Halle Berry Shows Off Killer Abs

–Halle Berry is 53 and she’s bragging about having abs for the first time, which I’m going to think about every time I feel like bailing on the gym.

-Meanwhile, Chadwick Boseman suggested Scorsese’s timing of his comments is suspect. “You’ve got to think about when he’s saying it. He’s saying it when he’s possibly campaigning for an award. He’s saying it at a time when he’s making a Netflix movie, so that’s how eyes get on his film, and it’s not going to be in the cinemas—it’s not going to be seen the best way.”

-NPR’s Linda Holmes has assembled a guide to more than 60 new holiday movies coming to TV this season. She’s doing god’s work.

–Beanie Feldstein‘s comedy How to Build a Girl (which I really liked at TIFF) was bought by IFC.

-10 days after AppleTV Plus launched, the head of scripted programming is leaving. Peak streaming is going fine, guys.

-Meanwhile, Disney+ launches tomorrow, and no one seems to know what to do. (I’m sure millions of people downloading an app and logging in for the first time all at once will go incredibly smoothly.)

-The order of the rankings on these types of lists always bug me, but overall The AV Club’s compilation of the 100 best shows of the 2010s is pretty spot on.

-Have you read Daisy Jones & the Six yet? Get on it before Amazon’s adapted series comes out.

-I love that Blumhouse is doing so well, but man all of their movie trailers give me the scares. Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, Michael Peña, and Portia Doubleday star in Fantasy Island.

Aubrey Plaza Ignored Chris Pratt’s Advice

-While I hate the granny panty/diaper they put her in on the cover, Aubrey Plaza looks adorable in the inner pages of Cosmo. (This REDValentino dress is my fave.) In the interview, she talks about advice she got from her Parks and Rec costars (“Chris Pratt used to tell me when he would give me advice: ‘The separation is in the preparation.’ He’s one of those people who’s always very prepared. I was kind of the opposite. Clearly, it worked out for him”), and creating her own projects (“I’m so used to relying on this patriarchal idea of waiting around for someone to say, ‘You’—some brilliant man. I still have that voice inside my head that wants that. But it’s like, I’m 34. I can do it myself…I’m sick of doing other people’s shit. I want to do my own shit”).

-Forbes estimates Rihanna is the richest woman in music with a reported net worth of $600 million thanks to her music and Fenty Beauty.

-The Jonas Brothers have a new documentary, where they talk about their purity ring past. Joe says of the virginity symbols: “That was not who we were. It was just something that we did when we were young kids but we wore the rings through the first bit of the band starting to explode, at that point it was already too late because it was in the media.”

–Lady Rose Cholmondeley (aka the woman at the centre of all those Prince William rumours) attended the State Banquet last night, but while her husband got to walk in with the procession that included the Queen, the Trumps, etc. she did not.

–Christoph Waltz and Wallace Shawn have joined the cast of the next Woody Allen film, and as much as I hate cancel culture we might need to evoke it now for these two. (Allen’s already long cancelled, obvs.)

-Who says spoilers are harmful? After the end of James Holzhauer‘s winning streak was leaked, last night’s Jeopardy was the most watched episode in 14 years.

–Jon Hamm is incredibly charming in this interview clip with David Tennant. His little smirk at the camera after his says “always add an extra 1/2 inch.” 🤣

-The season of appreciating Keanu Reeves continues. I hope it never ends!

–Busy Philipps testified today in front of the House Judiciary Committee about abortion rights. “It is my body. Not the state’s.”

-The first trailer for Luce teases a mind-bending psychological thriller starring Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer and Tim Roth.

Is Emma Roberts Dating Garrett Hedlund?

–Emma Roberts and Evan Peters have reportedly called off their engagement — and she’s been spotted looking cozy with Garrett Hedlund.

–Pete Davidson joined Kate Beckinsale and her family on the anniversary of her dad’s death. (Sidenote: I’ve been staring at this photo of them for the last five minutes. I just don’t get it.)

-According to Us Weekly, Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman haven’t quite wrapped their heads around the fact that they might actually end up going to prison.

-When Sophie Turner realized she was on the Jumboton at MSG, she chugged a glass of red wine. Which is both gross and awesome.

-Five years after it first aired Andy Daly revisits the pancakes episode of Review, which might be my favourite half-hour of television ever.

-The Stranger Things season 3 trailer is here. The bit with Steve geeking out with imaginary lightsabers with Dustin in front of the hot girl warmed my heart.

–Jordan Peele hid three Corey Feldman Easter eggs in Us.

-Bill & Ted 3 is finally, officially happening. I don’t know how Keanu Reeves is making this haircut work, but he really is.

–Mindy Kaling just got a straight-to-series Netflix comedy inspired by her childhood.

–Ricky Gervais‘ new Netflix show After Life, about a grieving widower whose suicide attempt is interrupted by a dog, is getting rave reviews.

-Speaking of rave reviews, critics are digging Jann Arden’s six-part series, which debuts tonight.

-Today Disney closed their $71 billion acquisition of Fox entertainment business, one of the biggest media consolidations in Hollywood history. It brings nearly all Marvel heroes and villains under one owner, with the Fox-owned X-Men and Deadpool now in the Disney-controlled MCU. (It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll be able to keep the Deadpool movies profane despite Disney’s squeaky clean rep.) On the TV side, Disney now has a massive TV studio with A-list showrunners like Seth MacFarlane, Lee Daniels and Kurt Sutter.  They also acquired Fox’s 30% stake of Hulu, which now gives Disney a controlling interest of 60%.

-Here’s the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. People are going crazy for it, but I’m not sold yet.

-Also, this video on the Easter eggs you may have missed in the film’s poster made me laugh a lot.

-Here’s the first trailer for Lucy in the Sky, starring Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Zazie Beetz and Dan Stevens. It’s produced by Reese Witherspoon and is the directorial debut of Legion/Fargo creator Noah Hawley.  So yeah, I’m in.
