W’s Great Performances Covers

-A slew of stars posed for W’s Great Performances issues, and some covers were way zanier than others.

–Jake Gyllenhaal is seemingly trolling Swifties in his photoshoot for W Magazine, where he sports a pair of red heart sunglasses that are almost identical to the ones Taylor Swift wore in her “22” music video. I love this level of pettiness.

-In his W profile, Adam Driver says he doesn’t attend wrap parties. “I haven’t been to a wrap party since Girls. I just want to get the character out of my system and go home.” What a bummer for the crew.

-Love is dead. Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have announced their split.

-On the other side of the coin, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly got engaged. (I’m so curious about who was filming this. There are multiple angles in the video!) Also, is there a proposal uniform? His buddy Travis Barker wore a similar shirt. (This is my fave tweet about it.)

-Welp. The Queen has stripped Prince Andrew of his military affiliations and he will “no longer use the style ‘His Royal Highness’ in any official capacity.” The palace added in their brief statement that he will be defending himself in the sexual abuse case “as a private citizen.”

–Kanye West was allegedly involved in a battery incident in Los Angeles. He was named as a suspect in a battery report (rumoured to involve him hitting a fan) taken by the LAPD’s Newton Division early on Thursday morning. TMZ has video of him yelling at someone, though its not clear who. He was not arrested and a rep has yet to comment.

-Before all that hubbub, he was with Julia Fox, Madonna and Floyd Mayweather at Delilah nightclub last night. There’s a really cringey video of them all listening to music.

-Meanwhile, Julia Fox addressed criticism about their relationship, denying that they’re only spending time together for attention.

–Bob Saget‘s widow is expressing her gratitude for John Mayer and Jeff Ross, who picked up his car from LAX for her.

–David Beckham packed wife Victoria Beckham‘s lunch with a note that said, “Enjoy lunch ***hole… Come home happier.” She posted it with the caption, “Even when I’m grumpy he looks after me.”

–Halle Berry penned a tribute to Sidney Poitier: “I was a child who, like my parents’ interracial relationship, never quite fit in. In those years, it was rare to see Blacks in leading roles, much less have our narratives celebrated or even acknowledged.”

-I keep trying to avoid the Drake/hot sauce story but the memes are hilarious.

-Ohhhh, Nicole Kidman *should* host the Oscars.

-This is a great interview with Matilda Lawler, the 13-year-old who’s crushing it on Station Eleven.

-There’s been a lot of speculation about who will play fan favourite Nikolai in the second season of Shadow and Bone — and Patrick Gibson of The OA has landed the role. Other new cast members include Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar, Lewis Tan as Tolya, and The Witcher’s Jack Wolfe as Wylan. Everyone looks pretty much how I pictured them when reading the books (though the guy who plays Wylan looks like a child, but IMDB assures me he’s 26).

-The reviews for How I Met Your Father with Hilary Duff are very not good.

-A Degrassi revival series has been ordered by HBO Max.

–Jean-Marc Vallée finished writing a film about Yoko Ono and John Lennon before his sudden death last month.

–Gugu Mbatha-Raw moves into a haunted house in the trailer for The Girl Before.

Julia Fox Chronicles Date with Kanye West

-The Julia Fox/Kanye West thing go so weird so fast. She gave Interview magazine basically a “date diary” (with photos!) about her second date with him, in which he surprised her with a new wardrobe. (The article seems to have been pulled but you can still view the cached version.) They’ve only known each since New Year’s Eve and many others have pointed out that he reportedly tried to control Kim Kardashian‘s wardrobe, but a new interview with her seems to indicate that she’s aware people are worried she’s being love bombed.

-Also, it wasn’t until that interview that I saw she once accused her ex-husband and the father of her baby of “f*cking his aunt.” What is happening?!?

–Kate Bosworth is dating Justin Long after announcing her split from her husband in August. When I first read that I thought, “Oh cute, they’ve reunited.” But apparently, they didn’t date in the 90s and I just imagined that?!

