NBC Fires Matt Lauer Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

-Just days after receiving a complaint on Monday, NBC fired the Today Show’s Matt Lauer early this morning. A source revealed to Page Six that Lauer allegedly “sexually assaulted” a female staffer during the Olympics this past summer in Rio. Multiple journalists had been digging into his behavior for months, and Variety dropped their big story about it this afternoon. It’s full of disgusting tidbits, including reports he once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present with a note about how he wanted to use it on her, summoned another female to his office and dropped his pants, and had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up.

-Everyone is wondering what Ann Curry is thinking today. (I’ll never forget a quote she had around the time she left the Today Show because of their “lack of chemistry”: “Chemistry, in television history, generally means the man does not want to work with the woman. It’s an excuse generally used by men in positions of power to say, ‘The woman doesn’t work.'”)

-Meanwhile, here are 12 notorious Matt Lauer stories.

-It took 19 long days since the initial Variety report broke, but Andrew Kreisberg has  finally been fired from Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, CW Seed’s Vixen and lost his overall deal with the studio. If they waited until the crossover ended last night before announcing it though, that’s gross.

-And now Geoffrey Rush is being accused of inappropriate behaviour? Goddamit.

-In a new interview, Ridley Scott talks about cutting Kevin Spacey from his film a month before its release. ‘Sometimes you need to lay down the law.’

-In happier news, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cover the new issue of People.

-There are some pretty great Actors on Actors clips that came out today from Variety, including Gal Gadot interviewing Kumail Nanjiani, and Jake Gyllenhaal interviewing Margot Robbie. (I weirdly love that Jake’s opening question is “do you use an electronic toothbrush?”)

-The X Files creator is responding to criticism about the last season. Well, I guess it’s probably a good that that they recognize it mostly sucked…

-As someone who’s already seen Call Me By Your Name, the fact that they had to digitally remove Armie Hammer‘s balls from various scenes doesn’t surprise me. Those shorts were SHORT.

-Speaking of Call Me By Your Name, this profile on Timothée Chalamet is delightful.  I like that he’s a self-admitted Frank Ocean superfan.

-Speaking of superfans, a starstruck Keanu Reeves met his hero Sonny Chiba on Japanese TV and they fangirled all  over each other.

Nicki Minaj and Jesse Williams star in a new H&M mini-holiday movie and it’s better than anything I’ve watched on the Hallmark Channel all year.

Jessie Williams is everywhere! He’ll also star in Demi Lovato’s new music video, which drops on Friday.

Jay-Z sat down with The New York Times for a discussion on race, rap, politics and marriage.

Aaron Sorkin revealed that he has standing offer from NBC to reboot The West Wing, which he considers on occasion. This seemed like a really bad idea — until he mentioned that he wants Sterling K Brown to play the president. DO IT!

-Yikes. It’s probably not a good sign that Bryan Fuller is no longer going to be American Gods’ showrunner.

-Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter wrote a novel and it’s getting surprisingly good reviews.

-The Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropped this morning. Here are all the Easter eggs.

Idris Elba Rules Out Marriage In New Interview

idris-elba-essence

-We’re blessed with so many Idris Elba covers this month! Here he is on the new cover of Essence and I’m dead. This is my ghost typing. Oh god, I just discovered the behind-the-scenes video. Yup, I am deceased.

Jesse Williams denies cheating rumors surrounding him and Minka Kelly in Jay-Z’s latest “Footnotes” video: “I was in a relationship 13 years, 13 real years, not five years, not seven years, 13 years and all of a sudden motherf–kers are writing think-pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship — like the most painful experience I’ve had in my life, like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart — that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute.”

-Meanwhile, in what can only be considered exceptionally poorly timing, news broke today that the newly single Jesse is now reportedly dating … drumroll please … Minka Kelly!

-Speaking of crazy bad timing, Ben Affleck and new girlfriend Lindsay Shookus were photographed looking happy yesterday — and then People ran a story about how Jennifer Garner confronted Shookus about an alleged affair with Affleck in 2015.

Shia LaBeouf shouts profanities at police in new arrest footage. He was reportedly arrested in a hotel lobby in the middle of the night for yelling at someone who refused to give him a smoke.

-The critics are not being kind to Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. THR says “The Razzies don’t need to wait until the end of the year to anoint a winner for 2017” while EW calls it “an epic mess.”

-Showtime is reportedly developing a sequel to The L Word.  There was a cast reunion in a recent issue of EW and I forgot how much I miss this show.

Guy Ritchie‘s live-action Aladdin can’t find its Aladdin. The studio is eyeing Naomi Scott or Tara Sutaria to play Jasmine, but can’t lock the deal until the male lead has been selected. I really, really hope it’s because Disney is looking for a diverse cast and not that they just put this story out there so that later they can be all “hey, we tried.”

Bryce Dallas Howard posted a cute photo of her and Chris Pratt finishing up on Jurassic World 2. It’s not clear what shoes she’s wearing, though.

-The cute guy from Younger is in an open relationship with a lesbian. Why not?

Gerard Butler should probably stop attempting an American accent. It’s not working.

Game of Thrones Trailer: Winter Is Here

-The new Game Of Thrones trailer for season 7 teases multiple battles and confirms that winter is finally here.

-After two high-risk pregnancies, Kim Kardashian is reportedly hiring a surrogate. I know nothing about how much surrogates cost, but doesn’t this seem like not a lot?

George Clooney is having a moment. The new dad just sold his Casamigos tequila brand to beverage giant Diageo – for one billion dollars!

Kate Beckinsale, 43, is dating 21-year-old actor Matt Rife. Get it, girl.

-Holy shit, this is messy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (of The Lego Movie and the 21 Jump Street) were ejected from the Hans Solo movie after clashing with LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy. To leave a project when there’s just three weeks of shooting left because of “creative differences?” Ron Howard is reportedly among the directors in talks to take over.

-There are a lot of new faces on The THR 100 (The Hollywood Reporter’s list of the most powerful people in entertainment), including Barry Jenkins, Reese Witherspoon and Patty Jenkins.

Amy Poehler and Jimmy Fallon played “Are You Smarter Than a Smart Girl?”  (Spoiler alert: they are not.)

Prince Harry revealed he suffered regular panic attacks after the death of his mother and recalled the emotional difficulty of walking behind his mother’s coffin. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

-If a show dumps six cast members, is it still the same show? NBC’s Taken is about to find out.

-Shocking report: diverse casts are bringing in serious box office cash.

-My Best Friend’s Wedding came out 20 years ago today! I still dig this movie — despite the fact that it’s based on people who make a marriage pact for if they’re still single by the time they’re 28(!). The best part about it is how the three people in the love triangle are basically monsters, and the movie never lets you forget it.

Damon Lindelof is developing a Watchmen TV series for HBO. After what he did with The Leftovers, I’m willing to give this a chance.
