Adele Gives Good Face

2 images of Adele: one in a red blazer, and another in a black dress

-I adore this 80s-ish photoshoot with Adele for The Face. In the interview, she talked about her ex-husband, Simon Konecki and why she was so drawn to him. “I was like, ‘I’d be a f**king damn fool to walk away from this man being the father of my child compared to any other man that I encountered before or after up until recently, phew! I would’ve regretted that, forever.”

-Meanwhile, she told Apple Music that she isn’t making music for TikTok. “I’d rather cater to people who are on my level in terms of the amount of time we’ve spent on Earth and the things we’ve been through.”

-It’s happening. Sources tell E! News that Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson are indeed dating after they were photographed holding hands in Palm Springs. “He makes her laugh the entire time they are together and she is completely enthralled by him.” (People are amused/scandalized that she’s wearing Yeezys in the photos.)

Jennifer Lawrence and her baby bump attended a screening of Don’t Look Up (though I’m much more focused on what Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill are wearing).

Sam Asghari attended the House of Gucci premiere (which is…huh) and talked about his plans with Britney Spears. “We’re getting ready for a wedding, baby!”

Simu Liu tries to keep the peace between Saweetie and Kyle Mooney in his SNL promo.

Blake Lively is promoting her new line of mixers — but it doesn’t sound like she’ll be enjoying them herself. “I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being a part of it.”

-In a new Hawkeye clip, Clint and Kate play with fire to take down the Tracksuit Mafia. Meanwhile, the NYT profiles Jeremy Renner, who somehow has two shows dropping at the same time: Hawkeye and Mayor of Kingstown.

-The Office’s Brian Baumgartner (who played Kevin) wrote a new book about the show, and in it John Krasinski talks about the only scene he pushed back on, which saw Jim make out with Pam’s replacement Cathy when Pam was on maternity leave. “That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down…I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, ‘I’m not going to shoot it.’ There is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back.”

-Speaking of The Office, Mindy Kaling was on Kelly Clarkson’s show and they tried her character Kelly Kapoor’s “disgusting” favourite cocktail.

-This is a really great read on the state of made-for-cable holiday movies.

Jonah Hill is set to play Jerry Garcia in a film about The Grateful Dead from Martin Scorsese.

-Discovery+ is planning a documentary on the tumultuous relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka are the latest to call for an investigation after tennis player Peng Shuai went missing after accusing a former top official of sexually assaulting her.

-Here’s an interesting interview with Jason Reitman, in which he talked for an hour about a lot of things that have besides the movie he was promoting.

-I’m bummed for John Cho that the reviews for Cowboy Beebop are not good.

Mariah Carey is back with another holiday event on Apple+, this one featuring Khalid, Kirk Franklin, Apple Music personality Zane Lowe and her twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Here’s the trailer.

Chloë Grace Moretz plays a pregnant woman warring against A.I. in the trailer for Hulu’s Mother/Android.

-Here’s the final trailer for Nightmare Alley with Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette and Bradley Cooper.

Meghan Markle Chats with “Auntie Ellen”

Meghan Markle went all in on her Ellen appearance. She was the episode’s only guest and spent the hour pranking people by doing squats and drinking from a baby bottle, talking about her kids’ Halloween costumes (“Archie was a dinosaur for like 5 minutes” and Lilibet “was a little skunk like Flower from Bambi”) and using the platform to advocate for paid family leave (“As a mom of two I will do everything that I can to make sure we can implement that for people”).

Tom Holland’s GQ profile makes me kind of sad. He just sounds so tired.

Pete Davidson spent his birthday with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner and they all wore matching outfits so that’s happening.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have split. They both posted the same statement on IG stories: “We’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever.” So I guess that blind about her on a plane talking about a breakup was legit.

-Rapper Young Dolph was shot and killed at a popular local cookie shop in Memphis, according to police.

-This is a great piece on Taylor Swift and why her most powerful weapon will always be how she plays with our knowledge of her past and her life as a text.

-She released the sad girl autumn version of “All Two Well” that she recorded at the Long Pond Studios. She’s smart to release all her singles before Adele drops her album tomorrow and dominates the charts.

-Here’s the trailer for season two of Emily In Paris. God, season one feels like a fever dream.

-Roku released a new trailer for Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas.

-The Wheel of Time reviews are not great. THR calls it “dangerously close to a parody of the genre at its most formulaic,” the Washington Post says it “wildly miscalculates what made its predecessor [Game of Thrones] so watchable” and Variety says “The result is a show that may well please Jordan’s core fandom from the first but which makes for a frustrating watch for viewers who care less about whether “The Wheel of Time” outdoes “Game of Thrones” for spectacle than about whether the show they’re watching is coherent and well-crafted on its own terms.”

