James Gunn Keeps Talking about Martin Scorsese

–James Gunn is walking back his comments about Martin Scorsese. Film Twitter remains exhausting.

-As someone whose water was cut off today because of main repairs in my ‘hood, I’m desperate for a shower. It’s making me even more confused by all these celebrities proclaiming they don’t need them. The latest is Jake Gyllenhaal: “More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times…But I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.” Stars know they don’t actually have to disclose everything, right?!?

–Kim Kardashian and all 4 kids came out to support Kanye West during his Donda listening party. Meanwhile, attendees were offered the Pfizer vaccine.

-According to those at the listening party, the new album has lots of references to the end of his marriage.

–Joel Kinnaman was probably planning to celebrate the glowing reviews of The Suicide Squad, but instead the actor has filed a restraining order against his ex-hook up, model Bella Davis, who he alleges is trying to extort him by threatening to tell the media they had non-consensual sex. He claims he recorded a phone conversation in which she admits to lying.

-This is an interesting thought experiment. The days of TV shows getting renewed for 10+ seasons are certainly behind us, so what current broadcast show will be the LAST to ever hit that milestone?

–Brendan Hunt (who plays Coach Beard) says the first three episodes of this season’s Ted Lasso were meant to be watched together.

–Dave Grohl & The Foo Fighters trolled the Westboro Baptist Church protesters in Kansas by performing disco on the back of a truck.

-Is Britney Spears‘ dad trying to get her under another psychiatric hold? In new court documents, Jamie alleges that her current conservator Jodi Montgomery called him last month to say that she is concerned about his daughter’s behavior and mental health and believes she might need to be placed under a 5150 psychiatric hold. In response, her attorney told Variety: “Ms. Montgomery does have concerns about Ms. Spears’ recent behavior and overall mental health… Due to medical privacy, Ms. Montgomery cannot go into those concerns with any further detail except to say that having her father Jamie Spears continuing to serve as her Conservator instead of a neutral professional fiduciary is having a serious impact on Ms. Spears’ mental health.” The statement added, “Ms. Montgomery implores Mr. Spears to stop the attacks. It does no good; it only does harm. We all need to focus on one thing, and one thing only — the health, well-being and best interests of Britney Spears.”

-Meanwhile, Britney is very excited about her new iPad.

–Jennifer Aniston has defended her comments about removing anti-vaxxers from her weekly routine, saying it’s driven by a desire to protect other unvaccinated people. “We have to care about more than just ourselves.”

–Luis Guzmán will play Gomez Addams in the Wednesday series at Netflix, which is pretty fantastic casting.

–Kathy Griffin is home from the hospital after having half of her lung removed in her battle with cancer.

-Oh god. Multiple women sued The Price Is Right during Mike Richards’ tenure as executive producer, and their stories paint an unsavory picture of Alex Trebek’s presumptive successor.

–Diane Keaton posted a tribute to “good men” she’s worked with — and inexplicably included Mel Gibson. Oh honey, no.

-Italian fashion brand Liu Jo filed a lawsuit against Kendall Jenner, alleging she bailed on a million-dollar photoshoot last year.

–Sandra Oh‘s new Netflix show The Chair is getting good reviews. She plays an English professor whose promotion becomes a kind of curse.

-Hollywood continues to cling to IP that feels way past its prime. Yesterday was the South Park megadeal, and now comes news that the Hunger Games prequel is going ahead.

–Elle Fanning chooses choking on chicken over sex in the season two trailer for The Great, which also features a brief glimpse of Gillian Anderson.

-Here’s the first trailer for Hulu’s Dopesick series, which follows how one company triggered the worst drug epidemic in American history by hooking millions on opioids. It stars Michael Keaton, Kaitlyn Dever, Rosario Dawson and Peter Sarsgaard.

 

Kristen Stewart Goes Glam Charlie’s Angels Trailer

-The first Charlie’s Angels trailer actually looks like a blast. (I just listened to the I Hate It But I Love It episode about the last Charlie’s Angels movie and realized how gross it could be, so I’m comforted by the fact that these girls say “Hello, Charlie” in a very straight-forward, non-flirty way.)

