-Bloomberg’s latest cover story is about how Jessica Simpson’s billion-dollar fashion brand fell into the hands of the wrong company, and her expensive two-year battle to get it back that involved getting a loan, going to bankruptcy court, and considering borrowing against her mortgage.

–Denzel Washington says he doesn’t even remember clashing with Ellen Pompeo on the Grey’s Anatomy set, which is a delicious burn.

–Kayne West’s new girlfriend Julia Fox once did a Paper Magazine photoshoot with Pete Davidson, who is Kim Kardashian‘s new boyfriend. Conspiracy theories abound.

–Jessica Chastain was on Ellen’s show and told a story about the time she threw a party and her grandmother sat on Bradley Cooper’s lap. “He looked horrified, actually. He had never met her. He didn’t know who she was. I saw it kinda happening in slow motion where I was like, ‘No!’ I just started going, ‘It’s my grandma! It’s my grandma!’ Then he was like, ‘Okay. Hi, Grandma.”

-I really liked this article on all the literary allusions and alliterations in The Lost Daughter.

–Joyce Carol Oates is always a wild follow on Twitter, but yesterday was even more wild than usual.

–Britney Spears is back to posting nudes on Instagram and we all have to be ok with it because she’s allowed to do whatever the hell she wants. (Her earlier post about how excited she was to go to a restaurant and how she hadn’t had a glass of wine in 13 years kind of broke my heart.)

-Search Party returns tomorrow for its final season and I can’t wait.

-There was a fascinating Vulture article in the fall about how someone in the book industry kept stealing manuscripts, and no one knew who it was. They finally found him! The FBI arrested a young rights coordinator at a major publisher.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Split

–Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas have split up . It’s a holiday in the US, which makes it a good day to try to slip this news under the radar. Still, the People quotes from sources are pretty supportive of both sides, and yet she’s been officially positioned as the dumper and he’s the dumpee. I wonder how they worked that out.

–Armie Hammer has apologized after his finsta leaked and it included a post that showed an unidentified woman in lingerie on her hands and knees on a hotel bed, whom he referred to as ‘Miss Cayman.’ He issued a statement to the Cayman Compass: “I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman.” First of all, if he posted it to Instagram it’s not exactly “stolen.” Secondly, *this* is what he feels the need to apologize about?! I gotta hope he’s just getting warmed up.

-This is a good take on how the cannibalism accusations are the least disturbing in this saga. His last girlfriend said she checked herself into a 30-day partial hospitalization program designed to treat PTSD and trauma following their 2-month relationship last year. I also liked this thread about how damaging it is for him to say he prefers rough sex but stopped wanting it with his wife because that’s the mother of his children and he grew to respect her too much.

-He was also reportedly fantasizing about sex during BLM protests, so it just gets better and better.

–Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey look like they’re having a blast on vacation. Are paps just hanging out in St. Barts or….?

-I don’t watch Batwoman but according to critics, the show isn’t really feeling the loss of Ruby Rose‘s departure. They’re loving Javicia Leslie, who took over the leading role in last night’s episode.

–Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ‘vagina’ candle reportedly exploded in a UK woman’s home, which was a gift for headline writers today.

–Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League is going to be a 4-hour movie on HBO Max, not a 4-hour miniseries. Twitter seems to think this is a big deal, but I continue to care a negative amount about this entire project.

–Matt Damon has joined the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. There’s no word if he’s got a bigger role than the cameo he made in Ragnarok.

-I like these predictions about how TV may soon change. Moving late-night shows to prime time seems like a no-brainer.

-Here’s the trailer for the new series The Equalizer, premiering after the Super Bowl. I’m not really into CBS shows, but I *am* into watching Queen Latifah being an ass-kicking vigilante.

-If you thought you already knew everything about Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas‘ wedding — you’d probably be right. But they’re still on the new cover of People and all over Hello!’s social media. Good for them for wringing every last cent from the festivities, I guess.

-Meanwhile, this tongue-in-cheek deep-dive into the validity of their relationship is hilarious. “Nicholas Jonas married into a fraudulent relationship against his will this past Sunday, December the 2, and I’ll tell you why I think so.”

-GQ interviewed a bunch of people about the late Anthony Bourdain and collected their stories, and goddammit the resulting article made me weepy. “He turned to Tony and said, ‘How far can you keep going? Where else can you go? You can’t go to the moon!’ And Tony goes, ‘Really? Why not? I’ll go to the moon and make an episode on the moon. I’ll go anywhere.'”

-The CW is developing a Jane The Virgin spin-off series that will be written by long-time show writer Valentina Garza and will involve Gina Rodriguez.

–Kayne West apologized after being caught on his phone at Cher‘s Broadway show. (This is in no way an excuse, but apparently the show is really, really bad.)

-Wait, Demi Moore allegedly has a secret girlfriend? I can’t believe I missed this until now!

-Netflix will reportedly pay WarnerMedia $100M in 2019 to continue streaming Friends (up from $30M). This is NUTS — especially because it will soon be available on another streaming site next year.

-BBC just announced that Luther will air on New Year’s Day. Perfect hangover cure!

-The big guns came out for Ryan Murphy’s Walk of Fame star ceremony, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson.

-The Actors on Actors interviews always result in some interesting pairings. The latest has Timothee Chalamet and Emma Stone talking about dealing with rejection, Melissa McCarthy and Lupita Nyong’o discussing women in Hollywood, Charlize Theron and Michael B Jordan talking about the impact of Black Panther, and Lady Gaga and Lin-Manuel Miranda talking about writing Shallow.

-Variety’s list of 10 directors to watch for 2019 includes 6 women.

-People are loving the new Captain Marvel trailer. (Though I’m not quite sure why people are calling it a “course correction” because I loved the first trailer too.)