-This is a lovely profile on Jamie Dornan, who says he would love to play a superhero, is studying Robert Pattinson’s career, and wishes his dad could have seen Belfast.

-Is there a chance Letitia Wright will get recast in Black Panther after her alleged anti-v*x status keeps creating potential shooting delays?

-Ghostbusters Afterlife is a weird one. Critics are getting pressed by how many fan service-y elements refer to the original, but personally I thought that it had little to do with its roots beyond surface-level nods. The first Ghostbusters was a raunchy comedy about a bunch of dirtbags who end up saving the world; this one feels like an 80s Spielberg movie with a bunch of heartwarming kids. I liked it well enough; it just didn’t feel like a Ghostbuster movie.

Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Carrie Coon stars in the trailer for The Gilded Age, from the creator of Downton Abbey. It was originally picked up for NBC and is now airing on HBO, which is quite the change.

-Here’s a a teaser for Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, which Jennifer Lawrence then explained to Vanity Fair.

Lily James and Sebastian Stan‘s epic transformations are finally unveiled in Hulu’s first Pam & Tommy trailer.

Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Maluma star in the trailer for Marry Me. This looks awful but marriage of convenience is one of my favourite tropes, followed closely by a normie falling for a celeb, so *shrug*.

Regina King Brings Back the Buzz

regina king wears a red dress on the cover of vanity fair

Regina King graces the October cover of Vanity Fair. I feel like she got robbed of lots of Oscar buzz last year because the awards circuit was so quiet, so I’m hoping she gets to make up for it with The Harder They Fall. (“It won’t be like One Night in Miami….” She pauses, and I hear tears in her voice. “We never got the opportunity to see our film with an audience. I’m grateful to be healthy. I’m grateful that all of our crew and cast are healthy. We got to be in so many different festivals…but we didn’t get a chance to share that, except through this,” she says, indicating the virtual realm. “That was disappointing. But everything is for a reason. I try not to question God’s will.”) Also, this photoshoot is awesome. That gold skirt!!

-In THR’s new cover storyBenedict Cumberbatch discusses staying in character as a meanie while shooting Netflix’s The Power of the Dog. “[Director Jane Campion] introduced me to the crew as Phil and said, ‘You’ll meet Benedict at the end. Benedict’s really nice. Phil is Phil.’ And it just gave me carte blanche to say, ‘No.’ To be Phil, really. To stand in his shoes.”

-Congrats to Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney, who are expecting their first child.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have arrived in Venice for the premiere of his new movie.

Jessica Chastain laughed off the hysteria surrounding Oscar Isaac‘s arm kiss. “We have all been locked in our houses for so long. When this video went viral, I was like, people just need to see people touch and hold each other.”

-Gossip Girl got renewed for season two, which is genuinely surprising to me. I felt like the buzz (and any critical admiration) fell off a cliff after the first few episodes.

-The Met Gala is Monday night and there’s still rumours about the guest list. One star who won’t be attending: Zendaya.

-Netflix will be bringing a Bridgerton fan experience to select cities next year. I want it!

-The is an interesting look at how the depiction of suicide on TV is changing.

Rebel Wilson and some of her Pitch Perfect costars reunited to celebrate her birthday.

-TIFF starts today! Here are my picks for the 10 buzziest films, most of which are hitting theatres or streaming very soon.

Keira Knightley’s dark holiday film, which I’m seeing next week, has already sold at the festival.

-I’m not going to be able to watch any TV for the next week, but it feels like everything is debuting, including Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s HBO show Scenes from a Marriage, FX’s long-awaited Y: The Last Man, and the VMAs.

-Speaking of the VMAs, Nicky Minaj just pulled out.

-Aw man. Phoebe Waller-Bridge has left the Mr & Mrs Smith project she was going to do with Donald Glover for Amazon.

-Netflix must have been more impressed with Addison Rae’s performance in He’s All That than critics were; they just signed her to a multi-movie deal.

-Watch Demi Lovato and friends search for UFOs in the trailer for Peacocks’ Unidentified.

-The Princess Diana content keeps flooding in. Netflix released the first trailer for Diana: The Musical, which will premiere in October ahead of the show’s return to Broadway.

Jason Sudeikis is doing a Ted Lasso-y accent in the South of Heaven trailer while playing a very non-Ted Lasso character, and it’s breaking my brain.

-The Matrix Resurrections dropped its first trailer early Thursday morning. I have no idea what’s happening in it but I’m in!