-In his new Vanity Fair cover story, Idris Elba talks about being disheartened by the reaction to rumours he’d take on Bond, and taking a role in the adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats (“I’m not a ‘singer.’ I’ve made music with singing. I’m musical…I’m an actor. I’ve never done it before, so I thought, ‘Why not?'”)

–Jake Gyllenhaal stanning for Sean Paul is the best thing you’ll see on the internet today.

-Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness tried to tame David Letterman‘s wild beard.

–Kim Kardashian responded to the backlash against naming her shapewear line Kimono (and trying to trademark the term) in a statement that uses lots of words like “inclusion” and “diversity” but doesn’t really seem to recognize the cultural appropriation or apologize for anything.

-It’s been long enough that I can assume you’ve all watched season 2 of Fleabag, right? (If you haven’t, get on it! It’s only six 22-minute episodes, so you can crank it out in a night!) I’ve watched Kristin Scott Thomas’ monologue on how women are born with pain built in multiple times.  I love this interview with Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on creating their chemistry, and this is probably the best article (of the many, many I read) about the show’s amazing use of the fourth wall.

–Paul Rudd is joining the cast of Jason Reitman‘s Ghostbusters 2020, which he announced in this cute video.

-Nearly four months after it was cancelled by Netflix, One Day At A Time was saved by cable channel Pop. The landmark deal will see season four air there first before airing on CBS later.

-Speaking of shows that air on Pop in the US, this is a lovely story on the impact Schitt’s Creek has had on Goodwood, Ont., where fans flock to see the sets and stars.

-Spider-Man: Far From Home is getting pretty good reviews.

-The man who accused Kevin Spacey of sexually assaulting him in a bar in 2016 has filed a civil lawsuit against the actor.

–Salma Hayek is in early talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals. At this point, they should just list the actors NOT rumoured to be in this movie.

–George and Amal Clooney continue to live their best lives.

-The stars of Legends of Tomorrow openly mocking the fact that the CW didn’t invite them to ComicCon is a mood.

-I liked this article about the pros and cons of bringing back our fave TV shows and characters.

–Joel Kinnaman plays a snitch caught between the mob and the FBI in the trailer for The Informer.

The Office’s Jim and Pam Reunite

-No, I’m not crying over this John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer reunion. You are!!

-It’s secret wedding day! Joel Kinnaman reveals he secretly wed his girlfriend Cleo Wattenstrom, while Chelsea Peretti and Jordan Peele say they eloped a while ago.

-Netflix just ordered another season of Wet Hot American Summer, which was met with a collective shrug emoji. I didn’t even finished the last season; I just watched a YouTube supercut of Josh Charles wearing multiple polo shirts and popping his collar, and I was all set.

–Jonathan the Hairdresser is back with Game Of Thrones recaps, which I enjoy more than the show itself.

-This Hamilton/Sweeney Todd mashup that the Hamilton cast did feels like it was made out of my head.

-A Sense 8 actor was booted from Season 2 after clashing with Wachowskis. It’s probably not a good sign that his costars are celebrating over the re-casting.

-Miley. Gurl. That’s not Jupiter.

-Watch Chris Hemsworth talk about Civil War while performing totally casual physical feats.

–Russell Crowe calls out Ryan Gosling and the “Hey Girl” meme in their latest couples therapy session for The Nice Guys.

-This is a great piece on how the official post-baby appearance became a celebrity requirement.

-Jesus. Jessica Alba‘s Honest Company is now responding to allegations about their organic baby food, saying “We are confident this lawsuit will be dismissed.”

–Julia Louis-Dreyfus wants you to know that Veep isn’t a parody.

–Melissa McCarthy says she got sentimental about returning to the Gilmore Girls set.

-I have two friends coming from out of town specifically so we call all watch the Absolutely Fabulous movie together. This trailer reassures me that we won’t be disappointed.
