Kristen Stewart Learns To Embrace the Buzz

–Kristen Stewart covers EW’s fall movie issue and talks about the growing Oscar buzz surrounding her (“You want to win, we’re all animals. Artists want to engage with the world and have larger conversations. Even though it doesn’t seem like I’m somebody who wants to be extremely famous, I still want this conversation to be expansive”) and being more choosy (“I used to be really intentionally the opposite of precious in terms of choosing projects. -Speaking of new music, Mitski is back!

–Drew Barrymore weighed in on the fight between Lucy Liu and Bill Murray on the set of the 2000 movie Charlie’s Angels. “What really happened was Bill was just in a—you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes, and he just came in in a bad mood. And what you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance. She literally said, ‘I do not accept that kind of behavior from you.’ And we all supported her and backed her up and we moved forward.”

-HBO revealed that the new Sex and the City sequel series will premiere in Dec.

-The creator of Squid Game is open to a second season, but it would require a lot of time and someone other than him doing all the writing.

-An LA Law sequel starring Blair Underwood has been ordered by ABC, with more original cast members expected to return.

-Aw man, I don’t watch The Resident but it sucks for fans when a main actor leaves a show without being given a proper goodbye and they have to use a clips montage.

-Judging by this new clip, it looks like Succession’s third season will pick up moments after the season 2 finale, with Kendall dealing with the aftermath of his bombshell press conference. (Karolina‘s expression when she says “Ok” to Cousin Greg is priceless.)

-Also, the reviews for the new season are glowing.

–John Cena is the butt of all the jokes in first clip from HBO Max’s Peacemaker series.

-Here’s the first teaser for the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, that’s due next year. There’s a weird lack of dragons in this clip.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Stunning Tiffany Campaign

–Beyoncé and Jay-Z are starring in a new Tiffany campaign featuring a never-before-seen Basquiat painting, as well as the iconic yellow diamond, which has only been worn by 4 women.

-In a joint Vanity Fair interview with Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen commented on Scarlett Johansson’s fight against Disney. “I think she’s so tough and literally when I read that I was like, ‘Good for you, Scarlett.’ ” So far, the only  other Marvel actor to publicly comment on the lawsuit is Dave Bautista, who tweeted, “Told em they should’ve made a #Drax movie but noooooo!”

–Drake and Kanye West‘s feud reignited over the weekend. Drake appeared to take a shot at West in his verse on the Trippie Redd song “Betrayal” and West then shared a screenshot of a text message he sent to a thread with eight people on it (including Drake, presumably) that showed a photo of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker with the message “I live for this. I’ve been f–ked with by nerd ass jock n—as like you my whole life. You will never recover. I promise you.” And then West posted a Google Maps screenshot of what appeared to be Drake’s home address in Toronto.

–Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been praised for their efforts to help evacuate the people of Afghanistan.

–Elliot Page accepted his Outfest’s Achievement Award virtually and talked about the importance of representation. “I don’t know if I would have made it through the moments of isolation and loneliness and shame and self-hatred that was so extreme and powerful and all-encompassing that you could hardly see out of it. And then, you know, at 15, when you are flipping through the channels and you stumble on ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ and the dialogue in that film, and scenes in that film just transform your life.”

–Sandra Oh says she’s excited to see what Elliot Page is going to do next. “I have done so many movies with him.”

-I had no idea that Oh’s new Netflix show The Chair was created by actress Amanda Peet.

–Jesse Metcalfe is revealing why he chose to leave Chesapeake Shores. “Getting to know a new showrunner and create a working relationship with a new person was not necessarily something I wanted to do…I didn’t have any conversations with our new showrunner, Phoef Sutton. We took a lunch well before the pandemic. Then the pandemic hit and Phoef and his writing team had a long time to craft season 5, but unfortunately I never heard from anybody on the production side and so I was given the [scripts for the] first couple of episodes. That creative relationship was not really established this time around.” This seems to be asking a lot of a Hallmark show but ok.

–Taylor Swift joined TikTok with a video recreating looks from past albums – and an announcement that her version of Red will be released on vinyl Nov 19.

-In a new interview, Molly Shannon (who is coming off The White Lotus and stars in the new season of The Other Two) talks about the tragic childhood loss that has shaped her life. She reveals her mother, younger sister and cousin died in a car accident when she was 4. Her father, who had been driving under the influence, survived but was horribly injured.

-The trailer for Kacey Musgraves‘ upcoming album and film pays homage to Romeo + Juliet, and offers a glimpse of Euguene Levy‘s cameo. She also dropped a new single.

-Speaking of new music, Olivia Rodrigo released a video for “Brutal.”

-I loved this interview with Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein. He talks about how a classic Dickensian villain helped shape brooding hero Roy Kent, and why the show isn’t as light and fluffy as people make it out to be.

-HBO made some announcements today, including that Insecure, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Succession will all return in October.

–Barry Jenkins and Dan Levy tweeted out their support to a Toronto restaurant that’s being targeted but dumb anti-v**xers.