–The Weeknd‘s new album dropped and everyone is wondering if the song “Here We Go…Again”, (which includes the line “My new girl, she a movie star”) is about Angelina Jolie.

-This is an excellent interview with Andrew Garfield (who, in this moment, seems to be more beloved than he’s ever been). He talks about his willingness to play Spider-Man again (there’s lots of spoilers about how what happens in the latest movie could pave the way, so click only if you’ve seen No Way Home).

-In another interview, he says he and fellow Spider Man alum Tobey Maguire snuck into a movie theatre together to watch No Way Home. I love that they have a little Spidey-based bromance!

–Adam Scott posted a pic in his Party Down costume for the revival and it makes me so happy (and yet also sad that his character still appears to be a cater waiter).

–Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and more are paying tribute to Sidney Poitier, who died at 94.

-It looks like Mary Cosby has quit the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion.

-Amazon’s The Boys will return June, and celebrated with a funny fake ad.

–Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello were spotted together in Miami, but maybe they were just coparenting their dog?

–Rooney Mara will play Audrey Hepburn in a new biopic.

-I’m always hesitant to put too much stock in early reactions to new films while the reviews are still embargoed, but man, everyone is losing their minds over the new Scream.

-Insecure’s Yvonne Orji plays a matchmaker for single parents in the trailer for My Mom, Your Dad.

Jessica Simpson Buys Back Her Name

-Bloomberg’s latest cover story is about how Jessica Simpson’s billion-dollar fashion brand fell into the hands of the wrong company, and her expensive two-year battle to get it back that involved getting a loan, going to bankruptcy court, and considering borrowing against her mortgage.

–Denzel Washington says he doesn’t even remember clashing with Ellen Pompeo on the Grey’s Anatomy set, which is a delicious burn.

–Kayne West’s new girlfriend Julia Fox once did a Paper Magazine photoshoot with Pete Davidson, who is Kim Kardashian‘s new boyfriend. Conspiracy theories abound.

–Billie Eilish and Kanye West are reportedly slated to headline Coachella on Saturday and Sunday night, respectively.

–Nicolas Cage and his wife are expecting a baby.

-No disrespect to West Side Story’s Ariana Debose but she’s not even the lead of that movie and yet she’s hosting SNL next weekend. This seems to be more about Omnicron than her, but yay for Broadway fans.

-Yikes. Production on Star Trek: Picard has been shut down since Monday after more than 50 people(!) tested positive for covid.

–Jessica Chastain was on Ellen’s show and told a story about the time she threw a party and her grandmother sat on Bradley Cooper’s lap. “He looked horrified, actually. He had never met her. He didn’t know who she was. I saw it kinda happening in slow motion where I was like, ‘No!’ I just started going, ‘It’s my grandma! It’s my grandma!’ Then he was like, ‘Okay. Hi, Grandma.”

-I really liked this article on all the literary allusions and alliterations in The Lost Daughter.

–Jason Bateman and Laura Linney fight personal demons in the season 4 trailer of Ozark.

–Tom Holland says he once pitched Sony on an origin film in which he plays a young James Bond. “It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.”

-Sopranos star Michael Imperioli will lead season two of The White Lotus.

–Joyce Carol Oates is always a wild follow on Twitter, but yesterday was even more wild than usual.

–Britney Spears is back to posting nudes on Instagram and we all have to be ok with it because she’s allowed to do whatever the hell she wants. (Her earlier post about how excited she was to go to a restaurant and how she hadn’t had a glass of wine in 13 years kind of broke my heart.)

-Search Party returns tomorrow for its final season and I can’t wait.

-There was a fascinating Vulture article in the fall about how someone in the book industry kept stealing manuscripts, and no one knew who it was. They finally found him! The FBI arrested a young rights coordinator at a major publisher.

–Janet Jackson reflects on stardom and scrutiny in the trailer for her new doc.

–John Cusack stars in the Pursuit trailer. I can’t believe Emile Hirsch is still allowed to be cast in things…
