BAFTAs’ Best and Worst Dressed

The BAFTAs (which are Britain’s version of the Oscars) took place on Sunday, and the A-listers ignored the snowy weather to bring the drama on the red carpet. Check out my picks for the night’s best and worst looks:

Best Dressed:

Jessica-Chastain-BAFTAsI’m so glad that Jessica Chastain finally (FINALLY!) pulled it together. Previously this red carpet season, she’s had issues with either the colour or the fit, but this time she gets it all right in a royal blue, one-shouldered Roland Mouret dress.

Marion-Cotillard-BAFTAsI’m not sure I’d like this on anyone else, but Marion Cotillard makes this yellow couture dress from Raf Simons’s most recent Dior collection work. I don’t even mind the sheer panel at the thigh — much.  ——>

Sarah-Jessica-Parker-BAFTAsSarah Jessica Parker was a last-minute addition to the BAFTAs, replacing Meryl Streep as the presenter for the Leading Actor award. She opts for an unconventional but stunning Elie Saab jumpsuit.

Jennifer-Lawrence-BAFTAsI really loved Jennifer Lawrence‘s look when she first stepped onto the red carpet. I wasn’t as in love with the outfit after she ditched the wool coat to show off her sequin-embellished strapless Dior gown, but she still looks great. ——>

Gemma_Arterton-BAFTAsIt’s been a rough few days for Gemma Arterton. She’s reportedly split from her husband, and can currently be seen in the critically reviled Hansel and Gretel. But you could never tell by looking at her. I dig this nude and black Celia Kritharioti gown.

Honourable mentions go to Sarah Silverman (who was surprisingly polished in a Rafael Cennamo dress) and Helen Mirren (who rocked pink hair).

Worst Dressed:

Jennifer-Garner-BAFTAsThis might be the worst showing we’ve ever seen from Jennifer Garner — and that’s saying something! Her husband may have scored big at the BAFTAs, but she loses huge in a frumpy Roland Mouret dress.

Juno-Temple-BAFTAsI really like Juno Temple and keep waiting for her to hit it big. But that’s never going to happen if she keeps wearing ill-fitting, unremarkable outfits.

Amy-Adams-BAFTAsI usually love Amy Adams, but she’s a total mess in this Elie Saab Couture gown, which looks like it was plucked from a pile of discarded figure skating costumes.
<——-

thandie-newton-BAFTAsThandie Newton also opts for black lace with similarly disappointing results. She’s pairs her Louis Vuitton dress with terrible hair. ——>

Anne-Hathaways-BAFTAsI don’t hate this Anne Hathaway dress. I don’t love it. I don’t anything it. It’s just so…meh. The only thing remarkable about her t-shirt cut black Burberry number is that it definitively shoots down those pregnancy rumours.

Dishonourable mentions: Les Mis’ Samantha Barks should be using this opportunity to break out, not bore us in a basic black dress and horrible hair. Alice Eve follows Amy Adams’ lead and goes the figure skater route. And who else feels like George Clooney and Ben Affleck should have switched coats?
