.

-This is an excellent interview with Kathleen Turner. I especially like her take on method acting and how she doesn’t include it in the acting class she’s teaching at NYU. “My course is called ‘Practical Acting: Shut Up and Do It’…All that ‘call me by my character name’ stuff? Fuck it. Isn’t the idea that we’re supposed to find our own unique voice? How can you achieve that by forcibly imitating anyone else? I’ve never understood that. Your job, through school and throughout your life, should be to learn how *you* work best as an actor.”

-The cast for Apple+’s Afterparty is incredible. This trailer intrigues me.

–Halle Berry covers Women’s Health to promote Bruised and talks about stepping into the ring to fight and stepping behind camera to direct. “When I realized I couldn’t find a director who saw this story like I saw it, I had a moment of reckoning. I finally realized that at this point in my life, I was ready. I had to take control. I said, ‘Okay, I’m going to work harder than I’ve ever worked.’ ”

–Gugu Mbatha-Raw covers Variety UK and discusses the “illusion” of diversity on TV: “It’s very diverse in front of the camera, and people accept that…When you look at camera operators, sound engineers and everyone behind the scenes, it’s a very different picture.”

-Five years after it happened, 12 people have been charged for robbing Kim Kardashian at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room.

-The original cast of Saved By the Bell appeared in the reboot for a scene honouring Screech (the late Dustin Diamond). Why are they all so … shiny?

-Speaking of the Saved By the Bell reboot — they’re doing a tribute to Showgirls?!

–Zoë Kravitz is talking up The Batman costar Robert Pattinson in her new interview with Variety. “Rob is perfect for this role. He was incredible. His transformation was out of this world.”

-There’s something wonderful about the random collection of celebs who attended Danny DeVito’s bday party.

–Prince William is once again criticizing population growth in Africa, blaming it for destroying wildlife on the continent (which is pretty rich coming from someone who’s expecting his third child).

-Meanwhile, BBC’s new documentary, The Princes and the Press, claims he has been reaching out to the tabloid press to build a better relationship and influence their stories.

-Amid rumours about her health, Prince Charles insists the Queen is “alright,” adding “Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be. It’s bad enough at 73.”

-This Is Us’ main adult cast fought for — and got — $2 million cash bonuses for the final season.

–Benedict Cumberbatch talked about The Power of the Dog’s themes of toxic masculinity, saying “We need to fix the behaviour of men. You have to kind of lift the lid on the engine a little bit.”

–Louis C.K. and Dave Chappelle were both nominated for Grammys. Being cancelled seems real rough.

-The annual Book Concierge from NPR is always worth browsing through for good recommendations. (Though it breaks my heart to see some of my fave books from this year are blurbed by Petra Mayer, the late great NPR book editor.)

-Disney’s Encanto is getting rave reviews.

-Speaking of raves, I don’t watch The Great British Baking Show, but people are going nuts about the semifinal episode.

-Star Trek Discovery has left Netflix, much to fans’ disappointment.

-Speaking of Star Trek Discovery, star Sonequa Martin-Green paid tribute to Whoopi Goldberg on The View. “I am your accomplishment and I thank you.”

-This is a cute TikTok tie-in to the new Spider-Man movie.

Adele Gives Good Face

-I adore this 80s-ish photoshoot with Adele for The Face. In the interview, she talked about her ex-husband, Simon Konecki and why she was so drawn to him. “I was like, ‘I’d be a f**king damn fool to walk away from this man being the father of my child compared to any other man that I encountered before or after up until recently, phew! I would’ve regretted that, forever.”

-Meanwhile, she told Apple Music that she isn’t making music for TikTok. “I’d rather cater to people who are on my level in terms of the amount of time we’ve spent on Earth and the things we’ve been through.”

-It’s happening. Sources tell E! News that Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson are indeed dating after they were photographed holding hands in Palm Springs. “He makes her laugh the entire time they are together and she is completely enthralled by him.” (People are amused/scandalized that she’s wearing Yeezys in the photos.)

–Jennifer Lawrence and her baby bump attended a screening of Don’t Look Up (though I’m much more focused on what Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill are wearing).

–Sam Asghari attended the House of Gucci premiere (which is…huh) and talked about his plans with Britney Spears. “We’re getting ready for a wedding, baby!”

–Simu Liu tries to keep the peace between Saweetie and Kyle Mooney in his SNL promo.

–Blake Lively is promoting her new line of mixers — but it doesn’t sound like she’ll be enjoying them herself. “I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being a part of it.”

-In a new Hawkeye clip, Clint and Kate play with fire to take down the Tracksuit Mafia. Meanwhile, the NYT profiles Jeremy Renner, who somehow has two shows dropping at the same time: Hawkeye and Mayor of Kingstown.

-The Office’s Brian Baumgartner (who played Kevin) wrote a new book about the show, and in it John Krasinski talks about the only scene he pushed back on, which saw Jim make out with Pam’s replacement Cathy when Pam was on maternity leave. “That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down…I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, ‘I’m not going to shoot it.’ There is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back.”

-Speaking of The Office, Mindy Kaling was on Kelly Clarkson’s show and they tried her character Kelly Kapoor’s “disgusting” favourite cocktail.

-This is a really great read on the state of made-for-cable holiday movies.

–Jonah Hill is set to play Jerry Garcia in a film about The Grateful Dead from Martin Scorsese.

-Discovery+ is planning a documentary on the tumultuous relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

–Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka are the latest to call for an investigation after tennis player Peng Shuai went missing after accusing a former top official of sexually assaulting her.

-Here’s an interesting interview with Jason Reitman, in which he talked for an hour about a lot of things that have besides the movie he was promoting.

-I’m bummed for John Cho that the reviews for Cowboy Beebop are not good.

–Mariah Carey is back with another holiday event on Apple+, this one featuring Khalid, Kirk Franklin, Apple Music personality Zane Lowe and her twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Here’s the trailer.

–Chloë Grace Moretz plays a pregnant woman warring against A.I. in the trailer for Hulu’s Mother/Android.