-The Toronto Film Festival is requiring all attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to attend. I still haven’t figured out if all my screenings with be virtual or if I’ll do a few in-person, but this is comforting.

-The reviews for Shang-Chi are glowing.

-William Miller’s fictional think piece about Stillwater from Almost Famous is now online.

–Mayim Bialik will take over hosting Jeopardy until the dust settles. She’s scheduled to tape three weeks of episodes when production resumes this week.

-This is a very smart piece on what happened with Jeopardy and what it says about the industry. “There are countless relatively anonymous producers across Hollywood who probably know that if Richards’ situation is about to define the new standard for decency in Hollywood, in terms of what is and what isn’t acceptable, they’re going to be in trouble as well.”

-A feature film focusing on Jurnee Smollett‘s Birds of Prey character Black Canary is in early development for HBO Max, with Smollett’s Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green set to write the script.

-The trailer for season 2 of The Morning Show (a show that started really rocky but grew on me by the end of season 1) has dropped. Looks like Will Arnett has joined the cast — and Billy Crudup is still the best thing about the show ’cause he continues to just GO for it.

Mandy Moore Isn’t Impressed By Ryan Adams’ Apology

-The best thing about Mandy Moore interviews is that her face is so expressive, you know exactly what she’s really thinking. On the Today Show she was asked about ex-husband Ryan Adams‘ new apology more than a year after he was accused of sexual misconduct by several women — and she very politely makes it clear that she has no time for his performative bs. “I find it curious that someone would make a public apology but not do it privately.”

–Kanye West may have announced that he’s running for president, but it’s too late for him to register in some states.

-Also, his Yeezy company received more than $2 million through the Paycheck Protection Program, the Small Business Administration disclosed today.

–Kendall and Kylie Jenner are denying reports that their fashion brand had failed to pay factory workers in Bangladesh during the pandemic.

-At this point, whenever a new celeb profile written by E. Alex Jung comes out, it’s an immediate ‘drop everything and read it’ moment, and his latest on Michaela Coel is no exception. It includes lots of  damning insights on how Hollywood operates, including the fact that she rejected Netflix’s $1M offer for I May Destroy You because she had to negotiate to retain just 0.5% of the copyright. It also reveals that Coel was involved with virtually every aspect of her first show, Chewing Gum – from the writing to the music to the costumes to postproduction – but when she asked to be made an executive producer, she was told no.

-Speaking of today’s must-read New Yorker articles, this deep-dive into Quibi is outstanding.  Tidbits include the CEO struggling to come up with a TV show she likes (“I’m not sure I’d classified myself as an entertainment enthusiast”), to a survey with 70% of respondents assuming it’s a food delivery app, to reports of Jeffrey Katzenberg running “his hand along the hoods of employees’ cars upon arriving at the studio, checking to see who had gotten there only shortly before him.” There’s also this stunner: “When Gal Gadot came to the offices and delivered an impassioned speech about wanting to elevate the voices of girls and women, Katzenberg wondered aloud whether she might become the new Jane Fonda and do a workout series for Quibi. (“Apparently, her face fell,” says a person briefed on the meeting.)”

-The 100 star Bob Morley‘s ex posted on Twitter that he was verbally and emotionally abusive, and implied that he cheated on her with his costar/now-wife Eliza Taylor. Some of their 100 costars liked his ex’s tweet.

-In less messy CW news, Riverdale’s KJ Apa took to TikTok to show off his…um…dancing?

-The CW doesn’t cancel anything, so it’s a big deal that they cancelled Katy Keene.

-The latest round of Actors on Actors interviews include Ramy Youssef and Tessa Thompson, and Dan Levy and Kieran Culkin.

–Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest seems to have rattled Prince Andrew’s cage.

-Never Have I Ever has been renewed for season 2 at Netflix. It feels like 900 years since I watched this but it was only a few weeks ago and I found it delightful.

–JK Rowling just won’t stop until she ruins her entire career and legacy, huh? In her latest terrible Twitter thread, she called transgender hormone therapy a “new kind of conversion therapy for young gay people.”

-Who else is over Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas‘ performative laughter on their pap walks? I mean, no one is that funny.

–Brie Larson has a new Youtube channel and the bros are handing it as well as you’d expect.

–Kacey Musgraves snuck in her divorce announcement late Friday afternoon on a long weekend.

-Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey and Avengers’ Clark Gregg are divorcing after 19 years together.

–Harry Styles recorded a Sleep Story for the Calm app. I had a two-week stretch where I couldn’t fall asleep unless I was listening to Matthew McConaughey’s story, so I get it.

-Did you watch Hamilton this weekend? It sent me down a rabbit hole of Ham2Ham videos. This one of the three actors who played King George performing as the Schuyler Sisters is my fave.

-I’m surprisingly intrigued by the trailer for Seth Rogen’s American Pickle.

-Was the first Kissing Booth movie terrible? Yes. Am I going to watch the second one the weekend it drops? Damn skippy!
